If you throw out the Redskins game because Cutler played only a few series and project Jay's numbers out over a 16 game season, he'd throw for over 4,100 yards, 30 TD's and 18 picks with an average QB Rating of 93. What do you think those stats would be if we had a D that could get us back the ball more frequently? Or a D that didn't let the other team score at a record pace? As it is, that yardage would put him in the top 10 of QB's, the TD production in the top 6 and rating, top 11. Fact is, therefore, he's a better than average QB and guys who aren't "all that" are getting deals that are similar or exceed this one. As you fairly state, it'll all depend on where he goes from here. If we build this D up to be decent and don't take major injuries on the O Line or at other skilled offensive positions, is it reasonable to think Jay could put up top 5 QB numbers next season? I think it is. I don't know if this is a good deal or not. As others have said, it's about cap money, not average $ per year. We'll see.

Your math is a little squirrely but whatever. On the $18 mil per season, all I've seen is that's what the first 3 years average. And that probably takes into account signing bonus, various roster bonuses, possible incentives, etc. Until I hear all of those things, you know, facts, I won't harshly judge the deal like you apparently have. If some of that money is in the form of various types of bonuses, and this being a 7 year deal, it could be very accommodating to the team. And with them having $46 mil in cap space (best in the league) this could leave a lot of money to chase FA's. But I realize you won't listen to any of that. You're better than Emery and most NFL GM's. A legend in your own mind.

If Cutler leads Jeffery a few yards further down the field there's no gaurantee the corner doesn't even close more. Impossible to say. Expecting a perfect throw every play (assuming this one wasn't) is ridiculous.

I agree with all of your points but just want to point out that freedom of speech as guaranteed in the constitution is about freedom from governmental reprisal, not individual repercussions. An employer is always free to reprimand an employee if they say something embarrassing to the company. And this Duck guy is a real piece of work. But whatever, I never watched him anyway and don't care now. More power to him. I'm glad he told the world how he feels and wish more people did exactly that. It's how I am here and in the real world. When people know exactly where you stand they can make informed decisions on whether or not they want to continue to support you with their viewership. You obviously know what I meant by fired and if not, I won't waste either of our time. The discussion about McCown/Cutler doesn't need to be part of the equation, you and others just want to believe that Trestman has some magic QB fairy dust (no offense intended to Aaron Rodgers) and I simply live in the real world where QB's of Cutler's ability don't fall off trees every day. If McCown had more of a history of performing that well, if he was 5 years younger, if he'd expressed a desire to be the starter here or elsewhere (hell, to even for sure play next year is at issue) then I might start to consider all the "what if" scenarios. And you're free to do so, don't let me stop you. Just because I think it's silly doesn't mean it isn't entertaining. We've got a LONG off-season to keep ourselves occupied. Besides, it takes all the energy I have to rip Jason constantly. I don't need to be on your shit-list too.

It's a throw that shows Cutler is developing as much trust in Alshon as he has in Marshall. I liked the throw and you have to use that height advantage to your benefit when you have it. If McCown had made the same toss, many here would be slapping themselves five about how awesome it was. Put simply, it's a tool we have in the toolbox with the WR's we have. Cutler went to it with a good throw (not great) and it should've been caught. Receivers drop passes sometimes and that one wasn't a sure thing. QB's don't make perfect passes 100% of the time. This is the reality of the game.

I didn't like Jay using up all the clock when we had 10 seconds left there on one play. He could've put it up toward the back of the endzone earlier and left another play. That's on Jay. But let's be serious here, it would've been a miracle finish had it gone our way and it was a couple of good plays by Jay that got us into that position in the first place.

I really like what I see in this article! Not sure where the money for ST's players is captured but if he's on the money, this would be a huge upgrade for the Bears. Of course, there are dozens of teams chasing the same FA's so there's no guarantee we can get any of them much less all of them. I think hiring a new DC with some name recognition might help sway a few of those FA's our way though. Bye bye Mr. Tucker! (Although, I admit, I don't expect the Bears to do this, I really think they should.)

They'll put incentives in his contract that'll allow him to be paid like one of those studs if/when he proves he's one of them. I expect a big deal for Cutler but not one that breaks the bank. I think Jay wants to come back and I think Jay knows that with the Bears receivers and new O Line, he's going to continue to put up excellent numbers. if he really believes in himself, and I think that's fairly apparent, he'll have no problem with reasonable incentives.
