  2. Of course he could be cut or traded . If he gets hurt or plays bad the backups will get the chance to show what they can do. I could see more of a question with Thuney as he will be 35 after this year as far as moving on but only if they have a replacement ready. He will only cost 5 mil against the cap where Jackson costs 10 mil in dead cap. If they are healthy and playing well, I dont see them moving on from either until after the 2027 season when they have to pay Caleb.
  3. ASHKUM, you did the calculation wrong, we would gain $13M. And that just makes your point all the stronger anyway.
  4. Yesterday
  5. I only said they could cut or trade him in 2027, which they could.. Why, he gets paid 23 million. Why they probably won't is they only gain 3 million. But because he had a good year doesnt mean the next guy wont make it better and be cheaper. They will add and subtract players and we will see who in 8 months or so.
  6. Amagadje might go to OG too. From what I've read he is a tremendous specimen and just couldnt stay healthy. Of course thats all talk until we see it on the field, and i wouldnt be surprised if he went to OG -OR- didnt make the team - either is possible. But hes a sleeper.
  7. So is this what you think the Bears are planning to do or just your opinion that is what they should do? According to this chart in the NYT we had the best OL last year. I thought maybe top 5 but this says #1. How long has it been since we had a good line? I cant remember the last time and you want to start dumbing assets after this year? https://nfllines.com/nfl-2025-final-comparative-offensive-line-rankings/ I think Luke Newman will be a eventual starter but not sure it will be 2027. He had 25 snaps last year. I also think The Vanilla Gorilla could make the 53 man roster or PS but he has yet to take a snap in the NFL. We have questions at LT of which Braxton Jones could be starting with Ozzy coming back towards the middle of the year. Dalman retired and we have a average vet and rookie to fill that spot. If everything goes right, Jones will at least be the starter towards the late season or next season. Injuries or bad play can clearly change what happens in 2027 but as of right now , we should still have a top 5 OL. Jackson played well last year (19th out of 81) and assume the same this year. He was third in the league in snaps. (healthy all year) If not injured where is Newman or Barrett getting snaps? According to OTC we have 31 mil in cap space for 2027. I think Dayo, Garrett, and TJ Edwards will be gone because of the assets we have behind them and their average play. Those 3 give us 37 mil more cap space. As of now Jackson is 29 and Thuney is 34. Wright will make 19 mil with his 5th year option. Jones and Ozzy will be on rookie contracts. We will need to add DTs in 27 because the only ones on the roster will be Gallimore, and soon to be signed van den Berg and I suspect Lovings. We have LBers in place to be able to let Edwards walk. How much cap money will we need? I think 68 mil will be enough as we add another draft class. As of now for 2027 we have Trapilo-Thuney-Jones-Jackson-Wright, backups signed are Amegadjie and Newman. I think Barrett, Jones plus bring back Theo and McFadden for 27. I dont see Braxton being back and maybe Kiran if he doesnt improve. We will need a backup C of which Newman could fill that role. Just because I dont see them getting rid of Jackson after 2026 doesnt mean Im in love with him, logic tells me we are not going into 2027 with Ozzy (coming off an injury, a 35 year old Thuney, a first year starting C and Newman or Barrett thrown into the RG role.

I’d like to see him at OG this year.
  9. Mongo3451 replied to adam's topic in Bearstalk
    Add Benedet to the list.
  10. he always wants to keep every player "why would we give away someone good?" and of course that kind of thinking leads to having an older than average team that has cap issues. hes a fan, but not much of a GM I think.
  11. So your are telling me you have a Jonah Jackson jersey...ugh 23 million is a lot for a right guard for 2027. If they have Newman or Barnett developed into a starter quality by 2027, then they could look to move him like Cole Kmet. Poles will be making moves and yes I expect a few defensive guys to go too but no one is safe if you have options behind them that you feel good with. That is one way to keep them good longer.
  12. If you watch tape on Squirrel, like you said, he runs away from people. The tape never lies. Running a 40 while being injured probably isnt the most accurate depiction of his true speed. We get to watch during rookie camp starting on Friday.
  13. Jonah Jackson played very well last year. Not sure they start dumping good players because they have someone backing them up that hasnt proven anything in the NFL. The fact they redid his contract to get more cap space tells me , he is one they are keeping around. Next year there are plenty of players they can cut to make cap space that hasnt played well. Now after the 2027 season, I can see the prospects being groomed to take over for older vets that the Bears have ending their contract.
  14. Actually his cap number next year is like $23M, with $10M dead cap thats a savings of over $13M on the cap! So that makes your point all the more. And Newman is waiting in the wings too.
  15. VG scored a perfect 10 RAS which is amazing, and Ive never seen anyone do that before? Both his parents were pro athletes. He is the definition of a project right now, which fits the roster, Roushar will get a toy to play with, and who knows what he might become? But youre right ASHKUM, the idea here is who might he be next year or the year after?
  16. Id say by the amount the Bears paid him, he will stick around. I haven't seen any of his tape but hope if he was a heavily targeted player that coach Roushar sees potential to mold him into the future RG. Jonah Jackson could be a cap casualty after 2026 season costing 10 mil dead cap but 13 mil savings. Might not be worth the 3 million gain, but possible.
  17. Mongo3451 replied to adam's topic in Bearstalk
The VG seems like that European guy we had on the practice squad a couple of years ago. Not a fluid mover.
  18. The PCL sprain was something he said he was dealing with from the 2024 season, which carried into the spring of 2025. He was never officially clocked for that 4.28 40 time, but wore the Catapult System in 2023 and was recorded hitting 23.4 mph. He was not a combine invite but a FSU pro-day ran 4.63. His testing and measurables are bad, but why not take a look at him and see if by fall he improves because he was a phenom his sophomore year at Tennessee. We can now put the Squirrel to rest and look at the Vanilla Gorilla because the TTNL guy, Phil, said he was one of the few linemen he wanted the Bears to draft.
  19. Last week
  20. there is no reputable source that he ran a 4.28 - he would have been drafted if that were true. Just because a media narrative catches fire does not mean it is true. We've seen that over and over. 4.6 is fast enough for a WR if they run good routes. Keenan Allen was around a 4.6 - but you cant call him a speed receiver, it's just not true.
  21. Mongo3451 replied to adam's topic in Bearstalk
Eye test, during game play, says he's very fast. The 4.6 was on a strained PCL. More info is out on the 4.28 than the other.
  22. Just for the record, a 4.6+ 40 isnt a "speed guy"
  23. He's a speed guy that will get a chance to compete for a spot, probably end up on the PS, as far as a long term asset, very doubtful. At a time when the draft has settled in, just something to talk about.
  24. yup, and hes going to be a stud for us when hes ready. Maybe right away, maybe after a bit, but we wont need as many cute trick and pass plays for 3rd and 1 when hes in there.
  25. Interesting and the Bears were correct to draft Jones where they did. https://www.profootballrumors.com/2026/05/ravens-gm-eric-decosta-discusses-center-need-team-could-trade-for-c#ref=home
  26. exactly - thank for for sharing that!
  27. I dont think I've ever selected him, but recall looking at his profile. I wanted elite speed at RB or WR
  28. I hope he can learn all the WR positions and the complete route tree since he could be moved all over the field. I was shocked to see the academics honor, gives me a better feeling about his potential.
