Who is your guy?
Caleb Downs. He closes so fast on run plays he'd make Brisker look like he's waiting at a bus stop. Safeties that can line up 10-15 yards deep and still make the play around the LOS are game changers. We saw what Kyle Hamilton did against us last year. On top of that he's got the coverage ability for either man or zone. I like Ruben Bain but arm length issue is real and one place it shows up is his 20% missed tackle rate. He's a hustle player who does not have elite athleticism. On pass rushes he's learned how to keep OT hands off him but that all gets more challenging in the NFL because the OTs are faster and longer. You have to match that with what he'll be able to do as a run defender and I'd gladly take Darnell Wright on him all day long. In the end I just don't see him as an elite 3-down edge defender. I think he'll have good sack production which fans focus on but defensive coordinators know the first order of business is to get the offense into 3rd and long.

I hope they bring in more. They need to find a long term solution, no more center shuffle.

Who is your guy?
Better not draft Micah Parsons, he has short arms. If a guy can play, and Bain can, I dont care of he has 20" arms lol🦖 If a small school prospect has short arms, pass.

Who is your guy?
I was trying to get more information on the arm length thing and saw where Matt Miller from ESPN sain no edge rusher drafted in the first round since 1999 had under 31" arms. The teams seemed to be united on arm length for edge players. Micah Parsons were 31 1/2" Bain is under 31".

Who is your guy?
I saw a podcast where they were talking about edge with short arms. There are no hall of famers edge that has short arms. Not my stat and I never checked that statement.

I didn't realize he was a T in college. He played center in high school. Him and Trey Juhn both played T in college. Trey did have 150 snaps at center last year. There's probably 12 draftable Cs in this years draft. BJ wants a smart center so I would expect the one we drive would have been interviewed. Hecht, Burton and now Parker are in that group.

Who is your guy?
I like this guy. He explains the arm issue with Bain as well.

Who is your guy?
Arm length scares me for Bain. Everything else is off the charts, but the 3rd shortest arms for a DE in combine history? Yikes.

He makes a ton of sense IMO given the offseason focus on speed. I’m of the opinion that CB is (or should be) very much in play as early as the first given that our CBs are pretty much all question marks due to performance and/or coming off injured seasons. Also add Brian Parker from Duke to the visits list. College tackle that looks like a center convert, similar to what Graham Barton did coming out of Duke. In playing the middle rounds where we will probably get a center at some point.

Mock Drafts
That's a home run draft.

Up until this week, I didn't think CB was in play but if you can get a guy who plays NB, CB and S . I'm in. Treydan Stukes can do that with 4.33 speed. Doubt if he makes it to the first round but would be a great pick later.

Who is your guy?
Id say Edge Reuben Bain or S Caleb Downs And realistically, Edge Gabe Jacas or S Dillon Thienemen I dont mean to copy you guys, but you did get it right. Could be a surprise CB or LT too.
-
Who is your guy?
Sign me up for a Bain Banger and Dillion Doer. Third would be Avil Reese.

Who is your guy?
I officially hate you. Those are my guys!

Mock Drafts
One month out draft with trades. This is also a RAS draft as all these guys ranked in the top except the DT.
-
Who is your guy?
Rueben Bain DE would be my "dream" pick. Dillion Thienemen S would be my realistic pick. I dont think they go DT first and then the DEs should be strong to go rd2

Who is your guy?
If you could draft ANY player from this draft, who would it be? (Regardless of pick selection). I'll reveal mine later.

He was one of my early on favorites before I learned DA likes to run two 3Ts or wide fronts. That led me to looking at past Saints rosters and noticed the smaller profile DTs. I mentioned it here a couple weeks ago and this week I hear it on the radio and podcasts. It makes me think Bear content creators creep in this forum for our Intel. I dont think we take DT round 1 with FA signings, it will be edge, safety, corner or trade down.

Interesting that the Bears had a top 30 visit with DT Kayden McDonald from Ohio State. That doesn’t really fit the traditional Dennis Allen DT mold since he’s more of a big run stuffer than the smaller quicker guys he has seemed to prefer in the past but given the Bears issues stopping the run last year I wouldn’t be opposed. Plus he’s supposed to be pretty quick for his size.

My guys
I believe he'll be there in the second and would be shocked if he's a first. Jacas is a mid 2nd or 3rd pick from my movie eye. Kenneth Grant was a guy a bunch here were high on last year. I didn't think he was a first rounder and the hype machine got him drafted at 13. And the dude graded out as the second worst pick in the draft. Just say, a blind squirrel found that nut. Jacas is that nut, this year. Admittedly, the blind squirrel is right more often than I.

I agree with all of this. Of course i hope every player we have has a sudden rebirth and becomes amazing, but I cant believe it until it happens of course. This is the year to see if Poles and our staff can find Defensive Linemen. I feel better about it with Ben Johnson and Dennis Allen, but let's see who we pick. All in all though, while I dont see a top 10 defense here, I do see a major upgrade from where we were, so that's good. I love Bryant and Bush for sure.

Yeah, it's a tough balancing act especially when they get hurt because now you are stuck with them for probably one year too many.

I agree. I hope he works out because Poles track record on the DLine has been sus. Dexter doesn't look like he will be getting a 2nd contract. Pickens was a bust. Odeyingbo is trending that way as an FA. Jarrett is probably over the hill. Sweat was solid, but was always a high-end DE2, and not really a consistent DE1. Billings was great then terrible.

Agreed. Im not putting a ceiling on him, Im just saying I need to see it on the field first. I cant pencil him in as an upgrade until I see it? But i don't expect him to become someone that offenses fear, not right away anyway?

It's crazy what free agents can do to help in hinder the growth of a team. Dayo and Jarrett were terrible signings that were supposed to help in year one, but will negatively affect for the second year in a row.
