The Defense is Already Fixed...
Agree with everything. I think the back seven give 12-14 sacks.

The Defense is Already Fixed...
I agree, we added 3 DTs in FA and drafted one that all fit the scheme. Billings wasnt a fit for this style, he was good for us for a couple years but time to move on. Dexter will be gone next year and possibly Jarrett. Since Dayo isnt going anywhere this year and they actually like his fit and said he was starting to improve before the injury, he might stick around like Sweat since his last year drops a little to 13.5. Booker will be the guy along with Sweat to get that 3rd down pressure we need. The back 7 will be much improved not only with Gordan and Johnson back healthy, but Bryant and Thieneman. Next years draft has more DEs and I don't see them missing out on one. Get an Edge and 3T and then the rest of the draft is reloading more skill.

Round 2, Pick 57, Logan Jones, C
Its so interesting how the Max Crosby thing affected all of this. Baltimore lets Linderbaum go, and then we get ahead of them for his replacement (to them) twice. In free agency and then again in the draft. Course we didnt get a DE, so the whole thing is kind of interesting. The more film I watch on Jones the more I love him. Hes a beast. Jones and Roush are going to improve our run game a lot once they are both in.

The Defense is Already Fixed...
Looking back at last years defense, I saw some really good pieces and progress. The opposite was also observed. As it was pre-described, the offense came on, slowly, as predicted. The defense didn't get that same grace. DA is known to run a scheme that is trait specific, while BJ's scheme is talent specific. In that grace, we made two intentional signings in Dayo and Grady. They being one half of the starting DL, rarely played together due to injury. Whether training did that is irrelevant, due to case hardening. Case Harding is a manufacturing term used for toughening, due to job specific repetition. We got that last year from 80% of our defense struggling through unity last year. I fully don't expect that this year. With that, we should come out of TC with the defensive roster we wanted last year. Heading toward the, above mentioned, opposite. I've gotta start with my most hated Bear from last year, Tremaine Edmunds. He gone! Watch our LB crew make more tackles in the hole this year. I don't care about how tall or fast he was, because he didn't play like it. We plugged in players through all three levels and they have is splash plays and equally ugly plays. This year we kept those that for and added speed at all three levels. With those additions, we will have the most talented secondary in the league. The DL will improve through knowing the system, case hardening and the ascension of players like Turner and Booker. Booker set a pace for double digit sacks returning from injury. Expect that to happen this year. Sweat will give us 8-10, with Dexter and Turner giving 6-8 apiece. Throw in successful blitzes and we'll get another 10. Realistically, we'll be middle of the pack defensively and that will be enough with the offense being more solid as it grows. That's another storyline that make the defense better. Playing from ahead is far different than playing from behind. That's the expectation...

I agree, we need to draft OL, DL, and CB every year to replenish the positions so you dont have to pay big contracts .- Pass Rush
I keep looking at pass rush info and seeing if other paid pass rushers are below expectations. Sweat is paid the 16th highest contract. 7 players paid more had less sacks. Crosby and Sweat both had 10. The problem with paying high contracts, most dont live up to the money. Having several 6-7 sack players like Seattle is probably the best way to build this defense. Out of the top 15 free agents only Cam Jordan/10.5--, Von Miller/9-- and Clowney /8.5 were even close to 10. 6.1 mil, 6 mil, 3.5 il respectfully. Go out and get Cam Jordan, the best run and pass rush DE available.- Round 2, Pick 57, Logan Jones, C
My belief is you need to draft oline about every year between rounds 2-4, or LT round 1. You need a pipeline of hawgs so your not buying 3 pieces to be competent. On the D line, same, they play 4 at a time but heavily rotate. The Bears haven't bought into that philosophy it seems. Better make it up next draft. Even having Sweat, Booker, and Turner fo a few years at end. I assume Dayo gets cut next year unless he becomes an 8-10 sack man. DT, needs to add a couple with Dexter a FA and Jarrett likely a cut.- Round 2, Pick 57, Logan Jones, C
I think they have a good idea what teams might take at certain positions. It's about when they take them. They probably could have gotten him at 60 but if they traded back to 66 , not sure they would have gotten him. If he's Tyler linderbaum, a few spots isn't going to matter if they wanted him that bad.- Round 2, Pick 57, Logan Jones, C
I saw where the Baltimore GM was asked why they didn't draft a center and he said they had someone they liked, but they were drafted in the second. That means they probably liked Jones and Slaughter. Now, Baltimore could have drafted either but got Zion Young instead at 45. Their next pick was at 80 I think, but maybe if the Bears don't take Jones Baltimore jumps up before the Bears can get him in the second - the Bears need and interest in centers was not exactly a secret. Then again, maybe if Jones emerges as a starter sooner rather than later, Baltimore becomes someone you could flip Bradberry to if they have issues there going into the season.- More Videos
- Pick 89, Zavion Thomas, WR, LSU
I find it interesting that the more you dive into the picks, the more you understand why they drafted them. A lot of pundits say, he was a 6th or 7th round pick but playing for BJ he can become a huge weapon, maybe not for many other teams. Puka Nacua was the last player taken in the 5th round of the 2023 draft, not saying he will be anything like that but that talent is found later in drafts. He run the ball several times and threw a few passes, BJ is going to love this guy. He is 1" shorter and 10 lbs less than Jamyr Gibbs but looks similar in watching both their highlights.- Pick 89, Zavion Thomas, WR, LSU
If he stays healthy, by week 8 fans will forget about DJ Moore.- My hope and theory

The bad defense as you state was last year, not because we didnt have any talent but because we had so many injuries. At least 2 games we had 6 starters out. When JJ came back, he didnt play well. When Edmunds came back, he didnt play well. Edwards was banged up for most of the year. Jarrett was only healthy at the end of the season. You are trying to use last year as an example that that happens every year and that's not the case. We have been consistently bad for many different reasons. I think the most consistent traits to be in and win many SBs is when KC was winning them. A great coach and a great QB are the two best traits for a team to have but they're so many variables its hard to even suggest that. We were a few plays away from being in NFC championship game with a bad defense. One of the best games we played all year was our last game against the Rams. We got there for many reasons and it takes a combination of good luck and good play. The Rams were one play away from going to the SB in their game against Seattle.- Last week

I agree. Teams dont take their foot off of the accelerator when a SB window opens, quite the opposite. Many teams will go into cap hell to try to get over the hump to win a SB. Im not saying we should do THAT, but now WOULD be the time to take the cap hit and bring in a stud Edge rusher.- My hope and theory
there is a difference between perfect and a one sided roster either on offense or on defense. good + offenses get you to a superbowl. good + offenses plus good to good + defenses, (or visa versa) to go along with it WIN superbowls. if you can't stop the run or rush the passer (and we can't/couldn't do either) i will come right out and say you will lose 99.9% of superbowls even if you luck out to get there. sure there are dark horse teams who will win one but if you want to build a dynasty you can't believe that you draft for the future cap hit. this is the first time hearing this in my life of watching the nfl. it makes absolutely no sense.- My hope and theory
Good points, they won a SB with a great coach-average QB and a very good defense. Also the 9th best rushing team in the league. If Caleb is the man, Ben the coach , 2nd in the league in rushing. , we arent that far away.- Pass Rush
Seattle won the SB last year with the 6th best sack team in the league. Also NE made the SB with the same number of sacks we had. (35) 4 of the top 6 sack leaders didnt make the playoffs Atl-Minn-Browns-Lions Playoff teams 2025: top 10 in sacks Denver-Rams-Seattle-Chargers-Eagles-Texans-Steelers other teams Bears-49ers-NE-GB-Panthers-Bills-Jaguars Seahawks leading sackers L. Williams/7- B Murphy/7-U Nwosu/7-D Lawerence/6 - D Thomas/3.5 They run a 4-3 and 3 are LBers, I DE and 1 DT. Anyone can post stats to try to make a point and that's what this is. As much as pass rush defense is important, its not the end all to making it to a SB, Seattle shows its a consensus of pass rushers and not one top player. A lot with Seahawks success was scheme with speed and athletics players. I think we are building the defense in the same manner. Our top 5 sack leaders Sweat/11-Dexter/6- Booker/4.5 (6.5)-C J Gardner/3 -Jarrett/1.5- I dont think we are as far away from being a decent pass rush team- My hope and theory
Seattle just won a Super Bowl with castoff QB Sam Darnold. They had also just moved on from their star WR in the same offseason. No team has a perfect roster.- More Videos
As we know by the history of the NFL speed alone doesnt make you a good NFL player. We have an excellent coaching staff and a good scouting dept. so if they bring someone in, I think at least they have a chance to become a better player. Of course that doesnt make every prospect succeeds but I trust the staff(2025 draft) until they give me reason not too. I judge Poles differently with BJ and an upgraded coaching staff over before last year. They all have an input and it applies to their picks.- More Videos
Have to add Velus to this ChatGPT cartoon. Make him a V8 juice can, but change it to V12 with short arms.- My hope and theory
We got pretty lucky to pull off all those 2 minute comebacks. Most of the games we couldnt capitalize for most of the game until crunch time. I expect to see them improve in that early game consistency, if they do not, dont expect the same outcomes.- UDFAs 2026
He was probably one of the 7th round picks they were looking at taking.- My hope and theory
Next year we have a more cap friendly situation to add a difference maker and will be a SB contender. The outlier is if Caleb Williams is what we think he is with BJs offense , our offense could be good enough to overcome any defense deficiencies. We did just win 12 games with a bad defense. - Round 2, Pick 57, Logan Jones, C
