  1. Bears seem committed to bad defense and special teams for at least another year. If this move doesn't work out, and we have another year like this past season, Trestman deserves to be on the hot seat.
  2. Go San Diego or Denver! I hate both these NFC teams. I don't think SF is as good as they appear to be because Kaepernick isn't as good as he was last year. Seattle will probably roll over them again, and then it will be interesting to see what they do on a neutral field, away from the noise. Still can't count out Tom Brady though, but I'm thinking the winner of this Den/SD game is winning the Superbowl.
  3. I'm of the opinion that you should have to earn your way into the playoffs, and it should be difficult to get there. I don't like allowing more .500 level teams to sneak into the playoffs because then it becomes less important to win your division. What I would like to see is them change the way the seedings work out. If a wild card team has a better record than a team that is a division winner, they should have home field advantage. It doesn't make any sense the way it is now.
  4. Not bad. The Bears really need to cut Peppers and get their 9-10 millions in savings or whatever it is to sign a couple of impact players on defense, preferably a D-Lineman or two, or maybe a safety like Byrd. If they cut Peppers Bush, Weems, Earl Bennett, Conte, and Podlesh I think they save about 16.5M. I'm thinking they'll hold onto Earl though.
  5. Good point. I could see us dealing Briggs if we made a switch to a 3-4 on defense. I don't think Tampa would work though since they already have Lavonte David, who's an All Pro.
  6. Marvin Lewis is going to be looking for a job tomorrow. He's another DC candidate, though I think he might pull a Lovie and wait a year. He's been a HC for 11 years. He'll get another opportunity at some point. I'd still rather have Wade Phillips or Ray Horton anyways. Btw, Andy Dalton is bloody awful. Lord have mercy..
  7. Yeah, you might be right. I forgot about Robbie's deal. Hopefully Slauson's number is only at a 2 or lower for this year. Surely Clayton was also not counting the 5 million or whatever that would be needed for the draft. I guess that's where my confusion comes from.
  8. That number doesn't sound right. We have like 30 people that were free agents this year and we only re-signed 3 of them. I realize Jay's cap number is big, but we should have more than 2 million left to spend. In that mock offseason somebody drew up on page two, it noted we had about 46 million before the Cutler, Jennings, and Slauson signings.
  9. They pretty much have to backload the shit out of all the deals they sign this season with that cap number. It's basically either pay him an insane amount of money the first 3 years and leave yourself an out, or spread the pay out over 5 years at a much lower cap number, but he becomes more difficult to cut if things go bad. I prefer the former, but again, I never would have signed him to THAT type of money to begin with.
  10. Those numbers just mean we have to pay him for 5 years instead of 3 right? but the cap hit is lower. There's still a give and take. Either you pay him for big money the first 3 years with a larger cap hit, or you spread it out at a lower number over 5 years. Both options kind of suck IMO.
  11. Anyone know if Byrd and Dix play the same position at safety? I'd love to have them both if possible. One in free agency, and the other with the 14th pick.
  12. Oops, you beat me to the punch. My bad.
  13. Here are the numbers, according to Spiegel's source: That would mean we'd owe him guaranteed money for 5 years instead of 3, but the cap hit is lower.. I'd rather it just be for the 3 years and swallow the larger cap hit now. Well actually I'd prefer they just didn't re-sign him to this ridiculous contract in the first place but that's over and done with..
  14. In light of the Cutler deal, it seems like a forgone conclusion that Julius Peppers is gone. Melton probably too. Need to cut some guys to make up part of the insanely amount of money you are giving Cutler.
  15. If Long is moving to tackle, it should be to left, not as a RT. He's too athletic to waste on the right side. Seeing as how Bushrod is here now, I don't see Long moving positions this year. They need to stick with the same group next year minus Garza.
  16. A 22.5 million dollar cap hit is absolutely moronic and insane. This deal is even worse than I expected after they announced it yesterday. A franchise tag is an 16 million dollar cap hit. The point of a long term deal should have been to make that number lower, not higher! Edit: I'm listening to Matt Spiegel on 670 and he claims from his "source" that Cutler gets a pro rated bonus that makes the Cap hit only 11.5 in year 1. He's posting the numbers on twitter shortly. I'll re-post them here.
  17. And that scares the shit out of me. He never goes with the guy you think he should. Luckily Long has turned out to be okay, but McClellin was a waste at DE and could find himself out of the league after next year if a transition to LB doesn't work out.
  18. Guard would be near next to last as far as priorities go in this draft. I can see adding another TE in the later rounds, but adding a guard, especially after signing Slauson and having Long there now is utter nonsense. James Brown is their rotational guard. Seems odd he would bring that up. I didn't hear all of Emery's press conference but I don't believe he said anything about Slauson moving to center, and I think he wants to re-sign Garza for some reason.
  19. Right now, I'm all for Quintin Dix or whatever his name is from Alabama. Nix wouldn't be bad either, but I've heard he has attitude and work ethic issues.
  20. 2 years too late, but better late than never. Just hope its in a 3-4 scheme.
  21. Emery pretty much said Shea McClellin would move to LB'er next year.

His play and the money they gave him for it doesn't match up, in my opinion. That's where I'm at. I do think his erratic decision making has plagued this team in the past and it will moving forward.

Over the course of a career, 1 playoff appearance in 8 years is difficult to do if you really are a great quarterback. Especially at quarterback, where you have a greater impact on winning than any other position on the field. His numbers suggest that he's a slightly above average quarterback, which I would say is pretty accurate. Glad you brought that up. His durability remains a huge question mark, which makes all that guaranteed money look even less appealing. I could say the exact same thing about the excuse makers. Letting him go was probably never a realistic option. However, that doesn't mean they made the right decision to sign him to the $ they gave him. TBD. Nobody is disputing this.

Where did I say we missed the playoffs this year because of Cutler? In his entire career, both in Denver and in Chicago, he has made the playoffs once. That is Tony Romo territory, except Romo is statistically the better quarterback. What I'm saying is that it's a crap load of money to throw at a quarterback who really hasn't done anything significant his entire career.
