http://www.dailyherald.com/story/?id=201295&src=148 His base salary of $360,000 last season was the league minimum, as is the $445,000 base he's scheduled to make this season. But for now, he's willing to be patient. "It's tough, but I did sign a contract, so I'm obligated to come out here," he said. "I'd be reneging if I didn't show up, but at the same time it's very frustrating. I do want to get paid. But I'm not going to sit here and complain about not getting paid enough. I'm going to come out here and play ball."

If anyone deserves some luck from an injury perspective, he's the guy. He is my favorite player and I really hope he makes it through the year. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/cs-08...,6134247.column Peace

Points of View, June 2, 2008 http://chicagobearsfanforum.com/blog/?p=261 The Bears * Brad Biggs of the Chicago Sun-Times reports that WRs coach Darryl Drake believes the wide receivers are better this year even without Bernard Berrian and Muhsin Muhammad: "There's a lot more explosion out here right now." I want to believe... * Mike Mulligan, also of the Sun-Times has a fluff piece today on Devin Hester in which he says Hester needs to be paid. The part the stuck out to me were one or two comments from Drake like this one: "He has as good a pair of hands as anybody. And then his natural ability to run after…

I know it isn't going to happen.... And I know most of you do not agree... But I sure wish the Bears would consider picking up Simms from TBB and have him as our #3 (he may be better than Rex or Kyle). I honestly think he is an outstanding young prospect at QB. Yes, he had a severe injury but it was a spleen, not a knee or shoulder, or ankle, etc... Last time I checked a spleen is not necessary to be a good QB, you do have to have a heart and a brain, that Simms has, along with, IMHO, talent.

Bears | Quarterback competition could be long one Mon, 2 Jun 2008 07:46:06 -0700 The Associated Press reports Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith said he is prepared to let QB Rex Grossman and QB Kyle Orton compete for the team's starting quarterback job until the fourth game of the preseason. "Ideally you would like to have someone in place going into that last week of the preseason," Smith said. "But we'll just let it play out. If it's not clear by then, we'll let it go right up until (preseason's end)."

I have not seen this talked about, but w/ Tillman out the last couple days, Graham, not McBride, was getting the start. Does this not surprise anyone else? McBride is not injured, is he? McBride developed quicker than Graham, but Graham was the more highly touted prospect. Man, that would be a huge lift to our secondary depth if Graham were able to step up, while also having McBride.

http://www.pastapadre.com/2645/madden-09-p...tings#more-2645 Arguably OT, but interesting reading for those who care. The Bears overall are rated 80 (3rd in the division ahead of the Lions at 78). Bears coach Lovie Smith said he believes in these events -- this one was held smack in the middle of the team's three-day mandatory camp. He sees them as a way of providing action behind his words. Most NFL teams chant we are family. Smith lives it. It was clear in the gentle, caring way that he engaged families during the event. In the extra moments he took to welcome all. Smith has given his team a similar message and follow-up relating to its running game -- it will be back full-throttle for the 2008 season. He is selling it. He expects it bought. "We talk around here about getting off the bus running the football, it is our philosophy, but we were not a good…

http://www.chicagobears.com/news/NewsStory.asp?story_id=4766 LAKE FOREST, Ill. – When the Bears resumed OTA workouts Wednesday at Halas Hall, Terrence Metcalf lined up with the No. 1 offense at left guard as he has done throughout the offseason. The seventh-year pro is penciled in as the starter, but he knows that he must perform better than he did last season when he was benched after taking over for the injured Ruben Brown. Terrence Metcalf has played in 78 games with 25 starts in six years with the Bears. “It’s a huge opportunity,” Metcalf said. “I feel like it’s time for me to step out and pla…

We've only had a minicamp but this is a good sign that Hester has learned where to lineup and what route to run on plays. http://www.chicagobears.com/news/ChalkTalkStory.asp?story_id=4768 I totally agree with you that Devin Hester will surprise everyone at wide receiver this year. What’s your guess on how many catches and yards he’ll have? Do you think 70 catches and 850 yards is out of the question? Eric H. Monroe, Michigan I’m going to predict that Devin Hester catches 53 passes for 848 yards. I think 70 is a little high just because the Bears will try to establish a running game and also spread the ball around in the passing game t…

It's way early to make a judgment but just watching the day two highlights from minicamp Ced appears to be quite a bit quicker than he was last year. I can't tell if he's any faster but his lateral cuts seem to be much crisper than what I recall last year. http://www.chicagobears.com/multimedia/mul...amp;PLAY_CLIP=Y Other observations... Olsen continues to be a QBs best friend with outstanding catches. Our QBs throw a lot of picks into coverage but this can just as easily be a blown route by a WR, still some very bad passes. Metcalf may have left a few biscuits on the table this offseason, it seems he can move a bit better than last year. Of c…

http://chicagobearsfanforum.com/blog/?p=262 Very slow news week. Here's hoping things pick up with the Bears Expo this weekend. The Bears * The Chicago Tribune's Rick Morrissey wrote and interesting column on the Rex Grossman/Kyle Orton QB competition the other day. It expresses my point of view pretty well. But maybe it doesn't. But maybe it does... * Pat Kirwan at NFL.com writes about camp battles to keep an eye on, highlight among others, the batle betwen Grossman and Orton: Then, of course, there are the head-to-head battles between veterans that should have happened years ago but finally will take place in 2008.…

Bears | Olsen impressive Thu, 5 Jun 2008 10:26:50 -0700 Larry Mayer, of ChicagoBears.com, reports Chicago Bears TE Greg Olsen has been one of the most impressive players during the team's minicamp and offseason workouts. He continues to beat linebackers on pass patterns down the field. Hopefully it's a sign of things to come this upcoming season.
