  1. This is an extremely strong RB draft. You are talking about 2nd round talent in the 4th round at the RB position. I would be surprised if, with this new emphasis on the running game, we didn't at least consider picking up another back (albeit I liked what I saw out of our backup in his rookie year but it isn't like he got a ton of play).
  2. I don't think we actually know that they chose Trestman over Gase. It very well might be that Gase decided he wasn't the right fit their given the growth he wants as a head coach? I don't know the answer and I don't think any of us do. I just know that Gase is widely viewed as a bright offensive mind and he's the type of candidate we'd have rarely even gotten an interview with in the past. Outside of Billy Joe Bob Cooter or whatever his name is, all the other names I've heard sound fantastic.
  3. I actually like Kubiak a lot and the system he runs but this is more Elway bringing in someone he is comfortable with. I have no idea why Joey D though. Head scratcher, although Rodgers doesn't sound like a Toub either (we were all spoiled)...he also doesn't sound like the guy who runs the most complex special teams unit in the league (Joey D) which is just an awful idea for a unit that has as much turnover as ST has.
  4. Zach Zaidman ‏@ZachZaidman 5m5 minutes ago #Bears reached an agreement with Sam Garnes (assistant DBs), Dave Magazu (OL coach) and Derius Swinton II (assistant ST coach). Kevin Fishbain ‏@kfishbain 4m4 minutes ago New Bears O-line coach Dave Magazu has coached with John Fox since 2003. Fun fact: he coached offensive tackles/tight ends at NIU in 1984
  5. Weiss is a very brilliant offensive mind. His collegiate career hasn't went well but he has been nothing but successful at the pro level. He took a pretty bad team in KC in his one year as OC and they ended up having the top rushing attack and ranked around 10 in points, etc.
  6. My guess is Gase probably wants to move on his own. Supposedly their relationship is really strong. I think Gase wants to align himself with the right destination where he thinks he can make an impact and get that HC job he covets. Not sure that Chicago is that destination where you may have a lame duck QB in Cutler. You go to Jacksonville and you have a talented young QB who you can potentially make progress with and have him help land you a gig. Kubiak replaces Fox Fox replaces Trestman Trestman replaces Kubiak
  7. Good job for Trestman to get. Gase now without a job entirely since he was focused on Ravens / Jaguars. Presume he will meet w/Rams and maybe Browns now? Is he willing to work with Fox?
  8. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap300000042...with-buccaneers He is having a falling out in Tampa and had a lot of success in San Fran. At 30, he won't be expensive and my guess is we will eventually sign him.
  9. Apparently their was at least one significant incident that happened during a practice. Pure speculation but hadn't heard anything of it. I would have thought he was a natural fit in a 3-4. Than again, we have Ego and Sutton so maybe Bears want to go another direction. Sounded like the combination of the "incident" (maybe their were previous ones) along with his age and the injuries made him too unreliable.
  10. Agreed; Look at how that Niners defense excelled despite all the injuries and turmoil this past year. What they were able to do was flat out impressive coaching.
  11. Fuller is our best cornerback so the answer isn't he is a nickel back. He is our #1 starting CB. Dix was pretty meh all year and in general didn't make many plays for the team (ask pretty much any Packer man and they'd tell you Dix wasn't anything special in yr 1). Not writing him off just saying no one thought he was special. Fuller had some "special" games and some "meh / bad" games and than improved late. You expect up and down play out of our CB, but going back in time, I'm sticking with who we picked.
  12. Which is what most Packer fans would tell you too. Dix was not very good for them in his rookie year.
  13. Pace nailed it with Fox, but Fangio is Fox nailing it!
  14. This is a year old, but a great read on Fangio. Talks a lot about his diligence in the film room, etc. http://mmqb.si.com/2014/01/17/vic-fangio-s...ve-coordinator/
  15. You can't contend with crappy LB play in a 3-4 and with that roster at LB, you are in for what I'd call the crappiest LB play. That would be a gigantic recipe for disaster. We have the 7th pick in the draft and I expect that we'll use it on a defensive anchor (and if not that, than a stud LT).
  16. Still curious to see who we get on the offensive side from a coaching perspective but Fox just has a totally different feel to him. He is just what the doctor ordered at this point for the franchise.
  17. Niners have some FA in their secondary. I would presume we will go after one or two of them.
  18. I hope we are seeing something like this 3 years from now...well we know next year it probably won't happen but hey, we can dream right, haha. "During his first three seasons with the 49ers, they were the only team to rank in the top-five in these nine categories: points allowed (16.1 points per game, first), rush defense (89.1 yards per game, first), rushing average (3.7 yards per carry, first), first downs allowed (835, first), opposing quarterback rating (76.0 rating, second), yards allowed (306.5 yards per game, third), 20-plus yard plays allowed (147, third), takeaways (93, fifth) and third-down defense (34.1 percent, fifth)."
  19. Honestly...how freaking great is Fox. Feel so much better about this organization today than I did a month ago.
  20. I have a big problem with that. We have to massively upgrade the defensive side of the football and should focus our off-season their. We have added a defensive head coach and one of the top DC's in the league and we need to rebuild that side of the football. Yes, we can't totally ignore the offense but my theory is Bears are going to stick with Jay and the talent / existing weapons. If I am focusing on a position on offense, it is the area of speed wideout (I also hope that Wilson can make steps forward) and the oline (clearly if the right QB is there you go that direction too). Defense needs loads of help and I think we have the right guys to help fix it but we certainly need players and lots of them, specifically in the secondary and at LB.
  21. Dan Pompei ‏@danpompei 29s29 seconds ago Fangio worked with Bears DBs coach Jon Hoke in Houston. Hoke will be part of his third Bears regime if he survives, and he should IMO.
  22. Ian Rapoport ‏@RapSheet 2m2 minutes ago Former #49ers secondary coach Ed Donatell is expected to join new #Bears defensive coordinator Vic Fangio in Chicago, source said.
  23. I think we are covered at NT. Sounds like Ego and Ratliff both fit their. Not sure what our ends look like. Would presume Jared Allen isn't a fit in a 3-4. Shea is a fit (well at least the guy the Bears thought they drafted) but that ship has probably sailed. I'm not enough of a 3-4 expert to know exactly. We are already extremely thin at LB so maybe our LB's play better in a 3-4 or we just now need to make linebacker and even bigger need. Presume Houston and Young are actually decent fits in a 3-4 on an end (well when they are healthy). Jones and Bostic are probably our two starters. No idea what they do with Shea and by all accounts Greene is horrible.
