Round 2, Pick 57, Logan Jones, C
yes to all of that. I dunno if Jones will be ready to start the season, but all those stars certainly do seem to align.

Round 2, Pick 57, Logan Jones, C
This is too funny. With Declan Doyle in Baltimore presumably to setup some form of Ben Johnson's offense it's pretty clear what type of player they want at Center. Of course the whole Linderbaum saga, Iowa Hawkeyes (hate 'em but respect 'em), Logan Jones being his replacement seems all too perfect. Prior to the draft Baltimore did nothing to shore up the position and kudos to Poles because he wasn't waiting. As soon as Dalman retired, a mere 3 days later, he took out an insurance policy to protect his star QB via trade for Bradbury. Again, getting ahead of the Ravens. Draft day comes along and at 57 the Bears just grab their guy. Poles knew exactly who the Ravens and Declan were targeting. The internet world goes nuts because Jones is a 3rd Rd value at best and we suck or something like that. Poles and Johnson don't care because in their eyes what is the value in protecting your QB? Plus the value of having the right Center to execute the type of running plays that challenge a defense sideline to sideline. Declan must be wondering what he got himself into. Lamar Jackson must be wondering if he can get more money for having to play behind some no-name center. Now Lamar Jackson's strengths as a QB do not line up with Caleb's so I doubt Declan will be heavily mimicking all of Ben's plays. I think the passing game will be more simplified with less read options. Still, there has to be some component where he wanted a mobile center to help stretch the field in the running game. Plus at a minimum you need a guy who can hold up in pass pro for a few seconds because pressure right up the middle is a killer for any QB. https://www.si.com/nfl/ravens/onsi/one-trade-the-baltimore-ravens-should-still-be-pushing-after-the-draft-01kqfpkykg3r "Bradbury would be a great fit in the outside zone scheme the Ravens are expected to heavily implement under new offensive coordinator Declan Doyle and run game coordinator Dwayne Ledford."

NFC North Offseasons
In the meantime, we are the only team beginning year two of the BJ and Caleb show...

NFC North Offseasons
"Moore's targets are going to Burden, Odunze, Loveland, Thomas, Raymond, and Roush. So not all of Moore has to be replaced by a rookie" Add Kmet, Walker, Swift and Monigai and his receptions split out even moore. If they Bears do run moore 12 and 13 personal, will they notice.

NFC North Offseasons
Without considering the draft picks, which right now seem to favor the Bears, it seems like every other NFC North team got worse this offseason. GB lost 2 guys on their O-Line, plus Quay Walker, Rashan Gary, and Wicks and Doubs at WR. At some point in the last few years both Doubs and Wicks were anointed as WR1s. GB's big add, Javon Hargrave who was subpar last year in a MIN defense that was really good. They traded for Zaire Franklin, who is a less dynamic Quay Walker. They also lost Malik Willis who was arguably the best QB2 in the NFL. So to me, they will take a step back. They also lost their DC. DET lost Monty, Decker, Glasgow, Reader, and Raymond and only added Cade Mays at Center. They also added Pacheco but he does not get the dirty yards that Monty got. They seem to be taking another step back. Another team that expects to get better from within. MIN lost Greenard, Kelly, Hargrave, Allen, and Harrison Smith. That defense will not be the same, and they still have 9 at QB. Their big add was Eric Wilson at LB? What am I missing here? How are they winning 8 games? The Bears may not have gotten substantially better on paper, but they didn't get worse. Byard Brisker becomes Bryant Thieneman, which should be an overall upgrade. Edmunds to Bush is an upgrade. The two biggest losses outside of the guys already mentioned are Moore and Dalman. Dalman was literally replaced by 2 guys, and Moore's targets are going to Burden, Odunze, Loveland, Thomas, Raymond, and Roush. So not all of Moore has to be replaced by a rookie.

Round 2, Pick 57, Logan Jones, C
I think it clearly points to they wanted Jones because BJ values C a great deal. If Jacas was there, I think they would have taken Jones at 60. The chance at him going at 58 or 59 was in their favor. I have been seeing rumors of which I think are all pundit generated , is if Jones is outstanding, trade Bradbury to the Ravens who lost Lindenbaun and didnt appear to replace him. Doubt they do that but they have Newman to backup Jones that they were talking about moving to C before Dalman retired.

My hope and theory
I would say anyone they gave money to as UDFAs is because they had several teams recruiting him. This year is set on the OL unless injures pop up then backups get a chance. If Willis and Braxton hold up at LT, Kiran could be moved to one of the guards and well as Theo. Every year is going to be a restart but I dont think they have plans of who they will get rid of going into 2027. Now if Caleb has a great year then I could see them giving him an extension in 27 and they may have to move several good players.

My hope and theory
He is working on something and I believe if we didn't package our 2 - 7ths to move up for the DT, we would have drafted him. Have to be ready for injuries, retirements or salary cuts

Round 2, Pick 57, Logan Jones, C
I think Jacas and Jones were their top 2 guys at 57, Jacas goes at 55, so you could with C#1 at 57. It does make sense. I guess the only argument you could make is trading back from 57 to get more in return than 60, but then you risk getting sniped at 58 and 59.

My hope and theory
I think that's spot on.

My hope and theory
The fact we paid $300k to a UDFA OG tells me we’re looking for a way out of that contract. That doesn’t mean the UDFA is the plan. It means Poles is throwing multiple darts at the target hoping to hit on one.
-
My hope and theory
yeah and it just makes your point that much stronger
-
My hope and theory
hahahaha thats likely LOL

My hope and theory
Long day at work...at first I read that as he's going to go from OG to IR. And I said.. yep.

My hope and theory
I would extend Thuney another year or two. His play hasnt declined and all you hear are players wanting to play next to him to gain knowledge. He is not only a top 3 Guard, but one of your biggest recruiters. This is nothing the Bears need to consider until the end of the year. Then I can say you heard it here first haha. Also, they will be extending Caleb this year unless he craps the bed. Poles is already working on that.
-
My hope and theory
I messed that up, but you are correct 10 in dead and in 13 savings. Jackson would be the 3rd highest paid member of the Bears
-
My hope and theory
Of course he could be cut or traded . If he gets hurt or plays bad the backups will get the chance to show what they can do. I could see more of a question with Thuney as he will be 35 after this year as far as moving on but only if they have a replacement ready. He will only cost 5 mil against the cap where Jackson costs 10 mil in dead cap. If they are healthy and playing well, I dont see them moving on from either until after the 2027 season when they have to pay Caleb.
-
My hope and theory
ASHKUM, you did the calculation wrong, we would gain $13M. And that just makes your point all the stronger anyway.

My hope and theory
I only said they could cut or trade him in 2027, which they could.. Why, he gets paid 23 million. Why they probably won't is they only gain 3 million. But because he had a good year doesnt mean the next guy wont make it better and be cheaper. They will add and subtract players and we will see who in 8 months or so.
-
My hope and theory
Amagadje might go to OG too. From what I've read he is a tremendous specimen and just couldnt stay healthy. Of course thats all talk until we see it on the field, and i wouldnt be surprised if he went to OG -OR- didnt make the team - either is possible. But hes a sleeper.

So is this what you think the Bears are planning to do or just your opinion that is what they should do? According to this chart in the NYT we had the best OL last year. I thought maybe top 5 but this says #1. How long has it been since we had a good line? I cant remember the last time and you want to start dumbing assets after this year? https://nfllines.com/nfl-2025-final-comparative-offensive-line-rankings/ I think Luke Newman will be a eventual starter but not sure it will be 2027. He had 25 snaps last year. I also think The Vanilla Gorilla could make the 53 man roster or PS but he has yet to take a snap in the NFL. We have questions at LT of which Braxton Jones could be starting with Ozzy coming back towards the middle of the year. Dalman retired and we have a average vet and rookie to fill that spot. If everything goes right, Jones will at least be the starter towards the late season or next season. Injuries or bad play can clearly change what happens in 2027 but as of right now , we should still have a top 5 OL. Jackson played well last year (19th out of 81) and assume the same this year. He was third in the league in snaps. (healthy all year) If not injured where is Newman or Barrett getting snaps? According to OTC we have 31 mil in cap space for 2027. I think Dayo, Garrett, and TJ Edwards will be gone because of the assets we have behind them and their average play. Those 3 give us 37 mil more cap space. As of now Jackson is 29 and Thuney is 34. Wright will make 19 mil with his 5th year option. Jones and Ozzy will be on rookie contracts. We will need to add DTs in 27 because the only ones on the roster will be Gallimore, and soon to be signed van den Berg and I suspect Lovings. We have LBers in place to be able to let Edwards walk. How much cap money will we need? I think 68 mil will be enough as we add another draft class. As of now for 2027 we have Trapilo-Thuney-Jones-Jackson-Wright, backups signed are Amegadjie and Newman. I think Barrett, Jones plus bring back Theo and McFadden for 27. I dont see Braxton being back and maybe Kiran if he doesnt improve. We will need a backup C of which Newman could fill that role. Just because I dont see them getting rid of Jackson after 2026 doesnt mean Im in love with him, logic tells me we are not going into 2027 with Ozzy (coming off an injury, a 35 year old Thuney, a first year starting C and Newman or Barrett thrown into the RG role.

My hope and theory
I’d like to see him at OG this year.
-
My hope and theory
Add Benedet to the list.
-
My hope and theory
he always wants to keep every player "why would we give away someone good?" and of course that kind of thinking leads to having an older than average team that has cap issues. hes a fan, but not much of a GM I think.

My hope and theory
So your are telling me you have a Jonah Jackson jersey...ugh 23 million is a lot for a right guard for 2027. If they have Newman or Barnett developed into a starter quality by 2027, then they could look to move him like Cole Kmet. Poles will be making moves and yes I expect a few defensive guys to go too but no one is safe if you have options behind them that you feel good with. That is one way to keep them good longer.
