I think Tremaine Edmunds is going to get cut soon

Does anyone know if we get a comp pick if he signs somewhere else? I think he could get a 8 to 10 mil contract. -

The other teams know what we do about his play and contract and a team hoping they can extend him to lower his pay is gambling he would bend. I think he only accepts an extension for the Bears, imo. -
Yeah the no brainers need to start soon so they can get a better idea on what their true cap is.

yeah it's really a no brainer. The question is, will anyone trade for him? He'd have to pre-agree to a smaller deal, and multiple teams would need to be interested. I still think the price would be extremely low, like a 6th or a 7th, but that's the only possible thing standing in the way of cutting him right now. I guess if you cut him, it could figure into compensatory picks for 2027, but this is all nit picking. We're gonna just cut him soon because he's not good, and we gain $15M on the cap. There's no mystery LOL -

I seen a beat writer or x writer post something yesterday. It's one of the only musts just to get to cap. -

He has never been worth the contract he got but he hasn't been a bad player. Until he got hurt he led the team in Ts besides the interceptions. Never was the same after the injury. We can get equal play with less cost but saying he was the reason we had a bad rushing defense is a little bit of a stretch. A few games we had 6 starters out and a constant list of injured players through out the year. I think we can save the 15 mil and pay Demarco Jackson 5 mil and get the same production. -

Totally agree. I mean, he'll sign SOMEWHERE for a LOT less, but I don't imagine anyone is gonna trade for him, or pay him much either. -

I'll be greatly surprised if anyone wants him. The only reason he was getting any attention is because of the early season interceptions. They literally fell into his lap. If anyone wants to know why our run defense sucked, look at him as a prime suspect. -
Where is Matt Eberflus when you need him?

That's the logical conclusion for opening up some Cap space. Some pundits have suggested because he is young they may just re-sign him to lower his Cap cost this year. He was having his best year under DA, still young and DA may want to keep him. I think we should resign Demarco Jackson and try to trade him. 15 mil cost for a vet above average LB is not out of line. -
I think Tremaine Edmunds is going to get cut soon. Whether we cut him or trade him, whether before or after June 1st, the result is the same. We will open up $15M in Salary Cap space. Of course I'd rather get something for him, even a 7th rounder, but if a team trades for him, they'll be on the hook for the $15M this year, and I don't see anyone paying him that much. It's possible if two (or more) teams want him AND can restructure him in a longer term deal to something more appropriate, then maybe we could get some value in trade, but I think it's much more likely that teams will just wait for us to cut him. There's no real benefit in waiting, and we will want that cap space when the league year starts in a few weeks, so I think it's predictable that he'll be cut soon. I don't claim any inside info reports from media sources or anything like that, but all those facts just kinda line up to an outcome?

He can't handle the NB spot for sure but as a SS he can hold down the spot until a rookie gets developed. Surely cheaper than bringing Brisker back.
-
There is a value for every draft pick. Don't draft a 3rd value in the first or 7th in the 5th. Someone like Burden who had first round talent fell to the second. Poles and BJ will figure it out.

That makes the most sense as long as Ozzy can be full health again. An average LT with lots of experience. Sounds like Braxton to me.
-
I think the team will be optimistic about Ozzy returning to full health. If that’s correct then I agree with AQ Shipley when he was interviewed at the Superbowl by CHGO and discussed our Oline. He basically said if you want to buy yourself a year then sign a vet because you can’t ever really trust a rookie even the early picks. While the veterans flaws you will know how to cover up. That makes the most sense to me unless we think Ozzy can’t return i also think we might find a decent FA player at a good price now that we have a good team
-
I hope they don't need him back for his coverage liabilities. If he is a late add, because we need the depth, so be it.
-
Gardner-Johnson was nearly worthless, every team exploited him in coverage. He had some value around the LOS, or any place he didn't have to run far.
- Last week
-
As for now, he's rated a 4th to 5th round pick but the Combine could change that. That would be a great value if we got him in that range.
-
Applying those same coaching expertise, Theo or Kiran could be put in place until Ozzy comes back by just improving. With modern medicine, writing Ozzy off may be premature at least from his future status. I think LT will be a priority but it depends on their opinion on the current players. Also do not rule out a one year prove it deal with Braxton Jones coming back. It would be attractive to him thru familiarity and giving him more value in free agency with a starting spot available. Could be a first rounder or a prospect in the 2nd or 3rd rounds. I trust them to figure it out.

Trey would definitely be the best choice because, as you stated, it doesn't cost assets to get him. I think a lot of options will be open to us and we are not trying obtain the BPA, it's what we can get without what we have to give up. We will be better from just everyone being healthy but need a few pieces to fit in other than the S room. I wouldn't mind if we brought Byard, Hicks, Gardner- Johnson and a rookie. We need at least 2 assets on the DL and bring back Demarco Jackson if we let Edmunds walk. We need money just to cover our - Cap, rookie and operating capital. That will be done with restructure contracts, a few cuts and possibly trading a few players. We will soon see what and who the bears value in our re-signing and players they cut or trade.

Never watched that guy before now. It was good that he posted the TTP and TTS metrics, as those are extremely important. Damn, Sweat sucks compared to him. That's another reason I get on Dexter so much. So many people talk about him getting six sacks, but don't really notice how long it takes him to get there. One thing that's not great about the move would be that Sweat and Trey mainly line up on opposite ends. Can Booker be an LDE, because Trey is a three down player? Or do we draft Montezs' replacement? A supplemental thought could be a reunion with Khalil Mack to pair with Trey. He's a fantastic run stopper and can play both sides. I believe he could be had inexpensively at this point in his career. Of course for any of this to happen, money has to move in our favor. I'm hearing we are leaning toward restructuring DJ to keep him. If that's the case, it would be a harder pull on the money train.

Revisiting the Hendrickson option. Da German Bear put up a good video summarizing why he thinks Hendrickson is the perfect fit for the Bears over Crosby. The most obvious reason is that we do not have to give up any draft picks and high draft picks are essential for building our future depth. He showed how much better Hendrickson is on pressure rate and time-to-pressure versus Sweat. I was most surprised that he thinks Hendrickson is only going to get $25-30mil/yr. That makes him much more affordable than the $40mil/yr I was expecting at which point I'm a hard no. Hendrickson is not that good on run defense but he's not horrible. DGB also proposed trading Montez Sweat just to unload the cap hit. Sweat might garner a day 3 pick but again it's just about finding cap room. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCze5MncpaE Since that video was posted someone else showed up saying Crosby is not going to garner as much trade value as Parsons. The Raiders are not likely to get a top 15 first round pick. This essentially puts the DJ Moore + 2026 1st Rd pick for Crosby back on the table. Then I now see that Bradley Chubb just got released and once he clears waives he can sign with any team. All these options are on the table along with a strong DE draft. Which is good news for a buyer like the Bears.
