Restructuring Contracts

Featured Replies

How do they work? Are their candidates on the team that can save us big? I read an article that said the Bears restructured Peppers contract and saved 8M in cap space! Is that still possible under the new CBA or whatever?

We already have a decent amount of money to work with but they can never have too much!

When did they restructure Peppers Contract? Could you give us a link if it was recent?

Yes, restructuring contracts can create big benefits for cap space and if this is recent then it may be an indication we will be a big player in FA.

And yes, it is still possible under the new CBA.

Basically, the idea in a contract restructuring winds up being that you take a player who has a big cap hit this year and spread that cap hit out over future years.

The downside of doing that with Peppers, for example...is that you make him a lot more expensive next year.

I have seen several different figures on our cap space. the latest one I seen published was 13.3 mi. I also seen where we can carry over cap money from last year of 3.2 mi.. Hopefully we dump Spaeth, Davis, Hester, which would give us another 5 mil, if I got the right information. That would add up to 21.5 million. Lets say we resign Louis, Roach, Melton. I would that would take around 9 mil. Gives us 12.5 to play with. I say we draft a LG and ILB. amd TE in our first 3 picks. Then in FAgency we sign a LT, WR. Say Albert(KC connection) or Bushrod(NO connection) and then D. Avery-WR(speed guy). I would say we can get all that done.

OL New guy, Cooper or Warmack, Garza, Louis, Webb or Carmi. Other options resign Scott dont resign Louis and bring in Brandon Moore for RG. The more I read about Bushrod, the more I think that might not be a good idea. I want Albert.

And his chronic back spasms? No thanks.

Albert. He only started 11 games last year because of chronic back spasms. As a guy who suffers from back problems, they usually don't go away.

Chris Williams went away.

Just a reminder...you need to subtract about $5 million from whatever your total available salary cap room is for "Draft holds", money kept available to cover draft picks.
