  1. Coaching 18-21 college kids is a bit different than telling a bunch of grown men, who do this for a living, how to play football, no? Trestman knows offense, but I would have to take caution, given the fact that he's never been able to hold an NFL job for more than 2 years, and has been in the CFL since 2008. That's all I'm really saying.
  2. I think it's a lot easier to maintain control over CFL players than it is in the NFL. CFL players don't make a huge sum of money, and they don't carry as much weight or power as players in the NFL.
  3. I've heard that Trestman is a very good X's and O's guy, but has been known to be abrasive at times to others on the coaching staff, to the point where he became an outcast about a year into his hiring from other places. When you look at the pattern of his career, he's never lasted more than 1-2 years before wearing out his welcome and moving on. I think there's a reason for why he's been in the CFL since 08.

    Peppers

That's exactly why I hate when people throw out statements such as the one above that I commented on. Everything is always worse when it's the team you are a fan of. We say things as if it can't possibly happen to anybody else in the entire league.

    Peppers

And you can't say that about anybody else? Really? Is Webb the only player in the NFL that has that happen to him? I think not. You better be watching every tackle in the NFL before you use that example as part of an argument.
  6. I don't fault Shanahan for playing Griffin IF he was cleared to play by the doctors. If that wasn't the case, then he made a big mistake.
  7. Looks like we could be interviewing Kyle Shanahan pretty soon here, if they're interested. Redskins are about to lose.
  8. I could live with Arians, but my preference now is to get a young up and comer, so he can grow with the team and be here for the next, hopefully, 8-10 years. I like Arian's offense, but I just like McCoy and Shanahan a little more.
  9. The Bears were the only team to get 4 hours with McCoy. Everybody else was 3.

    Peppers

He is our best defensive player by far. Julius Peppers doesn't ever get enough credit for what he allows the defense to do.
  11. I don't remember anybody saying that 12 was the max he would go. I could be wrong, but I can't recall Emery saying that he wouldn't interview more than 12 candidates. I still think there is going to be at least 1 or two more coaches that get interviews that we haven't heard from yet. He wanted to interview Doug Marrone of Syracuse but Marrone is going to Buffalo. That's at least one college coach he had an eye on. This tweet from Adam Schefter has me worried a bit. Unless I'm reading too much into it, it seems as if that tweet was true, then the Mike McCoy, Bruce Arians, Rick Dennison, and Tom Clements interviews would be pointless. If they're going to bring in finalists THIS week, that means only teams that aren't currently in the playoffs will be able to do so. If I connect the dots a little more, Mike Sullivan's 6 hour interview could mean that he's going to get the job. Maybe Emery already knows this. I hope I'm wrong. I've wanted McCoy since the beginning of this process. I'll be damned if Emery panics and takes a guy before waiting for one of these teams to get knocked out of the playoffs. He's going to get the guy he wants. Nobody is going to go pick the San Diego Chargers, or the Eagles, or some other crap team over the Bears. If Emery wants McCoy, or one of these other guys, he's going to get them. There's no need to take a guy now because you're worried one of those other candidates will get hired elsewhere.

    Peppers

There isn't a player out there that could replace the impact Julius Peppers brings to the defense on each and every play, so why get rid of him? Maybe you can restructure his contract but releasing him would not be smart in my opinion.
  13. I like the HC and the Free Agency signings but the Bears aren't going to cut Peppers. His cap hit is like 16 million, so it would cost more to cut him than it would to keep him for a year I believe.
  14. How could Jonathon Scott not be a positive? He gave up zero sacks in 6 starts this year, and I can hardly recall very many pressures. That doesn't look right.
  15. Out of all the candidates that have been reported to the Bears, the ones that would upset me the most would be both of the special teams guys. I understand the theory behind why ST coaches should get more looks at head jobs, because they're the only coaches who work with everyone on the field, but seriously.. come on. Don't piddle fart around with this job and hand it to the guy who's never orchestrated an offense before. I don't want the Marrone guy, or Trestman. Arians and Carmichael would receive a "meh" reaction from me, but wouldn't be as upset as I would be with Armstrong and Decamillas or whatever his name is. McCoy, Shanahan are still at the top of my list, followed by Brian Kelly.
  16. Yeah. Mike Florio is a POS. Not sure how he can possibly know this, given that Bruce Arians hasn't even interviewed for the job yet.
  17. Me thinks Emery could also be interviewing some of these guys for potential assistant jobs as well. Trestman would be a crazy HC hire, but it sounds like he would be a player's coach, and is someone who has worked with Cutler before. He also looks like a serial killer.
  18. Some news about Mike Sullivan. Sounds like he might be in serious contention for the job.
  19. Chip Kelly to Cleveland..
  20. I've been hearing people (not on here) mention the name Mike Wallace as a dark horse FA target because of what Emery has mentioned about a guy with some speed. Not sure I buy into that, although that would be a pretty scary wide receiving lineup to pair him next to Jeffery and Marshall. There will be another receiver added to the roster before the end of the offseason. A cheaper option in free agency could be someone like Darius Heyward Bey, who might become a cap causality in Oakland.
  21. I think he may be one of the 3 finalists for the job if he doesn't automatically get hired in San Diego.
  22. I can definitely see McCoy. Arians maybe to a lesser extent. McCoy seems like he fits the criteria of someone with an upbeat, energetic personality, who can command a press conference. I watched a couple of videos of him talking to the media yesterday, and he came off like someone who was already a head coach. McCoy Press Vid That's a press conference from today. I think Brad Biggs must have been in Denver because It sounded like his voice on a couple of questions. Kyle Shanahan is one guy I really want to find out if he's going to get an interview. Supposedly, his dad won't let him until the season is over, which means we wouldn't be able to ask next week after the game unless they lose.
  23. Everything depends upon what the new system is. If we get a head coach who uses a lot of zone blocking like Shanahan or McCoy, you're going to want to get some smaller, more athletic offensive lineman, as opposed to the bruising maulers. Ryan Clady is about as realistic as Sean Payton being our next head coach before he re-signed with the Saints. I don't have a particular preference for a certain guy after him. Just get somebody good. Get a couple of guys that can start right away. In a perfect world, I would sign 2 and draft one within the first 2 rounds.
  24. That mock would be about the best thing possible. Ogletree is a stud, and MLB is a huge need with a declining Urlacher who probably won't even be back next year. Any of the Alabama offensive lineman are also fine with me.
  25. You can cross Bill Obrien off the list. He's staying at Penn State.
