I will say - Drake Maye looks very good. He reminds me of Herbert. Has played some bad defenses too (like Caleb this week) but he has looked the part. -

right - this is right where he is. The pushed vs coddled thing will prove out after a couple years when those other guys are still learning, and Caleb is fully dimensional. Hes showing examples of getting it, and he needs to increase his consistency. -

I agree - I expect a lot out of him, but I don’t see Stroud or Daniel’s crushing it this year. I see a qb being pushed a ton vs coddled this year. BJ didn’t just have him doing a bunch of shotgun / read option stuff - he has him doing playing behind center a ton - something he never did in college and which required new footwork etc. That takes time. He is 12th in yards and 19th in TDs. Great - no - but awful - no. His sack rate is down a ton - YPG is up - yards per play is up a qb rating and qbr are up - all in a new system. I see more good than bad, but acknowledge he hasn’t proven shit yet - but he also flashes some real good stuff too. -

exactly. if this was the finished product for Caleb, that would be a tremendous disappointment, but I think this is just the beginning and hes already somewhere in the middle of the league as a QB. This season's mission was to increase his consistency, and learn the various tricks defenses will throw at him. We also all kind predicted we'd be on the cusp of the playoffs - and thats where we are too - all on time, but frustrating because I know we all want to see it all together already. Soon! -

I think he bought himself more time after today, but I completely disagree with you that there was zero shot had he been awful. The new system talking point can be drastically overstated by the team with the QB who's struggling. Didn't seem to affect Jayden Daniels or Bo Nix last year, or Drake Maye this year. There's a learning curve, certainly, but come on. The Bears have more offensive talent than most teams in the league. Caleb was the #1 pick. We should hold him to a higher standard than everybody else. -

I met Flacco about three days after he won his superbowl, and spent an afternoon with him on the Letterman show - he was pretty much a jerk. One of the least friendly or kind celebrities (or people) Ive ever met. Your story definitely lines up with that. Huge ego, too cool for everyone around him, not just me! Contrast with meeting Drew Brees, also on Letterman, a couple days after he won his Superbowl, and he was nicer than most anyone youd meet famous or not. Just goes to show... you never know. But he does throw a really pretty ball. -
yeah, this is definitely the thing, you were right about that, Id like to see Burden (when hes healthy) get a shot. Youre right Duvernay isnt that good - I was just pointing out the money isnt an issue, it is, as you say, about the roster spot.
-
Quinn should be fired. Down by 31 late in the 4th quarter with a QB coming back from injury and he is running the ball? Why put him at risk with no chance to win? The most amazing thing about his rookie year was avoiding injury. Hopefully he can have a speedy recovery but that looked season ending.
-
Our special teams blocking on our returns is no better than our tackling when the opposition returns. I can't say I am impressed by either group.

They have had some good games with Dart and D is still banged up pretty good. I hope you are right - would be nice to get a comfortable W - with that said - I just want them to keep improving and grinding. Play your best game of the season Chicago!!! -
Jayden Daniel's left with an arm splint. As he walked off the field they called him a superstar. Caleb won't get a crown until the Bears can become a force. They have one more game to put it together then the schedule gets tough.
-
Jayden Daniels just broke his arm or dislocated his elbow (left arm) in a very ugly manner. I admired his work ethic and willingness to take on challenges head on during his college career and then into the NFL. I don't want to see that at all but he's done for the season. Fortunately it's his non-throwing arm so he'll return next season.

I think of it more of - they are that good and Caleb is certainly a part of it - but he also has a lot more room to grow and take it up another notch - which is real exciting! This team still has lots to work through - but I expect a lot of growth this second half of the season. Not sure they make the playoffs but this team is going to learn and grow a ton this year and a foundation for sustained success will be built. -

I was glad to see some young players show up today - Loveland had some big plays and Monongai was a beast. Caleb played good - still had some misses - but plenty of good too. Defense was pretty much trash - Higgins was absurd though and Joe throwing to those wideouts with our secondary is like shooing fish in a barrel. I hope Gordon and JJ will be able to come back and play meaningful football this year. Special teams - awful everywhere. But finding a way to win and getting TDs in the red zone. Rome - I expect you to pick yourself up and have a big game next week! -

Special teams is awful. Santos is either hurt or needs to be cut. -
I understand the salary isnt much. It's him taking a roster spot when his only value is his return ability. Id rather have a player that is a 3rd RB or 4th WR, like Burden. If he was above average, sure but not sure he is even there.

Odunze is not a bust but he’s going through some struggles catching. He also is getting open all over the place - it will come together but it is frustrating. Far from a bust and I expect we will see him bounce back. Jamar Chase had some cases of the drops early in his career too. -
I think all of this is spot on.

He had barely played from center in college - Ben is having him play from center and forcing him to develop from there - but there wil be growing opportunities. Offense was quite good today which was nice - despite another couple drops from Rome. -

There is zero chance they should be looking at a qb change. Caleb is 1.5 years into his career and half a year into a new system. -
My daughter was watching the game with me today. We got a good laugh as she told my grandkids how she waited on his table at a small Mexican restaurant and he a bit surprised by the fact she wasn't enamored with him being an NFL QB. Time flies as that was likely 15 years ago. She remembered that he did leave her a $40 tip on what was likely a $60 tab. Maybe Mexican food is the secret to his longevity.

Changing culture is hard but this is not the Bears we saw the last few years under Flus. These guys are going to scratch and claw their way back into a game. "Play 60" is the NFL mantra for kids to get out and play but it does describe this Bears team under Ben Johnson. At this point any team we play knows they are going to have to match that. This bodes if we ever become good enough to get into the playoffs because you have to ride out the ups and downs in those games.
-
Media and, as evidenced over the last week, many Bears fans just do not like Caleb. We put up 47pts today and still, post game, the media was more focused on the 35pts Flacco put up. So much hinged on that fail mary from last year. Before that play it was Caleb who led the game winning drive. If you watch them as closely as we scrutinize Caleb, all of these 2nd year QBs are far from finished products. I don't know which of these 2nd year QBs will end up with the best career but I do like the progress Caleb is showing under Ben Johnson. He definitely needs to get through his progressions quicker, and clean up some fundamentals at times, but I believe that will come with more reps and familiarity within the offense.
