  1. What the hell are these play calls? These WR screens make me want to scream. GB with a perfect opportunity to end the half with points. Just terrible execution, once again, by this offense—putting the defense in a severe disadvantage.
  2. The trend of 1st down plays that go for negative or no yards has to stop.
  3. Offense cannot get out of their own way. Penalties are killing them.
  4. Back to back good defensive stands. Time to finally put the ball in the endzone, offense.
  5. Can't settle for FG's!!! Had a great drive going that they let stall out on a couple negative plays.
  6. Negative plays on first down are killing this team. Neither team is having success to passes in the flat.
  7. Forced a punt! Good field position now. Regain this momentum with a TD, please!
  8. Somehow came away with 3 on that drive. 2 false start penalties and a stupid 15 yard penalty on Moore. If the defense can force a punt, they can restabilize this game from getting crazy. Another Packer TD and it's mayhem.
  9. What a nightmare of a start. Turnover on downs, give Love perfect field position, give up 2 big 3rd down conversions on D, and then Love finds Doubs in the endzone on 3rd and goal with all day to throw.
  10. You've got to be kidding me.... 2 chances to get 1 yard and they turn it over on downs. Packers set up perfectly to strike first.
  11. It's a small sample size, for sure, but I like the skill set Bagent seems to have. His footwork on all the rhythm and timing throws is fantastic, and he throws it with some nice touch. I also love his ability to sense pressure and climb the pocket. The athleticism is not elite, by any means, but it is more than adequate enough to survive at this level. He had a bad interception in the last game, but listening to him talk about it makes me feel even more confident about his development. I'm glad the Bears recognized their mistake in signing PJ Walker in order to keep this young kid around a little longer. I know you have to take his DII stats with a grain of salt, but you can't ignore the experience. There's something to be said about a guy who started 4 years in college, regardless of the competition. I think it's reflective in how he carries himself on the field. The poise was evident right away. He's got a lot to learn, but I'm excited to see how this whole thing pans out.
  12. 100% right on Fields. He has no sense of urgency in the pocket. One of my biggest pet peeves is watching him move at a snails pace to get the ball out to a receiver on a quick screen pass. I don't know what that is, because at least there you can't even chalk that up to slow processing because there is nothing to process. You're just supposed to snap and throw it as quickly as possible, and he doesn't even do that well. The theory that I mostly agree with on OSU quarterbacks is that they have so much more talent than everyone else in the BIG10 that their internal clocks aren't properly calibrated to handle NFL speed, because they very rarely ever face any real pressure from opposing teams, and when they do, there's almost always a couple of 1st round talents at WR you can always throw the ball to, because they're usually running wide open down the field somewhere. I was cautiously optimistic about his future before training camp, but the reports I've seen out of camp haven't been all that encouraging on the offensive side of things with errant throws, interceptions (18 of them, according to Josh Shrock), and really bad OL play. DJ Moore has been terrific, though, and I think because of that, you have to feel at least a little better about the kinds of things the offense can do this year. Week 1 can't get here soon enough.
  13. I'm pretty sure that story is bs, but the insinuation of his laziness is not too far fetched to believe. There was a rumor around the time the Bears signed Davis that Mike Vrabel "hated" him. The speculation was that Vrabel was tired of seeing so injuries from certain players that he didn't think were doing the right things to take care of their bodies. Not sure whether it's true or not, but that would certainly jive with what has been going on over in CHI ever since he arrived, starting with him skipping OTA's. The whole vibe with him has been weird since day 1. He skipped OTA's, and then suffered an injury just as training camp was getting started that coincidentally managed to keep him out the entire pre-season. Also, there was that awkward interview he had with Bears press where he refused to answer any questions about his injury and told everybody to "talk to the trainer." I could be wrong, but this sounds like a classic case of somebody mailing it in as soon as they get the bag. I don't like where this is headed.
  14. Bounce back game for Fields and the offense. I thought Fields played well for the most part. Would have been nice to get his first touchdown pass. The defense did not play well. If Detroit didn't Detroit themselves at the goal line 3 consecutive times early in that game, they probably end up winning. I'm getting really tired of seeing miscommunication in the secondary every week where somebody is wide open for a touchdown down the field. Robert Quinn and the rest of the pass rush is about the only positive thing you could say about them today. Desai needs to get this stuff cleaned up. Next week is a winnable game, but it'll be a tough test. The Raiders might have the best offense the Bears will have played all season, but their defense will allow some points. This team can't win a shootout yet, so the key to the game is going to probably come down to who wins the matchup between the Bears defense and the Raiders offense.
  15. Couple of thoughts: - Justin Fields is not ready to start NFL games - Matt Nagy does not belong in the NFL at all - Robert Quinn looks really good this year Let's start with the obvious: Justin Fields has been pretty terrible through these past two games. I thought last week he was able to show some flashes despite the poor statistics, but today was just awful all the way around. He missed a walk in touchdown to Darnell Mooney running downfield on a play that resulted in a DPI, and he continues to hold the ball way too long while standing flat footed in the pocket. The offensive line was a trainwreck, but Justin Fields doesn't do them any favors when he stands there like a sitting duck waiting for a play to develop. I used to say the Bears should allow him to play through his mistakes, but if he's getting sacked almost 10 times every game while also not giving you anything down field or with his legs, then Andy Dalton or Nick Foles should be out there instead. Matt Nagy is the worst head coach in the NFL and has no business running a team at this point. I don't know what else he needs to do to prove he doesn't know what he's doing on offense. Everybody he coaches gets worse. He doesn't understand how to utilize the strengths of his best players and quarterback. I counted 2 quarterback designed rollouts the entire game against Cleveland. How is that even possible? You've got a dual threat rookie quarterback making his first start against a team with a great pass rush and your gameplan is to let the kid sit back there and get himself killed? If Matt Nagy were fired today, no team is giving him another HC opportunity, nor would they be giving him an offensive coordinator job either. That is how you know it's the right time to fire somebody. If nobody else wants him, then what is he doing coaching YOUR team? At the very least, since we know the Bears never make in-season firings, Bill Lazor needs to be the playcaller moving forward. The last time the offense looked competent was when he called the plays before Nagy took them back over in the final Packers game.
  16. If the defense didn't give up those two touchdowns late, I would have said this defense played a lot like their 2018 selves. 3 straight INT's, and a fumble is a good day for any defense, but their secondary is still a major problem. Duke Shelley was getting torched out there. Eddie Jackson wasn't looking at the ball on the touchdown to Chase. I think he may have been able to pick that off if he's looking at the ball and not where the defender is going. Mack made a sack, but he's not the game changing defensive player he used to be. It's been a while since I've seen him takeover a game. The most disappointing part about today is the fact that the offense could only score 6 points off of their 4 turnovers. All of them gave the Bears favorable field position. That just cannot happen. It absolutely is something that happens way too often in a Matt Nagy offense. I'm tired of these games where it's a struggle to reach 20 points. That should be a constant on a BAD offensive day, not a good one. They've got to get to a point where they can confidently walk into any game knowing they're good for at least 24. That's what a modern NFL offense should be able to do.
  17. I'm rooting for Fields, but that was not a very encouraging start to his career. It's not a total dud either, because his WR's dropped several great passes that would have made his numbers look much better, and we know he came in during the middle of the game without having had any reps with the 1st team offense in practice (or pre-season, for that matter). He looked like a rookie that wasn't quite ready for the moment. He had 2 bad false start penalties, a fumble that was almost a TD, and a brutal INT that nearly got them beat. Nagy didn't do him any favors with the playcalling—again—not running any bootlegs or rollouts that got him outside the pocket. He didn't look comfortable sitting back and reading the defense, which is why it's so frustrating that Nagy didn't call any plays to help ease the pressure off of him. He held the ball too long, and I don't think he looked very explosive with his runs either. All that said, he definitely made some impressive throws. That throw to Robinson that he dropped was perfect. He threw it with enough arc to allow Robinson to adjust on the fly. He just didn't come down with it. It was a huge momentum swing too, because it came right after the Bears picked off Joe Burrow. The stadium would have exploded. Mooney dropped another deep throw on a crossing route that I thought should have been caught, and then there was a garbage OPI call on Cole Kmet that would have put the team in FG position. He also deserves credit for saving the game at the end by picking up that last 1st down with his feet on (I believe) a 3rd down. That is a dynamic you'll never get with Andy Dalton. All in all it was a mixed bag performance from Fields. I don't think he did enough to deserve a start against CLE if Dalton is healthy, but I'm also very curious to see how he'll play with a week of game prep. I think he's only going to get better with more experience. I just wish I trusted the HC to put him in better positions to succeed.
  18. Ed Donnatel is the current DC for Vic Fangio's Broncos. The Bears were never getting anybody outside of the organization to come be their DC and work under a lame duck HC. Desai probably WAS their best option. Kind of reminds me of the year Lovie elevated Bob Babich to be their DC, and that turned out to be an awful decision.
  19. This is a bottom 10 team in the league. It's unfortunate they are without their 1st round pick this year, because they're going to need a massive overhaul of talent here pretty soon. All of their best guys on defense, with the exception of Roquan, have gotten older and slower. Khalil Mack is not a game changing star anymore. He's gotten worse every year he's been with the team. Eddie Jackson is so bad right now, that if he wasn't making so much money, you would seriously consider cutting him. I don't think I've ever seen a more promising young player who's career has taken such a drastic turn for the worst after the way he started out. We know how bad Robert Quinn is. Eddie Goldman is never available anymore.. There just isn't much here to be excited about, and I think it's only going to get worse when players inevitably get injured. Andy Dalton is a waste of time and a waste of reps for Justin Fields, who I thought looked poised and under control in the limited amount of reps he got today. The OL played good enough to win, especially in the run game. Of course they lose both of their LT's in week 1. You knew that was going to happen. I thought David Montgomery was easily their best player tonight. If he's going to continue to run the ball like that, they need to feature him more in the offense moving forward. The most hilarious part about tonight's game is the fact that Andy Dalton did not attempt a pass beyond 15 yards all game. The Bears ranted and raved all offseason about how much speed they added at the WR position, and yet, they didn't do anything to take advantage of it. Typical Bears. Typical Matt Nagy. I think they are going to lose next week to Cincinnati at home. This season has a 2017 feel to it. Fields will be in there before the first month of the season is over. I would be totally shocked if Dalton survives through CLE.
  20. You literally couldn't draw up a more perfect scenario for Justin Fields to step in to. By this time next year there is a very real possibility that neither Rodgers nor Davante Adams are GB Packers anymore. My body is ready.
  21. Darnold is awful. He's never had a year where he looked better than Trubisky, so I don't know why anybody would think he'll suddenly show it now. People like to rag on Minshew for whatever reason, but he's put up some impressive numbers on a horrid Jacksonville team the last two years. He's sneaky good, and with the right playcaller/team, he could be a steal for somebody.
  22. Glad the Bears didn't give up picks for this guy. Awful trade for the Colts. There is no rational basis for why any team should have had to give up a pick for Carson Wentz when you see what the Rams had to give up just to get rid of Jared Goff. The Eagles were always going to trade Wentz, and everybody knew it. Getting a potential 1st and 3rd round pick back for a guy who was the worst starting quarterback in football last year is highway robbery.
  23. With Nagy back calling the plays again, I'm good with making wholesale changes. The man just continues to let his own ego get in the way of winning football. The playcalling today looked awfully similar to 2019 with all the shotgun formations and inside runs. Of course, since they made the playoffs, he's not going anywhere, and neither is Pace, which means we're stuck with this same group for at least another year. The question will be with which quarterback? Trubisky showed again today why his ceiling is an average-to-below average NFL starter. He just makes too many dumb decisions with the football, and it seems to get even worse in the redzone. If you stop their run game and sit on all the short routes, Mitch Trubisky isn't a difficult quarterback to stop. I really don't care whether they bring him back now or not. The future Bears quarterback is not on their current roster. At the very least, Chuck Pagano needs to be fired immediately after they are eliminated from the playoffs. What that man has done with the amount of talent he's had at his disposal is criminal. There is a big difference between a great DC and a bad one, and we are seeing that on full display now. He's turned Khalil Mack into a virtual nonfactor and oversaw Eddie Jackson's descent from All Pro to maybe not even a starting caliber safety. There's been a lot to talk about all year, but to me, the massive decline of the defense is the story of the Bears season.
  24. If they miss the playoffs, they'll look back at that DET game as the most costly loss of the season. Not sure the Cardinals lose another game. I also don't think GB will end up resting their starters, because I don't see them beating TEN next week.
  25. Yes. I've been saying for a while now that Trubisky's ceiling is probably what Jimmy G was last year, and that he belongs in a Kyle Shanahan-style offense, because of all the roll out stuff. If only we had a coach here who would wake up and see what everybody else has been saying for the past two years. When Mitch gets in a groove, he's usually using his legs as a weapon, both in the run and pass game.
