  1. Thanks for the info, I had only looked at the train schedules from South Bend to Chicago and Chicago to South Bend, Michigan City isn't that far away, I think both of us would prefer taking the train. I hadn't called yet but planned to, just to see if there were options. That would mean doing our exploring by foot, taxi, or public transpo. I would love to go to Ditka's especially considering that is the night they are having the ceremony to retire his number. Neither of us drink, so we'll probably skip the pubs but I do like the idea of Ditka's and/or Deep Dish/ and thin.

Thanks for all the replies, lots of good ideas hoping it works out that he can get off those days, Last time we went to a game it was the old Soldier Field. Should be a great game, great half time ceremony, and of course a Bears win!!!

I'll add another vote for Geno's. Giordano's is a bit more publicly-known but I didn't like their sauce as much, they add too much sugar to it for my taste.

  2. I did a check and there is a South Shore train running after the Bears game that night that makes a stop in Michigan City, special for the Bears game. You might want to check if there are other options that do go to South Bend but Michigan City is a really good option.

There is parking available at and around the stations in Michigan City, most spots free or quite cheap and your drive would be less than an hour from South Bend. It might be a slight bit slower than driving directly but leaving the parking garages after the Bears game is a mess, it took me at least a half hour just to get out of the garage from like the 2nd floor.

  3. First question, are you super-duper double-sure that the South Shore isn't running special trains that night? Like have you not just checked their website but also called them and asked about that date and said "the Bears are having a night game that night" on the phone call?

I'd be more than a little surprised if they didn't run a post-game train.

  4. you are right. but... the DB's did a 'reasonable' job considering that there was no pass rush at all against some of the best receivers in the nfl.

to me, the pass rush is a serious concern. we will have to see what happens in that area from here on, but it's something to watch. if meltons game doesn't improve a lot this season, it may be a blessing we tagged him instead of a major cap hit contract for years.

Especially since McClellan was actually sorta effective, it's hard to believe that D-Line won't perform a ton better in most of its games.

  5. It really seems like a double edged sword to me. When it works, it could wear out a D. It seems like it would wear out their D when it doesn't tho.

The early turnovers by Washington really set things up perfectly for the Eagles to exhaust Washington's D early, they had to go out there again and again.

  6. Cutler's performance highlighted in NFL Blog QB weekly report:

    Jay Cutler

    Passer rating: 93.2

    QBR: 85.7

Analysis: Playing behind an overhauled offensive line, Cutler was not sacked. In fact, Cutler was highly productive in Marc Trestman's offense against the Cincinnati Bengals' blitz. He completed eight of 10 passes for 94 yards and a touchdown when the Bengals sent at least five pass-rushers. He was efficient, finishing with 242 yards on 33 attempts, but was better downfield than you might have anticipated in an offense built around quick throws. A third of Cutler's passes traveled more than 10 yards downfield, and he completed eight of them for 171 yards and a touchdown. He targeted favored receiver Brandon Marshall 10 times but also looked elsewhere to receiver Alshon Jeffery (eight targets), running back Matt Forte (six) and tight end Martellus Bennett (six).

  7. It took a while for the offense to find a groove. They were somewhat sloppy in the first half, too many drops, and there was the usual Cutler INT, but they were really impressive in the 2nd half. They started making precision, pinpoint throws, Cutler started moving around more, the line did a good job of picking up most of the pressure and Cutler made mostly good decisions with one notable INT.

In the first half they deserved some criticism, very vanilla. Looked a ton better in the 2nd.

  8. I'm not sure what looks worse today, the offense or defense. The Bears look like they'll be getting a top 5 pick this year with the way they have played so far. Horrendous!

They're still in the game for now. Right now is when this newly revamped offense needs to step up and actually do something.

  9. Was hoping we'd be rid of the bend don't break crap.

They're doing a much worse job of tackling also. Obviously Lovie's elite D forgot to practice tackling in the preseason, they're really sloppy on wrapping guys up.
