Poles Press Conference from last night
Post draft press conference. Ben emphasizes that he wants players who “if you took football away from them they wouldn’t know what to do.” He’s such a psycho I love it.

This is Ben Johnson’s team
I wonder what the combined RAS is for this draft. Seems like all the guys selected were top of the chart. Last year there was some grumblings and the Bears were rated the best draft in the league. Lots of questions over Loveland, but once the training wheels were removed the guy took over games and now looked at as an all-pro talent. The defense ranked 1st in take aways, with the improved back 7, can they repeat? The D interior added speed with Galimore, Lynch, and Street to go Jarrett and Dexter. Drafting Van den Berg adds to that. I thought Sheman Turner was a 3T, but looks more like DE with the moves at the interior. He'll join Sweat, Dayo, Booker, and Hardy. We have bodies on the dline, not the blue chips we hoped for, but we can look at Thieneman and Faulks career to see if the right choice was made. Overall, the Bears added elite athletes that love football.

I was going to mention that as an international player, he wont count against the roster.

Day 3 prospects
Bears traded their two 7ths to get into the 6th and take this guy so unless they try to move back in, they are done for the day.

#213 - Jordan van den Berg, DT, Georgia Tech
Bears traded their two 7th round picks (239 and 241) to move into the end of the sixth and take this guy. Born in South Africa and grew up playing rugby. Seems like he progressed finally a bit this year. Wonder if he might qualify as an international roster exemption which can sometimes be useful with a late pick you don’t want to lose. Heard the show say he can maybe play inside and outside similar to Dayo and Shemar. Oh, and I’d say he’s a pretty good athlete . . .

Day 3 prospects
We just traded up and got Jordan van der Berg. We got DL help, ( I have no idea if he is any good. )

This is Ben Johnson’s team
This draft isnt going to be received well because of the last of prospects on the DL but I think it overall upgrades the roster. Theineman with Bryant are definite upgrade over the two starters last year. By reading the profiles Muhammad and Elliott could be eventual starters that have speed. Roush , Thomas, Jones all add to the offense .
-
Pick 89, Zavion Thomas, WR, LSU
Even without him I think our WR room will be good, with BJ, he will be a weapon that defenses have to account for that upgrades the rest of the offense. His speed demands attention. I look forward to see how the second year of this offense gets better. Raymond and Thomas add 4.34 and 4.28 speed. BJ is going to have fun.
