  2. To me this was Poles biggest failure. Now Im reading more support for the idea that the McCaskeys simply said that he couldn't fire a guy with 3 years left on his contract. If so, that shields Poles from that decision, but then it calls into question why he agreed to Eberflus in the first place. I understand he was under ridiculous pressure, having just been hired and your boss has a guy picked out for you. Maybe its too much to hope that Poles would have put the brakes on at that point. I also read this week that Caleb was trying to get out of going to the Bears pre draft until he met with Poles, and that Poles, Warren and Cunningham all told Caleb that they knew the Bears were a shit show, and they were working to change that. If I read between the lines, it's its a hunch more than a fact, that Poles may even have said something about Eberflus and the future. probably something like "listen Caleb, either he is going to make it work here, or we will find you coaches that can" whatever it was, after that meeting Caleb texted friends that he could work with the Bears. So it's hard to triangulate Poles' part in this - whoever's fault it was, Eberflus was another in a long line of disasters. Maybe the last one(s?) a McCaskey gets to make? Moving forward things do seem to be progressing now. But look at this list: Eberflus Nagy Trestman Jauron Waldron Getsy Loggains Gase Kromer TIce Shea Shoop Crowton What. The. Hell.

  4. It is crazy just how bad they were. Flus may be the only head coach to have his DC, OC, and RB Coaches all fired in season, then gets fired in season himself. Williams and Walker left in season in 2023, Waldron and Flus in 2024. In reality Flus should've never been hired, and or fired after every season. He took a 6-win team and somehow made it worse. Then because Fields willed the team to a few extra wins in 2023 he got a 3rd year. Which was again crazy. How does a guy like that get one of the top 32 positions for that career field? This continually supports the position that what Caleb did last year was even better all things considered. The coaching actually hurt him and was a detriment to his development and performance. I would not be surprised if every other rookie QB drafted last year fails miserably under the same conditions.
  5. ? There definitely was a story that the coaches werent preparing him properly with film study. We are talking about it now. Waldron and Eberflus were TERRIBLE. And unprofessional. And inept. And in over their heads. Frauds.
  6. The story was, he didnt want to play for the Bears Yes it is malpractice, old story / new context
  7. Here is a quote stating that it was "at times". I just thought it meant that when he was going to watch tape alone, no coach ever told him to watch something specific. Still coaching malpractice, but it seems par for the course with how bad the coaching staff was.
  8. Yes he is saying they never watched film with him. Thats why it's a big story.
  9. Check out this interview with Bagent. He thinks Caleb and Dexter are going to have breakout seasons. They try to be nice about the former staff, but Bagent is super excited about the new staff and went up and down both sides of the ball praising the coaches. He also noted that the new staff is teaching them what they are responsible for on each play, what their job is on every play, very detail-oriented, connecting the dots, etc. Now one would think this occurs everywhere, but the fact that he states this as a difference leads me to believe that they were just running plays last year. He mentions "teaching" several times in this interview. He also mentioned how awesome it is to have JT Barrett and Case Keenum in the QB Room. He said that Keenum has already helped him change his routine. That's awesome. I would not have any issues keeping 3x QBs on the roster if Keenum is that big of an influence.
  10. The WR group isnt impressive because they didnt have any great QBs and we were a D first and running team.
  11. The reason Kyle wasnt given any credit was because he was a 7th round pick. If we had drafted him in the 4th or 5th, no one would have looked down on the pick. He was the best RB in the big 10 for 2 years. Henderson and Junkins got more credit because they are good and played for OSU. Rutgers had a lousy passing game so he had to run against 8 and 9 in a box every carry. He could easily be the surprise of the whole draft.
  12. The quote was (at times) he watched film by himself. If a player goes in on his own time and watches film, I would say cudos to Caleb for putting extra work in. Every position group watches film of the game with their coaches after games. It was not stated (never).
  13. Yeah I agree, and also about knowing things by week 4 too. I do know that coaches dont watch tape with the players every time they watch tape. Like when they come in early, or leave late. But it's important that coaches watch tape with the QB relating to the weekly install each week. Even if a lot of it is the QB coach. But even still it can come down to Case and Caleb (and Tyson!) watching it together too. I think the Bears (and most or all NFL teams) have tremendous digital support staff. They can dial up plays that fit any filter immediately. "Show me every 3rd and more than 6 of the Vikings Defense for the last 4 weeks" for example. I would be shcoked if they didnt also have cutups digitally related to different concepts in the playbooks. So a player should be able to know that play X attacks middle zones, and then look at 2nd and 3rd down zone coverages from that defense to look for keys. My guess is that these cutups are already attached to the plays for that week. For a coach not to go through THAT with the player is incredible. There are some real clowns in the NFL. And we've employed a lot of them.
  14. I would never leave a franchise rookie QB watch ten seconds of film alone. Every play is an opportunity to learn and form a bond between coach and player. It actually pisses me off that they laid that burden on Caleb. I've seen video of Brady and Belichick where Bill showed Tom the difference of six inches. Football it's geometry. Tom took those lessons to the likes of Julian Edelman and made him a star. Anyone hear the phrase "third and Edelman"? The devil is in the details. Evidently Caleb had some camp and Waldren was involved; the dysfunction began there. I expect much more this year. And it ain't even close. We'll know everything by week four...
  15. If you look at the feet, everyone needed three steps to break down, but he only needed two. He breaks at the top of his route like a twitchy WR. incidentally, this is what Keenan Allen did so well in his career, and what Kmet cant do. This is that twitch at the top of the route that gets guys open.
  16. He had to wait for the ball too, which made his overall route slower than it could've been. Swift and Roschon didn't look bad, but Monangai for a rookie has some quick twitch.

  18. I am just floored that our coaches didnt watch film with Caleb. That's malpractice and it's stupid! I mean, it's your dream job in the NFL; head coach and Offensive Coordinator, and you have the first overall pick. How you do in that situation is gonna determine your NFL future. What in hell did you have to do that was so important that it didnt include hours of prep time for your QB? Explaining you offense vs. that weeks defense? It's INSANE. It is also true that QBs should watch a LOT more film than coaches have time for too. The QB coach should be there for some of it for sure, and if your team has a vet QB, it's their job too to teach the rookie how to watch film, and working together to find trends and such in the week's opponent. Case keenum is gonna be very helpful for Caleb in that way. And I think some people read all this to mean "oh you need help identifying cover 2?" and of course thats not it. It's about being clever and finding little tells and spacings in your opponent. You might think that in certain formations, the LB shades outside a bit more than average, and so you think "if I have Kmet on a slant on that play, like A, B, C & D in this weeks game plan, then I will be ready to expect that he will have superior body position inside" That's not football 101, it's noticing little details that give you small advantages in that week. It's the kind of thing where if you have multiple people looking at it, then each person sees different things. And the Coordinator is supposedly doing that too, scouting the opponents tendencies and matchups. So the game plan is supposed to have plays that are meant to exploit these expectations. So why in hell wouldnt you communicate that to your QB?? Show him the plays you have for the week along with some clips of WHY you chose them this week. What did the OC see? What will the QB look at? Sounds like Johnson is already doing a lot of that on the field. We dont have a weekly opponent now, so we are putting in the generic plays. BJ is explaining what each route is doing - how it gets open vs different coverages, or how it help put a defender in conflict, and how to read that etc. If you know WHY a play works, then it becomes a tool against defenses. If you just know the play and what to do, but not the reason behind it, then all you can do is read it in order, and not change your reads depending on what youre seeing, and how the play matches up to that. So yeah, BJ, Doyle, the QB coach and Keenum should be helping all of that and the film study all go together into one cohesive plan. Williams did pretty well last year without that, didnt he? Not to mention that we are hearing reports that multiple opponents coaching staffs actually laughed at us when reviewing our offensive tape for their defenses. Lining up in formations where you cause a couple players to be completely ineffective, running routes that dont compliment eachother, and making atorcious reads by the Ol in the running game. It should be really different this year. Is it possible we havent had a real football team here for decades? That we're gonna see something that looks tighter and more intentional than what we are used to? God dammit i am ready for it.
  19. OK so here's a good one. Each of our running backs in a short pass drill. What you can clearly see here is how many steps it takes them to break their speed, and turn for the ball. So you see how they get off, break down, and then start up again and turn. Check out how efficient Monangai is. He is so strong it takes him fewer steps to break his route, and then his snap and turn is just lightning fast. You can just see the explosiveness. I'd also note the order they are doing the drill in - thats the current pecking order. Hilarious that Homer is above Monangai. Mon is coming for all of you! And I gotta say, if Monangai is a true stud, that's gonna make those trade downs and missed RB picks look that much better. Same with Trapilo. Hit on both of those, and any draft day criticism I have of the draft this year and the way Poles played the board vaporises. https://www.facebook.com/reel/1111420107694286
  20. Yeah, people make the 4K Passing season a big deal, but the entire passing offense ineptitude has to end this year and with this group. Yep, and even if one of them doesn't pan out, the odds of all of them failing are close to zero.
  21. Right, it doesn't say anything about Daniels not being told what to watch. Just because he watched tape alone doesn't mean he wasn't told by Kliff what to watch. Whether he did it at home, at the facility, at, during, or after practice is a moot point if he was instructed on what to watch.
  22. Lots of offensive records will be broke with this group. The first one will be Caleb with passing yards and TDs this year.
  23. adam, incredible. Our passing woes are legendary. How can 5,059 be the franchise leader?! We have been so behind the curve, so backward. I sure hope it is our time now.
  24. Every player spends time watching tape on their own. It is a statement that gives you a chance to think, coaching never worked with him which we know is not true. What is shows is the dysfunction that was noticable when the *hit storm hit after the Washington game. I watched a bunch of game highlights from last year and we were competitive in a lot of games , while in the middle of the storm. We are underestimating what this team is capable of. My expections are much higher now with what Caleb is capable of with good coaching and a much better OL. Add DA and a more aggresive D and Caleb will be closer to 5000 yards than 4000. THIS IS NOT THE SAME OLD BEARS, we're just gun shy becauses of such a gloomy past.
  25. The quote from the story it said... "at times I came in and just watched film alone, nobody told me what to watch". That does not mean at all times. Nor does it mean he never had coaches showing him what to look for in film study. Why does it compare to Jayden Daniels? Because he Daniels is alone with nobody telling him what to watch for when he views film in the early morning hours before practice. The comparison is that Jayden to my knowledge has not publicly complained about doing the extra film study alone. In this case, neither has Caleb complained. It's just his father stepping into his son's business. Many Bears players over the years have talked about how they do their own film study either at home or in the facility.
  26. Caleb was 100% right. Johnson's response was absolutely perfect. Nothing else needs to be said about this IMO. Peace
  27. There is a good chance that the Bears top 4 franchise receiving leaders are currently on the team. Johnny Morris is #1 in Receiving Yards with 5059. DJ would need 2.5 more years with his average numbers to surpass Morris as the franchise leader. Then you have Odunze, who as a first round pick will more than likely get a 2nd contract. If he gets one, and just say he puts up his rookie numbers annually, he would surpass Morris halfway thru Year 6. Then you have Loveland and Burden. Both have the highest pedigrees of Receivers that the Bears have drafted (besides Odunze lol) since Alshon (3rd in franchise). A wild note about Alshon, if he stayed with the Bears, he would've been the franchise leader in receiving yards and 2nd in receptions. However, he never even had a 900 yard season in Philly before retiring at 30. So the Bears made the right move with him and he lucked in a Super Bowl with Philly and Foles.
