http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/trainingcamp...&id=4375764 Cutler more than just a strong arm Comment Email Print Share Clayton By John Clayton ESPN.com Archive BOURBONNAIS, Ill. -- What's fascinating about Chicago's camp has been the fans' reaction to quarterback Jay Cutler, the most talented Bear to play the position since Sid Luckman five decades ago. Sure, Bears fans are excited about Cutler's arm. It's one of the best in the game. When he snaps off a lightning rod of a pass, they hoot and holler. Whether it's awe or cautious disbelief, Bears fans stand and shout out critiques to the receivers or the thrower when the play doesn't go perfectly.…

Bears Add to Offensive Line with Guard by John M. Crist of BearReport.com, August 3, 2009 at 10:41pm ET Maurice Miller Profile The Bears have several open spots on the roster right now with Charles Tillman on the physically unable to perform list and Marcus Harrison on the non-football injury list, so they made a move Monday to strengthen the offensive line. According to Adam Caplan, the senior NFL reporter for Scout.com, the Monsters of the Midway claimed guard Maurice Miller off waivers from Tampa Bay. The 6-4, 327-pound Miller was originally signed May 1 by the Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent out of Ole Miss. With guards Dan Buenning and Tyle…

Comcast Sports Net reports that the Bears have named Greg Olsen the starter at TE. From what I saw at TC this is not surprising and its nothing against Des Clark(67 starts in a row) its just that Olsen has improved more each year and looks ready to blossom.

Could disappoint in '09 Chicago Bears Why the pessimism? Believe it or not, the Bears had the third-worst pass defense in the league last year ... at least yardagewise (241.2 yards per game). They were fifth overall in stopping the run, which is a pretty wide gulf. Even with the arrival of Jay Cutler, I'm just not sure if the Bears offense is going to be significantly better this season since he doesn't have any reliable receivers to throw to. In other words, we could be in for more of the same. And oh, by the way ... Chicago only registered one special teams touchdown last season, which is certainly far less than we're accustomed to seeing from them. Worst-ca…

'95 & '09: Kramer vs. Cutler I have always liked Kramer, as a QB, and after his career in his work with the media. He has never been a "homer" and has shown excellent abilities to analyze a player and team. He isn't full of sh** like many who have written Cutler off as one who throws too many near INTs & other such crap. I like this article a lot. It admits our possible weakness at WR but also admits we might have a lot of good weapons for Cutler. It also gives excellent reviews of Cutlers strengths & weaknesses. Definitely worth reading.

At the bottom of an article about Zach Bowman was this little tidbit about how Jon Hoke has changed our CBs coverage technique: ******************************************************************************** ******************** http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/footb...0,2983877.story Then came organized team activities, and the new emphasis on coverage technique that played into Bowman's skills beautifully. "We've done more backpedaling this year than I ever have in my life and that has helped me a lot," Bowman said. "They are teaching us to stay square for a longer period of time. Last year they were telling us to open up any time we felt threate…

Thayer listed the things he'll be watching for during training camp. One thing caught my eye, a very welcome sight indeed is that our Dline is learning to use counter moves on their pass rush. We've all been asking for this for years and perhaps it has finally arrived. If true, just the fact that we mix up the pass rush angles and moves will make our Dline more effective. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://blogs.suntimes.com/bears/2009/07/1_...tom_thayer.html There will be a good deal of focus on the secondary and rightfully so. Cornerback Charles Tillman will be an onlook…

Yesterday I listened to Lovie's press conference: http://www.chicagobears.com/multimedia/mul...lip=Y&rn=17 and when he was talking about the WRs (5min mark) he suddenly stopped and said "he's excited to see what Greg Olsen can do in his new role, and his role is changing." Lovie usually doesn't say anything beyond his usual cliches so for him to go out of his way to mention Olsen like this means there is something to it. What is his new role? Anyone heard about this? Anyone seeing anything at camp? From the Trib video all I've seen so far was that he lined up wide, outside the WR, on one play. Not sure if that means much as he lined up some at WR…

http://espn.go.com/chicago/columns/blog?po...;name=dickerson There's been no evidence -- outside of Plaxico Burress -- of the Bears looking for any additional help at wide receiver. However, the Bears may have quietly done some homework on free agent Matt Jones. The talented but troubled Jones, a first-round pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2005 -- admitted Wednesday his representatives have engaged in some dialogue with Chicago. "My agent has talked to the Jets, Titans, Bears and Dallas," Jones told 103.7 The Buzz in Little Rock, Ark. "Things are looking good. Something probably will happen sooner rather than later. We just want it to be a good fit and …

Due to being out of shape. As per the Sun Times. No kidding. The SCORE said he appeared to be pushing 400 lbs. They might be exaggerating, but either way, how can a 2nd year pro athlete not stay in shape? Unbelievable. Lets hope Dusty can stay healthy.

I thought I'd start a new thread for this, since it's not clear how much of it is related to Tillman's injury and how much is not. Here are the changes in the secondary so far: - Danieal Manning is back at FS... - ...but Craig Steltz will replace him in the nickel package. On obvious passing downs, Manning will move to nickel back (although Jeff Dickerson suggests that Corey Graham might get some snaps there as well.) - In the base package, Steltz is the backup SS behind Kevin Payne. - Corey Graham is back at corner... - ...but Zack Bowman is the starter at left corner in Tillman's absence. So, unless I'm wrong, our secondary depth c…
