  1. So, I finally gave up and just switched all approvals to admin-only and pretty much haven't approved anyone for 2 days, and that involved pruning 40-50 applicants.

Should anyone real actually read this message and want to apply, hopefully they'll try it a couple times.

Ya I havent approved any either but its fairly obvious which ones are spammers.

  2. You might as well tell the other team what youre doing when he is on the field as a RB then. They know its either gonna be a run to the outside or a a short pass because Hester wouldnt be able to run up the middle or block. Hes just a good return man and a salvageable 4th wr. Trying to turn him into anything else will probably hurt his return game like it did right when he moved to wr.

  3. PEOPLE- THERE IS A REASON I CAPITALIZED "RUMORS." CALM DOWN. I never said this WILL happen. In fact, I said I wasn't sure how credible he is. After doing some research, however, he has hit on a few of his predictions, so this is a bit more interesting than I originally thought.

As for the Briggs talk...people need to choose a side. On this page only, one person who backs Briggs in this case said "we'd be crippled without Briggs" and then another, who also sides with Briggs, says "then let him hold out." How does that solve a damn thing? They'd be "crippled" with him on another team, and if he stays on the team, doesn't play and takes up a roster spot, then they're being "crippled" in that way as well.

Guys, the Bears need a MIRACULOUS offseason to contend next year, and by miraculous, I mean 2 very good rookies, 2 solid looking ones, signing of 2 good pass catchers (unless one of the rookies is one), and a upgrade in the secondary and on the DL (unless those rookies help). If a team wants to take Briggs, give him a $2.5m/year raise for the next 3-4 years, let them. It's about time that the Bears begin to get younger and BETTER defensively. I'm not saying I want him gone, but if a team would take him for the Bears to move up in the draft or for a good, veteran player, I say do it.

If he wants $3m more annually, he can leave. If he wants a minimal raise, work it out. I've heard he doesn't want that much of a raise, so the situation might work itself out. We won't know until next August, though.

Combining two different peoples points doesnt prove anything. Briggs has no legs to stand on to hold out. He can whine all he wants but he knows he has no leverage. Tell him to get closer to the end of his deal and if he deserves it they will restructure.

I also disagree they need a miraculous offseason to contend. IMO the minimum they could do and be good enough to contend is resign/franchise Forte, sign a number 1 WR, address LT and then add a starter in the secondary (either corner or safety) and defensive line (either tackle or end). To me this is the bare minimum they could do and contend.

  4. Why would Hester not be tough enough but Sproles is? Also, most recommendations that I have seen suggests Hester as the #4 WR. Basically taking him off the field all together. I think playing that change of pace position puts him in a similiar place to how Harvin gets used at times and Sproles.

Theyre different people. This reminds me of when people though Garrett Wolfe should have been good because his size was similar to Sproles. Hester has struggled with corner and wr, he is a great return man, thats it.

  5. The Bears defense would be crippled if they lost Briggs. He still played last season despite his crying about his contract and his teammates love him. Its not that much different then Vjax situation in SD yet everyone seems to want him. The NFL is a business so those situations are gonna happen. The goal is fielding the best team, not making a team people can feel warm and fuzzy about.

  6. It blows my mind so many people want to trade Briggs. He like a 7 time pro bowler we have under contract for a few more years that we couldnt even get anything of value for a few years ago. Why trade him for a 2nd day draft pick? What kind of sense does that make?

  7. Ive seen enough in 7 years of Drake. If he wasnt happy with the personnel he should have lobbied for upgrades. If your WR coach cant coach up your WRs then why does he have that position. I disagree with the point that its because weve never had any WR talent here in the sense that WRs dont need to be pro bowlers to improve. A bad WR can become an average WR and so on. If he was a good coach some of these guys would have least showed signs of improvement, instead they seem to be regressing.

  8. I had the audacity to suggest the exact same thing over at Soxtalk yesterday and the response was that I had said something particularly incredible and unbelievable.

I was gonna chime in and say I completely agreed with you in the NFL thread on Soxtalk but I dont even want to get into it with some of the people who post in that thread. Its like talking to a wall.

  9. I have no idea. All I do know is that he's had virtually nothing to work with.

I agree we havent done much of anything to bring in WR talent but at the same time the players who we have had have made little to no progress with Drake as the coach. Even bad or average players can improve if theyre coached up to some degree. Im not saying he should have turned Hester into a pro bowl wr or we should have expected 100 catches from Knox but it would have been nice to see them make at least the slightest improvement in some aspects of playing WR in the NFL.

  10. If the talent hasn't been there at the position (and i don't think it has been)...then the guy who failed to bring in that talent was the guy who was fired a week or two ago.

So do you think Drake has done an acceptable job as the WR coach since 2004?

  11. Then I still think you go for V-Jack or Bowe. With any big name WR, we're going to have to pay a lot of money. But if you get a FA, then you don't lose draft picks that we desperately need...

If we knew for sure we could get one of those two guys then I wouldnt make the deal either. However Id be surprised if Bowe were on the market and Vjax will be the top wr on most teams lists. I completely disagree with anyone who says theyd rather use that first rounder on a WR instead of trading it for Marshall. Thats actually insane to me how anyone would want that. If we were in range to get Blackmon thats one thing, but there may be 2-3 wrs off the board when we pick, Ill take Marshall all day. (The last part isnt directed to you madlith)

  12. I guess the obvious question is...how much WR talent has he been given that has failed? The only one that really comes to my mind is Bradley...are there others?

Thats a tough question to answer. Theres always the chance that we had some talent here at some point that was never developed correctly but we will never really know. But from what weve seen from what weve had has been really bad. Terrible route running, not finishing routes and zero ability to go for any type of jump balls. Id like to be able to point to Brandon Lloyds recent success since he left the Bears but I think his issues here were due to injury. Either way, at some point somebody has to be held responsible for a trainwreck like this and Drake is the easiest target.

  13. I know theres been numerous times hes been brought up in the past but I seriously have to question how this guy has kept his job since 2004. The state of our WR corps under his tenure has been easily the worst in the NFL. We havent been able to develop a single WR that weve drafted and the few weve signed have done absolutely nothing here. How can a WR coach watch the product weve had on the field the past few years and not be able to do anything to improve it and still have a job? The closest thing weve had to a legit WR is Earl Bennett and thats 100% due to his familiarity with Jay because as we saw when Cutler doesnt play Bennett basically becomes a ghost.

  14. It appears Im alone on this but I still say Id give up our first for him. Granted I dont think thats what it would cost to get him, but even if it was I dont think its a bad deal. Between our pick at 19, Briggs and Marshall there are 2 proven commodities and 1 unknown and Id rather have the 2 guys who you know what youll get from. We also dont know which of these potential FA wrs will even be on the market or how many other teams will be pursuing them.

  15. Briggs is a great OLB but he'll be out of his prime soon, and the Bears need to get younger at OLB anyways. If they could trade Briggs and a 3rd or 4th for Marshall, they have to do it. Remember, Briggs wants a pretty significant extension and is unhappy about not receiving it yet. Then again, the new GM might want to give him that extra money. However, the chemistry between Marshall and Cutler is undeniable. If you can get Marshall for Briggs and keep that #1 pick to draft a OLB or OT, you do it.

Ya I would do either trade, I would just prefer to keep Briggs over the pick. However, that may be me still having nightmares about JA in my head so my opinion might change depending who our gm is.
