Bruce Campbell ran a 4.78/4.81 40, fast for an OL

Campbell also had a vertical jump somewhere around 32" and a ridiculous broad jump. Somebody's going to draft him really high at this rate.

Campbell ran the forty in 4.78. Fastest OL time ever.

And he said in an interview that he "didn't run the times he wanted to." Apparently he was shooting for a low 4.7...that's just sick.

Lovin' Bruce Cambell...

I'd be real surprised if he makes it past the Raiders, knowing how Al Davis loves measurables. One medical knock on Campbell: apparently he suffers from a congenital defect called Arnold-Chiari Malformation. I assume he has the least severe grade, since people with the more severe ones don't usually live past 2 or 3 years old. He had surgery to treat it in high school, but it's a lifelong thing that has to be managed. He passed his medical and everything, but I imagine teams will have some questions about him.

So I'm watching the RBs at the Combine right now, and Ben Tate from Auburn looks pretty good. If he's around when the Bears pick in the 4th, I really wouldn't mind them using a pick on him. He runs with a lot of power, has pretty good hands, and could definitely help us out in short-yardage.

Adam_Schefter One of the more disappointing 40 times came from Florida State's Myron Rolle -- 4.70 and 4.69. Great person, subpar times.

Heard Mays from USC tore it up...did you see anything?

He ran a ridiculous time. Official time was 4.43, but a lot of scouts had him at 4.3 flat or faster. I still wouldn't touch him with a ten-foot pole.

Why not? Just curious... I've not been following this year very much due to our lack of picks...

He has poor instincts in coverage, takes bad angles, and doesn't wrap up. If he didn't have ridiculous measurables, he'd be a late-round pick. But we've already seen what happens when you pick a safety based on athletic ability over instincts, and I'd rather not see it again.

Gotcha...thanks for your insight.

Missed it but I've heard 3 or 4 different unofficial timesmentioned

There's something going on with the official 40 times this year. Apparently when you watch the video overlay, Mays finishes before Trindon Holliday. If that's true, one of their official times must be wrong.

Anyway, regardless of how fast he can run in a straight line, Mays is terrible at changing direction. A lot of teams have been projecting him to outside linebacker, rather than safety.

Mays would be better at OLB than FS. He's a freak athlete but coverage is not his forte. With all that athleticism if he wasn't covering that well in college there is no reason to think he'll get better in the pro's. I'm sure some coach will think he can coach him up at FS.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. If he could add a little weight, he could be a good 3-4 OLB or a blitzing 4-3 OLB like the Seahawks use. I'm not sure he'd do well in a 4-3 that drops their linebackers into coverage, but I'm sure there'd be a place for him. But you're right, somebody's going to think he's a FS and draft him way too high.
