Bears would be smart to showcase Bagent this preseason. Of course this draft would be long gone, but we need a capable backup that can come in with little drop off in 2026.

Been watching a lot of tape on McDonald and he's a beast. Probably won't make it to 25. Had 65 Ts as a DT, that is amazing. Lee Hunter is rated as a mid to late 2nd round. He has good tape on him too . https://youtu.be/E-pRCcROhAI?si=jrdZmSNP9OspUfB3

No one is giving a first rounder for Bagent. I think they keep the offense intact for this year and upset the continuity as we become a top 3 offense in the league. A second rounder may sway them to change their mind though. Isn't there another young QB they bring into camp every year? He was from a small school and was a record setter in their division. I can't remember his name.

plus we already have two guards waiting in the wings in McFadden and Newman.

So first off, after 2027, Bagent is a free agent, and he's 100% going to a team where he can start. It's not a matter of whether we can afford him, we surely cant afford to pay him starter money, even low starter money. So he is definitely gone after 2027. If Bagent goes this year, next year or in 2028, we are going to want to find a kid to develop. Maybe even this year, in like round 5 or something. Keenum can be the QB2, but we will need his replacement. And a QB2 always seems like it doesnt matter untl your QB goes down for four weeks. You want to be able to stay in the playoff hunt during that time, so you really do want a good 2nd stringer. I would look at a 2nd or a 3rd going into 2027. But to take him now, it has to be a 1st rounder for me. Maybe a 2nd and a 4th or something like that. If a team thinks he's a starter for them, then they gotta pay something to get him, especially a year early like this. Otherwise, Id rather keep him this year. next year is a different story because hell be in his last year, so you want to get something for him before he walks.

Caleb was on Maxx Crosby's podcast which leads to speculation.

All good points. Only restructure people you want more long term. I don't think they are making a big signing this off-season,more like a Cameron Jordan or Clowney. So just enough money to resign their own FAs, rookie deals, cap space and a DL on a moderate contract.

I think Tremaine Edmunds is going to get cut soon

Edwards contract doesn't allow him to leave this year but definitely we need more speed at LB. I wouldn't mind a high pick there. -
I wouldn't touch Jarretts, his contract can be cut after this year with little dead cap. For now, I'd keep JJ and hope he regains his feet. Wright was a great FA find, but not sure his coverage was anything special. 62% passes were completed on him. Like CJ-GJ, he was a liability. Id restructure Thuney, not Jackson though, they need to have flexibility to cut players if needed to and RG is easier to find.

Honestly, our LB corps was awful last year. The DL wasn't getting blown off the ball, so who fills the hole? Edwards being hurt didn't help. It's terrible, but we need someone to do what Roquan Smith did. The linebackers should be able to diagnose the run and be at the line of scrimmage to meet the back. I would definitely draft one by the end of day two. - Yesterday

I saw someone did the math and if we restructure DJ, Sweat, and Jarrett would give us 33 mil in Cap space. Also 14 mil with Thuney and Jackson. With cutting Edmunds that gives us 62 mil in Cap space. That should give us plenty to work with. You could also give Kmet a new extension for a few years and lower his cap hit for this year. Another option is cutting or trading JJ after June 1st that would be a 9 mil Dead money and 15.5 mil in Cap. Resign Wright and move on.

You do make some good points. After 2027 someone may pay him too much for us to keep him. We can resign Keenum as our backup and get something out of him. You know I'm always positioning for players we have on the roster but this may be an opportunity. Caleb has proven to be durable so why develop a 2nd QB? If we can get a third and maybe switch draft positions in the 2nd round? Would you do it?

When you have a DL that can't get a pass rush and generates bad rush defense that will reflect on both LBers play. Agree his tackles are downfield but the scheme has a lot to do with coverage responsibility. I'm not trying to defend his worth because he has never lived up to his contract but as last year, he had 9 PDs and 4 picks playing in limited games with injuries. He has some playmaker abilities that count for something. He's going to be gone so I guess I'm trying to beat a dead horse here. Do you want a LB picked high or resign Demarco Jackson to fill his spot? We may be able to find a FA LBer to replace him but odds of us getting a TJ Edwards type of contract are slim and would have to overpay. I saw Quay Walker name dropped, a FA from GB but wonder what he would cost. Another option would be Sewell or Hyppolite. Last year neither showed anything. -

no, youre right about this, Edmunds was terrible for us. Often in the wrong gap, losing guys in coverage. He's got elite traits, but he isnt much of a football player. -
I think you have to back into this. I'd start here: Bagent is under contract for the next two years. He's probably the best backup in the league. If Caleb gets hurt, Bagent can keep the season going until Caleb returns. That's worth a lot to us. Bagent will also want a chance to start somewhere, so you can assume that he will leave us after the 2027 season. So the first question is whether we'd keep him for 2027, or trade him to get some value. I think either makes sense, but I think trading him then is a good likelihood, rather than letting him walk after 2027 for nothing. So now the question is, would you let him go this year, a year early? If the price is right of course he is on the table. None of us would argue with trading him for 3 first rounders (which would never happen), for example, so it's not that he isnt tradeable, but what matters is the price. I dont see us letting him go for a 3rd rounder. He is worth too much to us, especially a year early. I think the floor that we might consider is a 2nd rounder, and honestly, given the importance of the position, his skills (he might be the 20th or 25th best QB in the league?) and the fact that it's a year early means that we should probably be looking for a first rounder if we are going to move him this year. That might seem a bit steep, but he is worth a lot to us too. If someone wants to trade us a first rounder this year for him, Id listen, otherwise Im waiting for 2027 to entertain 2nd and 3rd round picks as offers.
-
Say Bagent got 4 games on tape under BJ if Caleb got gurt, think he would still garner a 3rd? How much would it cost the Bears to replace their backup QB, not a unknown draft pick that would take time to train, but a QB that wouldnt drop off the Bears chances to win.

I may look at things differently, but seriously don't see it. I've never seen a defensive scheme that rated a LB as average when they made 90% of their tackles, laterally, 3+ yards passed the LOS. If I'm wrong, I'll accept it. -
It's crazy how teams can draft so well, but still suck so bad. CLE, NO, NYG, TEN, and NYJ were all brutally bad yet had great drafts. Most of those teams have been drafting in the top 15 for a decade too.
-
No, the only time you get a comp pick is if they leave as a UFA.
-
I was looking at draft buzz prospects and looked back at 2025. At the 22 nd ranked prospect was Burden, 24 Loveland, 81 Ozzy, 82 Shermar Turner, and Monangai was 219. Turner was an incomplete but the rest were above their draft value. I would say Newman could end up being a future starter which makes this a hell of a draft.
-
I heard today that AZ Cardinals are interested in Bagent. ( Probably bullsh**). So the question is if we could get a 3 Rd pick for him, would you trade him? The story suggested a 2nd but that seems unrealistic. I think this year they keep the offensive players together for continuity issues. Maybe one might be gone but majority so we can go be aligned to have the best offense in the league. Every time a player becomes available a bunch of pundits have them coming to the bears. Poles never lets information out so when say, they have sources, bullsh**.

Does anyone know if we get a comp pick if he signs somewhere else? I think he could get a 8 to 10 mil contract. -

The other teams know what we do about his play and contract and a team hoping they can extend him to lower his pay is gambling he would bend. I think he only accepts an extension for the Bears, imo. -
Yeah the no brainers need to start soon so they can get a better idea on what their true cap is.

yeah it's really a no brainer. The question is, will anyone trade for him? He'd have to pre-agree to a smaller deal, and multiple teams would need to be interested. I still think the price would be extremely low, like a 6th or a 7th, but that's the only possible thing standing in the way of cutting him right now. I guess if you cut him, it could figure into compensatory picks for 2027, but this is all nit picking. We're gonna just cut him soon because he's not good, and we gain $15M on the cap. There's no mystery LOL
