Jason made a case for this guy some time ago and one of the things I like about him, besides his leadership capabilities, is his familiarity with Kyle Long. Should help in the long term aspect of the line in their knowing each other already and how the other works. Definitely ok with him being drafted in the 3rd and given his rather high rating, this was almost what you call a BPA.

Collins can't go into the draft next year. If he chooses not to play this year (or if he can't) then he'll have to be a UDFA. In this case a 4th Rd contract is a whole lot better than being a UDFA.

Basic answer is no. Now you have a maximum amount you can pay a rookie based on where they were drafted per the CBA. I'm not sure if there are limitations on when that can be renegotiated, but his initial contract will be the same for any other T drafted at his slot. I'm not sure if they can sign him, then just give him more money right after or not. He won't be a free agent if the team that drafts him can't come to terms. No player can bypass the drafting process like that. He will instead be eligible to be drafted again next year.

I think its a bluff. You already got the cloud over his head now put it out there that he wont sign. It would allow him to become a FA if not drafted. Not sure what types of contracts he can sign, is it better than a 4th to 7th round draftee???

2. This is about money, well dont sign dont play he will make zero

The drop of in money is not much from round 3 to round 4, the guy is getting terrible advice leaking this info. He might be B hurt that he didn't go round 1, but he was not a guaranteed 1st rd pick to begin with. Stop counting your chickens$ before the eggs hatch.

If I were GM (good thing I am not, LOL) I would contact his agent, talk to the player, explain we understand his disappointment, that if he signs with us we will expect him to honor his contract until its completion but we would put in a clause that the first year he makes the pro bowl as a LOT we will rework the contract with an extension to a fair payoff for him. No pro bowl no extension guaranteed.

 

I think that would be a fair way to go about it.

 

If, however, on investigating the situation he is in, and I am sure all teams have done so, they feel there is a chance he is in anyway involved in the death of his ex girlfriend, then obviously we pass.
