    john Beck?

PFT reported today that Miami was getting ready to cut him, but then that they might be trying to trade him. Like most of you, I don't know a damn thing about Beck, but I see "2nd round draft pick . . . " that sounds one helluva a lot better then "undrafted free agent who looks good versus bad defense." I honestly can't see Miami just dumping him this quickly. That's horrible PR when you jettison a 2nd round pick in year two. IMO it's much easier for them to dump McCown. That being said, I think we'd have to trade for him. Not knowing a damn thing about him, I'd be happy as hell to get him for a 5th rounder (especially since we should be getting one for Griese.) But they are probably asking for at least a 4th. Either way, it seems like this is Rex's last year, which means we'll be continuing that elusive "franchise QB search." It's better to start it sooner then later.
  2. Agreed completely. Not to mention we have until at least September 1st to make a decision on whether or not to save a roster spot for Williams or IR him. Hopefully, at that point the Dr.'s should be able to better speculate about how successful the surgery was, how his recovery. In other words, Clayton doesn't know a damn thing. There's no way in hell we keep him on the roster just so he can practice. There's several fringe players who are healthy and could help this team but might not make it: Hanie, Hass, Toenia, Monk, Rod Wilson . . . just to name a few. Not to mention it looks like we're keeping 4 running backs which make the roster spots even tighter. There's no way in hell we keep Williams just for practice.
  3. I'm one who believes the Bear's do this to hide players, but I can't see us doing it here for two reasons: 1. If he's on the practice squad, he has to be good enough for another team to sign him to their 53 man roster. I can't see that happening. Maybe later when teams get desperate, but not now. So why not leave him on the practice squad? 2. We might need him. If Rex or Orton goes down, I want to have a legitimate #3 QB waiting in the wings. I have no idea if Hanie is that guy. If he's not, we need to bring in Simms or someone else. If he is, add him to the roster. Not to mention Hanie would have to agree to being placed on IR.
  4. I'm curious, because I don't know many people who do the auction drafts. Most people that I've know who've done auction vs. the standard pick draft, prefer the auction. Mainly because you control you're own destiny. If you believe Tom Brady's going to get it done again this year, you can spend half your $$$ or however much it costs to get him. I just think the auction's one helluva a lot of fun, and yet I've found few people who do it.
  5. Graham & Ward are absolute no-brainers. You'd be nuts not to keep those two for the cost. Plax; Why not wait and see if he's there in the 4th round? If he is, I'd grab him. He's great for finding the end-zone, but he just wrote a book, and I could really see the Giants slipping this season after their miraculous 2007. Jennings: IMO he sucks this year. He's had one good season. If you draft him I'd do it with the intention of trading him early. Roethlisburger: Solid pick at #7. Yet Jennings is the better value pick. Bulger: You'll be able to draft him very late, so why make him your keeper? You're correct: Stick with Graham, Ward, and Jennings. When in doubt, "Bargain shop."
  6. Thanks for posting that!!! I those videos were shut down? That being said, no wonder we're looking at Chris Simms. Granted, this is just a snippet of practice, but both QB's looked pretty bad: Orton: Underthrew Riddeau (although Brandon made on helluva a catch.) Then he throws an interception. In pre-season, Orton seems to be turning the ball over just as much as Rex. Rex: Sure our offensive line got owned, but why is Rex still hanging onto the ball? I don't want to see him getting sacked 5 times a game again this year. If we are serious about Simms, I honestly don't think it's so much for this year as next year. (although we'd have to sign him). We've had a quarterback competition and neither one looks consistently good. I'll predict that Rex is gone after this year, we draft a quarterback very high, we bring in a veteran (like Simms) and Orton sticks around for another QB competition. (Just for the record I hope like hell I'm wrong about that . . . I'd much rather see us have to use the franchise tag on Rex after he makes the pro-bowl)
  7. What this tells me is we're not happy with Rex or Kyle, which shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. After several weeks of competition, they've both looked mediocre. That's not exactly the results we were hoping for. When you have a quarterback competition and neither quarterback stands out . . . On Hanie: When will he help this team? Certainly not this year. Maybe next year??? I'm not sure where this love-fest for Hanie comes from. If he continues to look good in pre-season, I'll be happy as hell to jump on his band-wagon. Christ almighty, could we wait a few weeks before we annoit him the next Tony Romo? I seriously doubt we'd give up a 5th round pick and take on his 1.5 million $$$ salary. But I'm happy as hell we're looking at all options.
  8. That's EXACTLY what I was thinking NYC. I'm shocked at how many people are pissed that we'd look at a QB.
  9. Are you freaking kidding me??? Bernard Berrian just signed a deal that makes him one of the highest paid WR's EVER. That makes it just a flat out ignorant comment on Moose's part. Thanks for nothing stone hands. Tank made some crappy comments about Rex, and I seriously had to wonder, "Is that true?" But based on the Berrian deal, Moose is just retarded.
  10. I repeat: Who??? Which team? Most teams have 4 QB's on their roster right now. Which team will dump one or two players they've been working with since April for Hanie? Do me a favor: Go back and watch Orton in 2005, his rookie year. If you do you'll find that he doesn't wind-up nearly as much, his release is much quicker, and his footwork is better. Did these things happen from him playing Madden? The guy is improved. Or staff deserves some credit for that. What comment? So Hanie was 9 for 16 for 101 yards & a touchdown . . . against 3rd & 4th string defense. That's nice. I'm happy about that. That convinces me that if he has to play this year, he won't crap himself and roll over and play dead. I hope like hell he's the next Tony Romo. Do you REALLY think he's the next Tony Romo???
  11. IMO, injuries are often more random then anything else. Look how injured Rex was early on, and then he finished 2005 and didn't miss a game the entire 2006 season. Last year he was hurt towards the end, but I get the impression he could have came back much sooner, but we wanted to give Orton a shot. I'm optimistic Dusty can keep it together.
  12. Like I mentioned, I think it's a strong possibly that we'd still IR. It all depends on how he is developing. Oakley & Reed spent most of last year on the practice squad, so I doubt there's a burning desire for them around the NFL. I don't see how either of them have much of a future here with the players they have in front of them. One guy I hope we don't regret leaving open on the practice roster is Mark LeVoir. St. Louis seems to be pretty happy with him so far. Now that we are desperate for another tackle . . . Why is the height issue a big deal? I really don't understand that. As long as he shaped like a bowling ball and can move, it really shouldn't matter. I'm anxious as hell to see how he looks versus Seattle. If he continues to look good, that would solve a major problem for us. It's also always great to see guys you draft producing. On a side note, with Wolfe, Payne, McBride, Grahahm, Olsen, along with Beekman all producing, the 2006 drafts looking one helluva a lot better. Now we need production from Bazuin & Okwo. Maybe, but while he looks good, he's still behind Lloyd, Davis, Hester, and Booker. With Olsen working as a WR, Bennett going nowhere, and Bradley's potential, it's going ot be real tough for him to get a real chance. Who do you play him in favor of?
  13. Agreed Pix. Idonije is extremely valuable IMO. He's not great at anything, but he's good at a lot of things. You mentioned before we weren't going to use him on special teams since when we used him in the wedge, teams would always try to kick to him. But won't we still use him on ST's when we kick-off & punt? He's always been a stand-out in that capacity.
  14. I disagree. I'd expect a guy without the guaranteed money and no job security to rush himself back out of desperation to prove himself. When has a 1st round pick ever rushed himself back too soon? I can't remember any who have, but I do remember Cedric refusing to come back his rookie year after being cleared by doctors. He gave us the famous quote, "I've got my future to worry about." As long as he's cleared to play, let him rush himself back. If he gets reinjured, we shut him down. The injuries aren't bad overall. Metcalf should be back by week one, and Kreutz never misses games. So you're realistically looking at one player. Normally we keep 9 offensive lineman (counting Patrick Mannelly) and we de-activate one at game time. Williams would just be that one. When I was talking about bad injuries, I was thinking more of last year when we had multiple safeties, cornerbacks, and defensive tackles all injured. That makes the situation more desperate where you have to free up room so you can field a team. Overall, we're in great shape health-wise. I agree like hell with that. But IMO, even with Williams injured we still have an open roster spot. With Tait, Garza, Kreutz, Metcalf, & St. Clair as the 5 starters, I assume we'll keep Beekman since he was picked high, and Williams is the 7th. I view guys like Reed, Oakley, and Adams as expendable. So we have a spot open. If we signed a guard, we'd probably have to make Metcalf the back-up tackle, even though he's terrible. He has played their before. I do wonder if we're serious when we talk about how good Beekman's looked. That sounds like total BS to me.
  15. I'm ok with keeping him here. The only strength of our line so far has been the right side. By moving Tait you're screwing that up. That and we keep hearing how good St. Clair has looked at LT. Why switch them, especially when it appears that Williams will be back by mid-season. You mention we might be bringing someone in, do you have any idea who? We heard yesterday the Texans are no longer interested in Fred Miller. But I don't see Miller being any better then St. Clair.
  16. I was under the impression that since we've taken him off the PUP list, he is not eligible for the PUP list when the season starts. Is that correct or incorrect? Just wondering.
  17. I disagree. We have him signed for 5 years. Why would we rush him back for half the season? My guess is that we're saying, "We'll keep him on the 53 man roster, he'll be back!" as a PR move. We'll wait and see what happens. I think for the first couple weeks we can give up that roster spot. This would do two things: 1. Wait & see how Williams recovery is coming. By September 15th we ought to have a pretty good idea as to his progress and whether or not he'll be able to return. 2. Weeks 1 & 2 the injuries typically aren't that bad, so the roster spot is not as critical. Either way, We have almost a month until our first game. By then we might decide to IR him anyway.
  18. The Cowboys have Brad Johnson & Richard Bartel as their back-ups. So it comes down to whether or not they think Hanie would make a better #3 then Bartel (whoever the hell that is.) The Cowboys are another team probably looking to keep only 2 QB's on the 53 man roster. That being said, I agree that if he continues to play like this, we'll keep him on the 53 man roster. We didn't need Hass last season, but we thought he was good enough to save a spot for so no other team would get him. Personally I like the idea of making sure your #3 QB spot is solidified. As I mentioned before, I'm skeptical about him. But I'm anxious to see if he can continue to play well next week.

    never mind

It was something like that. I'd over-looked something obvious, making my post stupid & pointless (or at least more stupid and pointless then usual.) As far as I can tell it's impossible to delete your own post, just edit it.
  20. Huh??? Why? He hasn't even practiced, why would we start him. That being said, this is great news!!! Especially getting Dvoracek back. I'm kind of surprised we didn't decide to PUP Jones. This means were clearly going to be keeping 4 running-backs. I wonder if that makes it more likely for us to only keep 2 QBs.
  21. I can't praise them, but I do have to give them credit for developing Kyle Orton. Compared to how he looked his rookie year, Orton's made one helluva an improvement. Which team? Seriously. Can you name any team in the NFL that would rather have Caleb Hannie over it's current 3rd string QB? Would a team llike the Packers dump a guy like Matt Flynn, a guy they drafted in the 6th round and have spent time with all off-season, in favor of an undrafted rookie? I just don't see it. If we believe that strongly in Hanie, I believe we have to find a spot for him on the roster. But I'm confident that no team would be jumping on Hanie to put him on their 53 man roster.
  22. Isn't this love-fest for Hanie a bit premature? It's mind-boggling to me how much love this guy is getting after an ok quarter and a half versus a 3rd string defense. Some guy on the SCORE called yesterday demanding that Hanie get time with the first team and have a legitimate competition with Rex & Kyle. IMO, the same argument could be made for P.J. who I thought he looked pretty damn good. He appeared strong & powerful with good hands. Yet if he's so good, why does he keep getting cut by different teams? With Forte, AP, Wolfe, & Jones in front of him, Pope has a snowball's chance in hell of making the team. Yet nobody is demanding he gets more of a chance. Back when Orton was starting his rookie year, we wanted Rex. When Rex was starting last season we wanted Griese. Now we're booing Rex and wanting Orton. The phrase, "The grass is always greener" comes to mind. I'm not ripping Hanie, & I'm happy as hell that he appears to have the ability to be an ok #3. But I'm extremely skeptical.
  23. I think ideally we'd look to bring him in as a back-up, leaving St. Clair at the LT position. I'll be ignorantly optimistic for a second, and assume the Bears aren't lying to us when they say that Chris Williams will be back this season. Personally, I never thought Williams would be ready to go on week 1 anyway. I figured he'd either suck or be hurt, thus forcing us to rely on St. Clair. So this really doesn't surprise me. What does surprise me is the fact we've done nothing to upgrade the LG spot. It's flat out unbelievable IMO. Why are we looking at Miller and not Ruben Brown?
