    Cap Moves

I saw someone did the math and if we restructure DJ, Sweat, and Jarrett would give us 33 mil in Cap space. Also 14 mil with Thuney and Jackson. With cutting Edmunds that gives us 62 mil in Cap space. That should give us plenty to work with. You could also give Kmet a new extension for a few years and lower his cap hit for this year. Another option is cutting or trading JJ after June 1st that would be a 9 mil Dead money and 15.5 mil in Cap. Resign Wright and move on.

    Rumors

You do make some good points. After 2027 someone may pay him too much for us to keep him. We can resign Keenum as our backup and get something out of him. You know I'm always positioning for players we have on the roster but this may be an opportunity. Caleb has proven to be durable so why develop a 2nd QB? If we can get a third and maybe switch draft positions in the 2nd round? Would you do it?
  4. When you have a DL that can't get a pass rush and generates bad rush defense that will reflect on both LBers play. Agree his tackles are downfield but the scheme has a lot to do with coverage responsibility. I'm not trying to defend his worth because he has never lived up to his contract but as last year, he had 9 PDs and 4 picks playing in limited games with injuries. He has some playmaker abilities that count for something. He's going to be gone so I guess I'm trying to beat a dead horse here. Do you want a LB picked high or resign Demarco Jackson to fill his spot? We may be able to find a FA LBer to replace him but odds of us getting a TJ Edwards type of contract are slim and would have to overpay. I saw Quay Walker name dropped, a FA from GB but wonder what he would cost. Another option would be Sewell or Hyppolite. Last year neither showed anything.

  6. no, youre right about this, Edmunds was terrible for us. Often in the wrong gap, losing guys in coverage. He's got elite traits, but he isnt much of a football player.
  7. I think you have to back into this. I'd start here: Bagent is under contract for the next two years. He's probably the best backup in the league. If Caleb gets hurt, Bagent can keep the season going until Caleb returns. That's worth a lot to us. Bagent will also want a chance to start somewhere, so you can assume that he will leave us after the 2027 season. So the first question is whether we'd keep him for 2027, or trade him to get some value. I think either makes sense, but I think trading him then is a good likelihood, rather than letting him walk after 2027 for nothing. So now the question is, would you let him go this year, a year early? If the price is right of course he is on the table. None of us would argue with trading him for 3 first rounders (which would never happen), for example, so it's not that he isnt tradeable, but what matters is the price. I dont see us letting him go for a 3rd rounder. He is worth too much to us, especially a year early. I think the floor that we might consider is a 2nd rounder, and honestly, given the importance of the position, his skills (he might be the 20th or 25th best QB in the league?) and the fact that it's a year early means that we should probably be looking for a first rounder if we are going to move him this year. That might seem a bit steep, but he is worth a lot to us too. If someone wants to trade us a first rounder this year for him, Id listen, otherwise Im waiting for 2027 to entertain 2nd and 3rd round picks as offers.
  8. Say Bagent got 4 games on tape under BJ if Caleb got gurt, think he would still garner a 3rd? How much would it cost the Bears to replace their backup QB, not a unknown draft pick that would take time to train, but a QB that wouldnt drop off the Bears chances to win.
  9. I may look at things differently, but seriously don't see it. I've never seen a defensive scheme that rated a LB as average when they made 90% of their tackles, laterally, 3+ yards passed the LOS. If I'm wrong, I'll accept it.
  10. It's crazy how teams can draft so well, but still suck so bad. CLE, NO, NYG, TEN, and NYJ were all brutally bad yet had great drafts. Most of those teams have been drafting in the top 15 for a decade too.
  11. No, the only time you get a comp pick is if they leave as a UFA.
  12. I was looking at draft buzz prospects and looked back at 2025. At the 22 nd ranked prospect was Burden, 24 Loveland, 81 Ozzy, 82 Shermar Turner, and Monangai was 219. Turner was an incomplete but the rest were above their draft value. I would say Newman could end up being a future starter which makes this a hell of a draft.

    Rumors

I heard today that AZ Cardinals are interested in Bagent. ( Probably bullsh**). So the question is if we could get a 3 Rd pick for him, would you trade him? The story suggested a 2nd but that seems unrealistic. I think this year they keep the offensive players together for continuity issues. Maybe one might be gone but majority so we can go be aligned to have the best offense in the league. Every time a player becomes available a bunch of pundits have them coming to the bears. Poles never lets information out so when say, they have sources, bullsh**.
  14. Does anyone know if we get a comp pick if he signs somewhere else? I think he could get a 8 to 10 mil contract.
  15. The other teams know what we do about his play and contract and a team hoping they can extend him to lower his pay is gambling he would bend. I think he only accepts an extension for the Bears, imo.
  16. Yeah the no brainers need to start soon so they can get a better idea on what their true cap is.
  17. yeah it's really a no brainer. The question is, will anyone trade for him? He'd have to pre-agree to a smaller deal, and multiple teams would need to be interested. I still think the price would be extremely low, like a 6th or a 7th, but that's the only possible thing standing in the way of cutting him right now. I guess if you cut him, it could figure into compensatory picks for 2027, but this is all nit picking. We're gonna just cut him soon because he's not good, and we gain $15M on the cap. There's no mystery LOL
  18. I seen a beat writer or x writer post something yesterday. It's one of the only musts just to get to cap.
  19. He has never been worth the contract he got but he hasn't been a bad player. Until he got hurt he led the team in Ts besides the interceptions. Never was the same after the injury. We can get equal play with less cost but saying he was the reason we had a bad rushing defense is a little bit of a stretch. A few games we had 6 starters out and a constant list of injured players through out the year. I think we can save the 15 mil and pay Demarco Jackson 5 mil and get the same production.
  20. Totally agree. I mean, he'll sign SOMEWHERE for a LOT less, but I don't imagine anyone is gonna trade for him, or pay him much either.
  21. I'll be greatly surprised if anyone wants him. The only reason he was getting any attention is because of the early season interceptions. They literally fell into his lap. If anyone wants to know why our run defense sucked, look at him as a prime suspect.
  22. That's the logical conclusion for opening up some Cap space. Some pundits have suggested because he is young they may just re-sign him to lower his Cap cost this year. He was having his best year under DA, still young and DA may want to keep him. I think we should resign Demarco Jackson and try to trade him. 15 mil cost for a vet above average LB is not out of line.
  23. I think Tremaine Edmunds is going to get cut soon. Whether we cut him or trade him, whether before or after June 1st, the result is the same. We will open up $15M in Salary Cap space. Of course I'd rather get something for him, even a 7th rounder, but if a team trades for him, they'll be on the hook for the $15M this year, and I don't see anyone paying him that much. It's possible if two (or more) teams want him AND can restructure him in a longer term deal to something more appropriate, then maybe we could get some value in trade, but I think it's much more likely that teams will just wait for us to cut him. There's no real benefit in waiting, and we will want that cap space when the league year starts in a few weeks, so I think it's predictable that he'll be cut soon. I don't claim any inside info reports from media sources or anything like that, but all those facts just kinda line up to an outcome?

    Cap Moves

He can't handle the NB spot for sure but as a SS he can hold down the spot until a rookie gets developed. Surely cheaper than bringing Brisker back.

    My guys

There is a value for every draft pick. Don't draft a 3rd value in the first or 7th in the 5th. Someone like Burden who had first round talent fell to the second. Poles and BJ will figure it out.
