For those who pay a little more attention to it than I do, does anyone see anything wrong with the following?

 

Cut Mike Glennon, Dead Cap: 4500000, Cap Savings: 11500000

Cut Dion Sims, Dead Cap: 333334, Cap Savings: 5999999

Cut Bobby Massie, Dead Cap: 500000, Cap Savings: 5600000

Cut Markus Wheaton, Dead Cap: 750000, Cap Savings: 5000000

 

Total Cap Savings from these cuts is ~$28M.

 

Current Cap is ~$40M.

 

Total Cap after cuts ~$68M.

 

Is that right?

Massie does not have a replacement on the roster. I don't mind if we upgrade one bit but I see no reason to cut him for just $5.6mil until we have that player on signed.

I am not sold on moving on from Sims already. We have seen 5 games and 4 of those was with Glennon. This is a team that will line up 2-3 TEs in heavy run formations and Sims was brought in more so for blocking part. His receiving game was seen as adequate with a potential uptick. Miller will be gone next year, leaving Shaheen, Sims, and Brown/Braunicker.

Hopefully your joking about Sims. If not, I don't know what 4 receptions for 56 yards in 5 games does for you. He has less receptions than Cunningham and Thompson (who is not even on the team anymore).

Oddly I'd be ok keeping Mark Sanchez around in 2018 for another $2mil. He's on a 1yr deal now. With Glennon gone keeping Sanchez in the QB room with Trubisky for another year might not be a bad idea.

Isn't McPhee's cap hit substantial?

We have more than enough cap left right now. It doesn't make sense cutting all these guys right now unless your bringing in someone who can provide a upgrade right away. Waiting until after the season is actually a better idea. It's not like we are going to be playoff contenders this yr any way.

Looking at this teams performance so far this year, it is obvious they need to add more to the offense side. Would Cam Meredith and Kevin White make much difference? I think next year they need one top tier WR FA addition, maybe Landry and a round 2-3 draft pick. They should also address the OT with two picks, one round 1 or 2 and one after rd 4. On D, I would like to see another OLB drafted between rounds 1-3.

With Meredith and White both coming off injury, there is no way you can even count on them for anything (especially White). So I wouldn't even count them. If they make the team and play, great, but I think OT and WR are top priorities.

I meant if they were healthy right now, would the Bears offense be as bad. Only 2 passes to a WR today, this has been almost every game also. Looking at next season, yes bring in a top FA at WR and try and get an upgrade at OT or two.

WR is obviously the biggest need. But regarding white who knows if he would be an upgrade. We've honestly never seen him play. So we just have no idea at all. If Meredith is healthy then that is an upgrade as we know what he can do. However I thought we had the worst WR corps prior to all the injuries so it's not like it would be that great.

What the injuries did was expose just how bad Glennon is. I can't imagine what he would've looked like against MIN and BAL defenses.

Looks like Steelers WR Martavious Bryant is unhappy there and has ask his team to be traded. Any thoughts on him?

I would almost rather pursue Josh Gordon who has finally come to grips with his addictions, etc. Bryant was a 4th rounder, suspended for an entire season for his 2nd substance abuse violation and is now complaining about targets on a team with LeVeon Bell and Antonio Brown. I don't know, one more violation and he is gone and we lose whatever we gave up. I guess if it was a 6th or 7th, I guess it wouldn't hurt, but anything more than that might not be worth it. Seems like a ticking time bomb.

I don't know much about Bryant. I would want a team player, which he isn't displaying to well with that demand. If he can be that teammate, then maybe worth a shot with a 6th or 7th. It would be a huge risk though with 2 violations. They have a huge need, someone needs to come through to give Wright help.
