  1. I've thought a lot about this, and I've flipped around on both sides. Ultimately, however, it comes to certainty.

Right now, Howard is a certainty. He's been a stud on a garbage offense. He may not perfectly fit into Nagy's system, but his status as a certainty is undeniable.

Similarly, Landry to be a certainty. Conversely, he's a slot WR. He'll never be the #1 who scares opposing defenses. It's pretty safe to assume he'll fit into Nagy's offense, but it's not 100%. Then there is the additional worry that he'll want a massive contract, one in the top-ten of WRs. He is not worthy of a top-ten contract.

Ultimately, Howard is better at RB than Landry is at WR, but mostly because Landry is a slot. The Bears shouldn't fill a hole by creating a hole at RB. In a draft that is deep at RB and super-deep at WR, it doesn't make a ton of sense to create a hole at RB where one is not needed. It's smarter to just draft a WR. Ideally, trade down and draft two.

I agree with you. I think I'd much rather sign Albert Wilson who know for a fact fits the offense. Howard will do just fine in the offense and keeps our 2 headed monster at the position. Signing Wilson wont break the bank the either and won't cost us valuable draft picks

  2. It’s being reported by Moon Mullin that the Bears would trade Jordan Howard and the #8 overall pick for Jarvis Landry, the #11 pick and a 3rd rounder.

I actually like this. Howard doesn’t fit our new offensive scheme as he’s a terrible pass catcher. It’d also be nice to get a 3rd round pick.

The downside is we’d need to sign Landry to a long term contract extension as he’s been tagged. I’m also not thrilled about dropping from 8 to 11.

But this would take care of our most pressing need.

In the same sense it creates a need IMO. I love Cohen but I don't envision him as an every down back though

  3. I said I'd draft him at #8 and then trade Howard. The main reason is not just his running skills, it is his ability as a receiver and how important that is for the type of offense we're going to be running. Between Cohen (when lined up as slot WR) and Barkley you have big play potential likely moving to opposite sides of the field. Keep Shaheen running the middle seams and LB and Safeties have some choices to make.

We should get at least a 4th rd pick for Howard but maybe a 3rd, or we package him with a 4th Rd pick to move up.

And I saw a rumor yesterday that Landry will sign his tag which then makes him able to be traded and we are in discussions with dolphins about getting him and Howard would be involved. I'm assuming a pick would also be involved. My initial thoughts is I don't like it. But if we are able to get Barkley and Landry I can't say I would hate it. Alot would depend on what all we would have to give up.

  4. Per everyone.

Glennon saves $11.5 and Young saves $4.5, so another $16mil. Kyle Long now the oldest player on the team at 29. Now with the 3rd most cap space heading into free agency and 6th youngest team in the league.

Wheaton and Cooper should be next, another $9.5 in savings and would make us the 4th youngest team in the league.

Only 45 players on the roster I heard. Which is the fewest in the league

  5. He's retiring. Thanks for the solid play during a %^&8 up time. While you were not Sayers or Sweetness or Anderson, you were the linchpin of a crapy O. Good luck in your life now and thanks for the hi-lights.

Great guy and very good player for a long time with us. Wish him well

  6. Pace talked today ahead of the combine and he was very open. He said that he's already talked with Willie young and he will be released and said that Mike Glennon has something in his contract that prohibits the team from releasing him until the new league yr starts however he will be released as well

  7. I think the picks go:

CLE Darnold (GM was hired to draft their QB and can't bypass the first chance at doing so, not even to take one at #4)

NYG Rosen (I think Eli is nearly done even if they won't say it)

    IND Chubb

CLE Saquon Barkley (no better friend for a rookie QB)

DEN Josh Allen (Elway has to get a QB but I'm not sure Allen is it, I wouldn't be surprised if he trades up to take Rosen.

If he gets Cousins then we'll see Nelson go here)

    JETS Baker Mayfield

TB Marcus Davenport (there has to be one surprise ahead of us and pass rushing talent always moves up late)

CHI Quenton Nelson with Tremaine Edmunds as option #2

...and once again I don't see a safety, Fitzpatrick, going top 5, nor top 7.

You can probably forget about the idea of cousins to Denver. Denver had very little cap room

  8. yup

Then again if you REALLY believe in Ridley, you take him at 8 too, and if you dont, then hes no bargain at 15?

I have no problem taking him at 8 but so many believe he will be around near 20 so if I can trade back and still get him and pick up an extra pick I'm over the moon

  9. Ok, if you guys don't mind, please post how you believe the top 7 picks will fall out in the draft:

    1. CLE

    2. NYG

    3. IND

    4. CLE

    5. DEN

    6. NYJ

    7. TB

I used the following mock draft database to come up with some consensus top 6 picks and their probability.

Using the information from mocks from 10JAN until now, I came up with 660 data points (6x 110 mocks).

Here are the percentages by slot for the top 6:

    1. Darnold (52.7%)

    2. Rosen (50%)

    3. Chubb (60%)

    4. Fitzpatrick (41.8%)

    5. Mayfield (23.6%)

    6. Allen (20.9%)

This is the overall percentage on being selected in the top 6:

    1. Rosen 96.4%

    2. Darnold 94.5%

    3. Barkley 89.1%

    --------------------

    4. Chubb 76.4%

    5. Mayfield 61.8%

    6. Fitzpatrick 58.2%

    7. Allen 53.6%

    -----------------

    8. Nelson 30%

    9. Jackson 10%

    10. Smith 5.5%

So for me, I have to say the top 3 are absolute givens and should be all at 100%, and I assume these numbers will creep up as we get closer to the draft.

Just for simplicity's sake, the top 7 players will not be available to the Bears at #8:

    1. Rosen

    2. Darnold

    3. Barkley

    4. Chubb

    5. Mayfield

    6. Fitzpatrick

    7. Allen

To me, this sets up pretty good for the Bears, either 4x QB's go and Barkley, leaving us with one of Chubb, Fitzpatrick, or Nelson, or 1 of the QB's is not selected and sitting there when we pick (for a trade down).

If we miss out on those three, and keep the pick, what is left?

    Brown, OL

    Williams, OL

    Jackson, CB

    Smith, LB

    Edmunds, LB

    Ridley, WR

    Sutton, WR

If that's the consensus I'd love it. For us to grab Nelson would be perfect if 1 of the QBs fall id look too trade back into the 15-20 range and grab Ridley

  10. This just got a bit more interesting. Jacksonville just signed Bortles to a 3yr contract extension.

    http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap300000091...ar-54m-contract

Robinson reportedly does not like Bortles as his QB (too inaccurate). It is easy to find all sorts of reports on this:

    http://ftw.usatoday.com/2017/08/nfl-jaguar...-allen-robinson

The Bortles deal is at just $18mil/yr but it puts the team in a spot now where they are a playoff team with that defense and won't typically be drafting high enough for years to come in order to get one of the best QBs. The extension also does not appear to affect their cap space significantly although full details are yet to be released. It is clear they aren't going to spend big on a FA QB this year now.

What does Robinson think about playing with Bortles for what is likely 3 more seasons in the prime of his career? If Bortles stays the same inaccurate QB then he's looking at working with a rookie down the road. The Jags D is built to win now. No doubt the team will argue that with Robinson on board the offense/Bortles would be much improved and ready to compete in the playoffs. How will all this affect negotiations? Franchise tagging him, as is typical from a player's perspective, won't help matters and might put Robinson into a spot where he just takes the 1yr deal even more determined to leave in 2019. With limited cap space, tag-and-trade options could be in play for the front office but again we have a player coming off a serious injury. Will other teams risk draft picks along with the big contract?

I expect he'll get the franchise tag but this could easily be a situation that drags out into the summer.

The extension helps the team significantly. Bortles was already gtd $19M this yr and that was all on cap. The extension gives him an extra $7M gtd but lowers his 2018 cap hit from $19M down to just $10M. So from a team perspective and bortles it's great as they will want to see if he can take another step forward like he did this yr. And I think this move all but guarantees that Robinson will be retained by either the tag or long term.

  11. yes LOL and it's silly!

On the draft pick value chart, our #8 overall is worth 1400 value points.

Buffalo's #21 is worth 800 and their #22 is worth 780. That's a combined value of 1570, so they wouldn't be giving us their 3rd rounder, they'd already be overpaying by 170 points.

To put that into context, the 20th pick of the 3rd round is worth 170 points. So we'd owe THEM a 3rd rounder, not the other way around.

We dont have a 3rd this year, but both our 4th round picks together are worth 148 and our 6th is worth 18.6.

So if we traded with Buffalo, our first for their two firsts, we'd have to give up both 4th round picks and the 6th rounder to make it fair. And we'd still be coming out a bit ahead.

Another option would be our first and second for Buffalo's 2 firsts and their lower second.

    BEARS

    1-08 #8 overall 1400 points

    2-07 #39 overall 510 points

    total = 1910 points

    BUFFALO

    1-21 #21 overall 800 points

    1-22 #22 overall 780 points

    2-23 #55 overall 350 points

    total = 1920 points

Buffalo also has the 21st pick in the 2nd round as well, and maybe we could hold them up for that instead, but either way they'd have the #8 pick overall, and 2 picks in the second including our high 7th pick in the 2nd round.

They might make that trade for sure. I'm not sure we would. It all depends on who we have our eye on at #8 overall.

I'd make that trade but like you I'm not sure they would

  12. Tried another Buffalo trade down since it has been a few weeks since I mocked, but was surprised at how many former top players are falling.

    Your Picks:

Round 1 Pick 21 (BUF): Ridley, Calvin, WR, Alabama A+

Round 1 Pick 22 (BUF): Wynn, Isaiah, OG, Georgia B+

    Round 2 Pick 7: Key, Arden, DE/OLB, LSU B+

Round 3 Pick 32 (BUF): Meeks, Quenton, CB, Stanford A+

Round 4 Pick 5: Settle, Tim, DT, Virginia Tech A+

Round 4 Pick 15: Miller, Kolton, OT, UCLA A-

Round 5 Pick 8: Fumagalli, Troy, TE, Wisconsin A

Round 6 Pick 7: Tate, Auden, WR, Florida State A+

Round 7 Pick 6: Thomas, Roc, RB, Jacksonville State A+

Is this another where we give Buffalo #8 and they give us both 1sts and there 3rd?

  13. The scenario now is only by trading for him. We are not going to give up a 2nd round pick for a to expensive WR just because it's an upgrade. He will not be got for a fourth and we don't have a third.

Which I'm pretty sure is how I put it. I have no problem paying him but I'm not paying him and giving up draft picks. So unfortunately we will need to move on and just pray

  14. How many years in a row has someone said "let's see what their plan is before complaining," only to see the plan unfold and produce nothing? I'd say Bears fans have a right to question just about every personnel and coaching move until the front office proves us wrong. They've produced horribly.

I was ok with letting Sitton go however you are dead on about how often over the past 10 yrs we make a move and the front office either does nothing to fix the hole they just created or there plans goes up in flames. I think most of us know this roster has so many holes that is literally impossible to fix in 1 off-season. And personally I'm do sick of hearing about how Morgan will fix things when for starters he didn't play at all because of injuries and 2nd of all most experts believe he's nothing more than a nice rotational back up. Not some 10 yr starter

  15. I was never that interested in Landry. Is he better than who we put on the field last year? Absolutely, but not worth the money, and now draft pick, it will take to sign him. Let somebody else make the mistake.

He's light years better than anyone on this roster. He's very dependable and is always available. Your going to pay a premium for guys like that. Now I certainly wouldn't want to now because of the draft picks it would take. But if it was just money I would have been all for it. This roster is in such dire need st that position and it seriously needs a dependable Target. I'm so sick of trying to fill out the position with a bunch of #3 and #4s

  16. Trade down with Buffalo to 21 & 22 mandatory.

    ALABAMA

    1. Calvin Ridley, WR

    1. Rashaan Evans, ILB

    2. Anthony Averett, CB

    4. Da'Shawn Hand, 3-4DE

    4. Tony Brown, CB

    5. Robert Foster, WR

    6. Bradley Bozeman, C, Alabama

    7. Shaun Dion Hamilton, ILB

    OHIO STATE

    1. Denzel Ward, CB

    1. Billy Price, C

    2. Jamarco Jones, OT

    4. Sam Hubbard, DE

    4. Jerome Baker, OLB

    5. Tyquan Lewis, Edge

    6. Chris Worley, ILB

    7. JT Barrett, QB

Neither are perfect, but I actually would be pretty happy with either draft.

I'd take the Alabama one because I think getting Ridley in the 20s is a steal. And I really want a WR taken in the early rounds of this draft. I want someone who can grow long term with trubisky that is also a go to guy. This draft has good depth at role players but only a couple go to guys at that position

  17. I’m with you. I can’t help but think of the word ‘fools gold’ when I think of Fuller doing either a multi-year deal or getting Franchised. Of the time he’s been here he’s been equally bad as he’s been good. And the ‘good’ was mediocre at best.

Of the years he’s been here; he’s been ‘good’ for one or two, missed most of the other seasons and had a shitty attitude about playing on the team a few years back. I get why he did better last year and that had to do with his contract year. I’m just concerned if we commit he’ll be good only when it suits him. Is Franchising him the best option? Maybe. But I still don’t like it.

I definitely understand the reservations about signing him all. But I'm really concerned with letting him go getting nothing nothing back like with Jeffrey and completely whiffing in free agency once again. Scares me with starting completely over again just as we seemed to finally get somewhere with the secondary

  18. True. But if we’re looking at this year, why didn’t we keep Josh Sitton for 8 million? He was our best offfensive lineman.

In 4 years, Kyle Fuller’s had 8 interceptions and sat out a year because he wasn’t 100% healthy. Yes, he’s good in run support and had quite a few breakups . . . But there were several games where teams specifically targeted him because they were avoiding Amukamura.

Fourteen million for one year is a ton. And I don’t see how we can trust him long term.

1 of the reasons sitton is gone is because he's missed games every yr. Fuller was at least healthy this yr. There's Hope with him being young still. Whereas sitton is on wrong side of 30. Typically those guys don't magically heal
