Sure I'm speculating with Hanie not being NFL worthy, but what I think I know is: --Rex won't be back --JA wants to bring in competition for Kyle Orton, meaning Hanie's not in the mix. At best Hanie will our #3 QB with no real chance of seeing the field. Maybe I'm being overly pessimistic, but the Hanie situation reminds me a lot of the Mike Hass situation from last year.

The SCORE talked about this a ton today. Here's what I've gathered: 1. JA said competition. That means he's not talking about Donovan McNabb or even Matt Cassell. We pay big money, it's not a competition. 2. Whoever we bring in it's likely to be the equivalent of Rex vs. Kyle. In other words, not much of a competition. 3. Rex is gone and Caleb Hanie's not NFL worthy. That's what we've learned. Ultimately Angelo wants Kyle to stay away from the whiskey bottle, continue to improve, and not bitch about his contract. We'll either bring in an NFL cast-off at a bargain price, or draft someone, not in round one. That's it.

Good info NFO. A few things: Hester: What you said doesn't surprise me. The few times I saw them live, I thought Berrian looked much faster overall. Yet with Hester it was his unbelievable ability to accelerate that makes him great. Lloyd: Bear fans want him back because he's the 2nd best WR on the team and Orton seems comfortable with him. Who would we replace him with? Rashied Davis: IMO he's a GREAT back-up. He can play special teams, and he's a "gamer." He's back because we'll need him. Booker: Like you, I was optimistic. The speed being gone is one thing, but what about the hands??? Agreed he's gone. He'll probably sign with Carolina and have a huge season. Bennett: When I saw him in training camp he didn't look as good as Rashied Davis. My guess is that this is why he didn't see the field much. At best, he has the potential to be an ok #2. On signing Housh: Berrian signed for 6 years 43 million. Roy Williams signed a 5 year extension with Dallas worth 45 million. Since the FA WR market continues to be bare, my guess is that Housh gets much better then that. Do you really think he's worth paying that much? We regretted signing Moose, Dallas already regrets Williams . . . is it worth the risk? My guess is that we look to the draft to fix our WR problem. On a different note: When Turner came here he wanted WR's who could stretch the field. I wonder how much that had to do with Rex's arm strength. Since Orton's not great with the deep ball, do we look for more possession type receivers?

My problem is that routinely throughout the season we'd send a guy at the QB untouched, and he'd dump off a short pass to a guy who's wide open in space and run for 10 more yards. IMO our D-linemen can't be effective when either the coverage or scheme is awful. Either way, Babbich must go.

Bastards!!! I feel like crying. I really thought the Giants learned from last season's success and play balls-out this last game thumping the Vikings.
-
The way he's been playing, it's best to get him on the field as much as possible. He's the best FS we have available. We need him to have a big game in order to slow down Houston's passing game. Lovie just said that DM will still play the nickel, meaning Steltz is likely to move to SS. The way Houston throws the ball I look for us to be in the nickel a lot.
-
Ok, you lost me at that. I couldn't read any more. Chad Johnson??? Are you serious???
-
Agreed AZ. We're 9 & 6 and playing Houston. If we were presented that scenerio 4 months ago, it's that Houston sucks and 10 wins gets us in the playoffs. Successful teams pull wins out of their ass. We've done that lately.
-
Hell yes!!! Although I'm a little concerned he started pumping his fist with 40 yards to go . . . that's a bit premature.
-
I'm already sick of the nfl.com Internet feed.
-
Agreed 100%. If AP had sucked, we'd have to question it. But AP looked good. Does anyone remember that he finished the season as our #1 RB last year? And we finished the season strong? I never want to see AP as our #1 RB, but he's one helluva a #2. Most important, he's a complete back and a good blocker.
-
Agreed. Hopefully he'll snap out of it, but right now you're dead on.
-
Wouldn't we be better reducing his WR receiver duties? Today he had four catches for 42 yards. Last year when he was more limited at WR, he was more successful.
-
chicagosports.com said the same thing. High ankle sprain, one month. Better then busted.
-
I agree with Brown being washed up, but totally disagree with moving Peanut. Our secondary was torched today without him. Why would we make our #1 CB a safety? I'd much rather move one of the other guys.
-
Nope. Vasher, Tillman & Manning are all inactive, as per the SCORE. Christ we're screwed. I'm going & picking up Gus Ferrotte on my fantasy team and starting him this week.

The Bills traded DT John McCAargo to Indy for a 4th round pick--as per profootballtalk.com. This is significant since McCargo was the guy that Buffalo traded up with Chicago to get in 2006. The Bears gave up the 26th pick for the #42 & the #73 pick. We took Danieal Manning & Dusty Dvoracek. Buffalo would have been one helluva a lot better off standing pat and taking Dvoracek. Not to mention this trade gave us the flexibility to draft Devin Hester. 2006 was also the year that Bears fans were screaming for Angelo to try and trade up to draft Vernon Davis. So far Davis can't even succeed in a Mike Martz offense. I throw this up for 2 reasons: 1. Angelo made one helluva a trade. 2. It's rarely good to trade up.

I heard on ESPN radio the Cowboys gave up a 1st, 3rd, and 6th round pick in the 2009 draft AND they signed him to a deal through 2013, which I'm guessing is at least "Bernard Berrian money." I heard Berrian watched the Bears-Detroit game and said, "Damn that Roy Williams has bad hands!" Apparantly the Cowboys don't remember the Hershel Walker trade. Nine times out of 10, teams who make a big splash have it back-fire on them. See Redskins, Washington. Not to mention Minny hasn't lived up to their Super Bowl hype so far. So TO was pissed he wasn't getting the ball enough, and Roy Williams was pissed he wasn't getting the ball enough. Wow. What do you want to bet the Cowboys don't make the playoffs. The only thing that bothers me is that Detroit is getting a king's ransom for a guy who was going to walk after this season. They saved a ton of cap space, and I'm assuming that their new GM isn't retarded.
-
He's on steroids and he still sucked that bad??? Wow. How bad must he be without them? The good thing is that this opens up a roster spot for another defensive-back. This probably means that back-up guard (he's #72 and his name starts with a "B" . . . Beaman????") will be activated.

I thought this was funny from the Sport's Guy's article at http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story...=simmons/081003 "Which reminds me, here's my Dropsies All-Star Team through four weeks: Bernard Berrian and Andre Johnson (starting WRs); Daniel Graham (starting TE); everyone on Atlanta and Tennessee (backups); Ben Watson (injured reserve); and every fullback. Berrian has to be the MVP. I'd love to see a game show where he tries to catch various things -- keys, babies, jello, pop flies, knives, you name it. If you're ever holding a baby and leaning out of a burning building as Bernard Berrian says, "Throw the baby, throw it to me," I implore you to explore other alternatives. "

With Bradley I got the impression that Angelo struggled with Talent vs. ability. The talent may have been there, but the ability was not. We don't know what Brandon Lloyd's condition is. Considering he was questionable for last Sunday's game and was injured again, I'll be surprised to see him suit up next Sunday. That means having WR depth is important. Haas is a guy we know that can fill in. When you're filling out your practice squad do you want: a) A former 2nd round pick who has an attitude (allegedly) or A guy who's willing to do whatever it takes to make the team. Haas is better then Riddeau, and he can also play special teams.
-
That's exactly what I was thinking MadLith. How many interceptions did we throw to Detroit last season? It was pitiful. Who thought that Kansas City would knock off Denver this week? I'm guessing most Bears-fans are thinking, "We should be 3 & 2 after next week . . . " I'm nervous.
-
This is a REAL rough estimate, but if I remember correctly it was something like 2 years for 3 million. I was surprised we got him so cheap. He's a veteran, and I saw him in training camp, and the guy works his ass off and runs precise routes. I'm glad we have him on the roster.

Whoops! Hamilton. My bad.

http://www.chicagobears.com/news/NewsStory.asp?story_id=5169 Sorry if this was posted somewhere else. I just read on the "Mark Bradley" thread where someone mentioned Harrison, and I'm going, "Who? What?" So I had to go to chicagobearstalk.com to find it. I just hate it when breaking Bear's news is not front and center (albeit a back-up, back-up corner-back) I'm guessing this is sending a message that we're not please with our current corner-back situation.
