  2. Admittedly I haven’t watched a lot of Minny ball outside of their game against Chicago. But I feel they are paper tigers and destined for a big fall soon. There was no question Chicago should have beat them when they played each other and would’ve had Caleb not gone down.

BJ confirms Kmet is done for the year and “effectively put on IR. https://bearswire.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/bears/2026/10/23/bears-ben-johnson-talks-cole-kmet-season-ending-injury/92399910007/
  5. No need to declare as a receiver if he's not catching a pass. That's why it was illegal to handoff forward instead of backward. I think "the Fumbleruski" put an end to that.
  6. Yeah I was looking at that. I couldn't quite make it out in the couple quick replays I watched but it appeared he did line up as the third lineman out there, as if he was intending to be an eligible receiver, but maybe he forgot to declare? Or does he have to declare regardless of it being a forward handoff or a forward pass? Maybe Johnson didn't know the intricacies of the rule and assumed that if he wasn't getting a pass he didn't need to declare? 🤷‍♂️

Yep, his season % went up to 55.3%, absolutely bonkers. Penix is the only one close at 46.7%, Hurts at 40.0%, then Watson at 37.8%. Newton was at 44.8%, so now only Penix is within 10% in the NGS Era.
  8. adam replied to jason's topic in Bearstalk
Yeah sucks for the longest-tenured Bear. At first I thought it was the helmet to the kneecap, but watching the replay, it was the step before that did it, non-contact, ACL and probably more. Season-ending IR and probably not back until August.
  9. Mongo3451 replied to jason's topic in Bearstalk
It's wild. I've watched it over and over. The injury happened when he started going low. It was very slight. Knees can be tricky that way.
  10. ASHKUM BEAR replied to jason's topic in Bearstalk
I think they said on the radio his knee buckled before the defenders went low to tackle him. Hope for the best. Maybe they elevate Hayden Large, rookie UDFA from Iowa.

When he grabbed his knee I said he was done for the year. Likely ACL. Just looked like that type of injury to me. Hope I’m wrong.
  12. Good: Williams- looked like a young Aaron Rodgers these last two games Gordon- elite football instincts, continues to look exceptional rushing the passer Burden- starting to look like a #1 receiver, no idea why he got 0 targets in the second half, though 4th quarter redemption for Santos & Odunze- as frustrating as Odunze can be, he does seem to make critical catches in big moments Bad: Jaylon Johnson- totally unplayable, have to find a replacement before deadline Defensive execution- atrocious end of half tackling, followed by a near repeat of the Packers game in the 2nd half, allowing 1st downs on nearly every pass completion. Quick notes: Absolutely huge win going in to the SEA game. 2 of their next 3 are against TB and NE, meaning there's no excuse not to be—at least—7-3 or better heading into the Thanksgiving game. SEA has to play KC this week, and their offense doesn't look very good right now. It'll be tough, but the Bears could absolutely beat them next week with the way the quarterback is playing. Ryan Poles MUST make trades as soon as he possibly can to fix this defense before it loses them a game. The Bears were up 27-14, but it should have been 27-7 before the Patriots touched the ball again in the 2nd half had it not been for that horrendously executed end of half sequence by the defense, which completely ruined the momentum the offense had been building with that touchdown by Burden. Those are plays that will get them beat at some point if Poles waits too long to make something happen. This offense is too good, and this QB is too good to not be in all-in mode right now.
  13. If Thuney declares as eligible, then it can be done forward. What this sort of implies is handoffs forward should be considered passes, because that is sort of the rule they are enforcing. An eligible receiver can receive a forward pass, but a lineman can only receive it laterally or behind.
  14. From what I learned listening to the officials, they can hand off to a lineman but it can’t be a forward handoff. Has to be back. I think to Mongos point, if you’re gonna call trick plays at his level, Johnson should be sure he knows the rules. He looked dumbfounded when they called the penalty. I did too but I’m sitting at home on my couch.
  15. No, I love some trickery. But, not on 2nd and 3 inside the ten. (Especially, when you don't know the rules of the penalized play). There's a reason why our TD rate inside the ten is the lowest in the NFL. Ben being cute. He's cost us four TD's so far.

Bears have 11 days between games. SEA, their next opponent, plays on Sunday Night Football, so the Bears will have a full +3 days of rest advantage. Typically, it is closer to 2.5 when teams playing at noon on Sunday. So the Bears get the longest possible rest advantage outside of a real bye week that you can get. Thru the first 7 weeks, the Bears are 5-2, and have weathered the storm of injuries. They are 13th in Passing Offense, 2nd in Rushing Offense, and 5th in Total Offense. On defense, they are 20th against the Pass, surprisingly 6th against the run, and 11th overall. They are also 8th in Scoring Offense and Scoring Defense. Right now there are 4 teams in the top 10 for Scoring Offense and Defense: SF, JAX, KC, and CHI. Pretty good company, a combined record of 19-4. The good news is only one of those teams is on their remaining schedule: JAX in Week 13 (in CHI). After the SEA game, the Bears get TB, their real bye, then NO. At a minimum, that should be 7-3 with a shot at 8-2. In that same window, MIN has @DET, BUF, @GB, and @SF. At best, that is probably 8-2, but could easily be 6-4 with 3 tough road games and BUF at home. So either way the Bears could be headed to DET for Thanksgiving in 1st place in the North. The crazy part is the NFC North champ will almost assuredly play one of the other NFC North teams in the Wild Card round. The sweet spot seems to be the 5th or 6th seed as those teams will play the NFC East Division winner (currently NYG at 3-2-1) or the NFC South winner (currently CAR at 3-2). The #2 Seed is more than likely going to be the NFC North winner who would play the #7 seed which is currently DET, and projected to be GB again.
  17. we are missing a lot of plays by not utilizing the plays across the middle especially in slowing down blitz's. tipped balls? then they need to seriously fix that problem if it exists. it works like a charm against us yet we never use it in our arsenal. we need to seriously work on who is picking up blitz's and also caleb needs to sit down with keenum to figure out HOW to get quick releases out from these blitz's to make them pay and stop taking the sacks or throwing it away. blitzing is killing us. and on the subject of ryan poles... this guy is terrible. the ONLY defensive free agent player i can think of that was a good pickup was byard and of course he is gone. on offense the two guards and possibly swift for players still on the roster. that is it. the decent ones he dumps and keeps the mediocre players forever. add to this that BJ is probably the key in picking up these players. also we have wasted a multitude of 1st-3rd round picks with few exceptions like burden and possibly thieneman.
  18. The only thing I can think of for the slants over the middle is they are concerned about tipped passes because 5-15 yards inside the numbers seemed to have a ton of space and no routes were going there. That also feels like where Raymond had routes and he has rarely been targeted over the last few games. I would say, the fact that the Bears are 5-2 with one loss in a monsoon and one loss with Bagent starting is a great sign. It also feels like the Offensive Line is not as sharp as they were last season, for whatever reason. Bradbury vs Dalman maybe? CHI QBs have the most pressures against thru 7 games. Caleb's sack numbers are double what they were last year. You can attribute some of that to his injury, but not all of it.
  19. adam replied to adam's topic in Bearstalk
Caleb is also now 19-19 as a starter and for the first time has a positive career EPA. He has been digging himself out of the hole from his rookie season. Career EPA now +0.6 lol.
  20. adam replied to adam's topic in Bearstalk
TNF was a great comparison for the 3rd year QBs, both are really good and the top 2 of their class, and it is no longer even a discussion. It feels like it is now Caleb 1a, Drake 1b, then any other order of Nix, Daniels, McCarthy. Here are Caleb's numbers for the 3 games he finished: 73-98, 74.5%, 882 YDS, 9.0 Y/A, 5 TD, 0 INT For an entire season, that is 5K Passing yards and close to 30 Passing TDs. Caleb is the only QB in NFL history to throw for >8,500 yards, >50 TDs, <20 INTS, and rush for >1,000 yards in their first 38 games. Basically we are at a point where every start, he re-writes the record for that amount of games.
  21. if this were preseason and jj was a walkon he wouldn't even make the practice squad. he is total toast. no desire and PUP possibly but that doesn't excuse the unwillingness to tackle. anyone right now is a better choice at CB than him. trade value? if we could get a practice squad TE that would be a windfall. after first quarter, defense reverted to same ole, same ole. also you can't keep blitzing gordon over and over to no gain. that has been figured out. mixing it up with thieneman was ok. for whatever reason our defense CAN'T stop the quick over the middle throws for 8-12 yards. no defender within 5 full yards for an easy catch just like packers have done to us for decades. speaking of defense? any bears coach that puts his defense into prevent mode deserves to be slapped. the only thing a prevent defense prevents is a win. also, how can our DL stop the run in the first quarter and look so bad in the rest of the game? personnel or game plan? still some crap calls in the red zone by our coach. he needs to get his head our of his arse although I have to admit i didn't see any 3rd or 4th and short runs out of the shotgun or going for it on 4th down in our side of the field. so maybe he has learned something. santo's? he is hot and cold and that doesn't bode well for us. he has been that way since we acquired him. we need to look for someone who can consistently hit from 50+ in this day and age of the NFL's 60+ yd field goals. anyone see how ozzie looked tonight? didn't concentrate on him. i know he was rotated in and out. seemed like RG jackson is still recovering from his injury. the time off should help a lot. not sure who was supposed to pick up all the blitzer's but not a great job at that or scheming for the quick outs. caleb was holding the ball too long for the amount of blitz's thrown at us. that sack at the end while we were in field goal range almost cost us the game. that was totally on caleb not getting rid of the ball. again i want to ask, why are we not seeing slants over the middle for a quick release to our big body TE's or big receivers especially when they are blitzing our arse off? i'll take the win but god, what an ugly game. should have beat them by 20+ yet almost blew it to lose. EDIT: what kind of play was that goal line handoff to our LG? i have never seen somthing like that in my life. what was the flag about? didn't get any of that.
  22. Cam Lewis is terrible, on par with Jaylon. Those two are huge liabilities. All the opposing team has to do is see where one of those guys are and target them. Another game like the ATL game where it was way closer than it needed to be. That 7 pts at the end of the half allowed them to kick the FG and go for 2, so that is 10 pts off the board for NE, and the missed FG for Santos. Should've been 33-16. This is the 3rd game this season where the opponent scored 23+ and the Bears won, that is a good sign for the offense, but as well as the defense played in the first 20 mins of the game, we need a complete game from them. Too many TDs being scored.
  23. AZ54 replied to adam's topic in Bearstalk
Speaking of blitz rate i just heard the Patriots blitzed on 60% of the plays tonight.
  24. I think it was just that one s series. 7 plays IIRC.
  25. Unc and Ocho are ripping on Cam Lewis because on the last play of the first half he owned the RB. Instead he decided to get greedy and blitz. They said he knew he messed up and that’s why he was chasing him all the way down the field. I remember seeing him doing that. Still doesn’t excuse Jaylon’s weak effort.
