So is Frazier beating out Smith or Blackwell? The team must think he can, otherwise it is a wasted pick. Compare that to a Safety taking reps from Owens (easy) or a RB getting snaps over Roschon (possible).

Hard to see unless the move a CB to  Safety.  They cannot count on Brisker for 16 games.

Honest question here. It just seems like he is getting the smartest guy in the room syndrome, and that effectively killed Pace after the Trubisky and Shaheen picks.

It felt like every pick other than Burden was overdrafted, while other teams got great value. Coming into the draft with 3 picks in the top 41, I am just not feeling it this year. I hope I am wrong. Then you add the trades with BUF that lost value and the only saving grace is getting a 4th next year from LAR.

Anyone else feeling like this? 1st and 2nd rounders have to be starters. The Bears had 4 of those picks and got a TE2, WR3, OT3, and DT4, no starters unless Trapilo somehow beats out Braxton.

No one had this draft predicted. I guess we have to let it play out with Ben Johnson and Dennis Allen in the room evaluating the current roster and prospects in the draft.  I keep thinking they would need a DE, but Sherman Turner at 6'3 290 can play there and 3T.

They must trust RB Swift to be dynamic and Johnson to grind those needed yards out.

At this point, I don't know if it even matters. Older prospect who will be 25 in October, he is a year younger than Jaylon Johnson.

Ugh, good thing Poles is so smart.

Maybe someone shifts to S.  I know Gordon will play there

Jaylon Johnson, Kyler Gordon, Tyrique Stevenson, Terrell Smith , Josh Blackwell

All of these guys are available for Poles, don't overthink this.

    4th Round Grades
    Martinez, RB
    Reed, S
    Frazier, OG

    4th-5th Round Grades
    Neal, RB
    Pegues, DT
    Mickens, S

I like the RB and S choices.  The Bears met with DE Baron, wouldn't shock .e there either

Bingo. The only person/people who know anything are those with proven track records. For instance, who is picking for the Steelers? They’re perpetually good. Maybe not great every year, but very good.

And that’s why I continually discount the Bears’ front office, and the fans who blindly support. They’ve failed for decades. Prove me wrong for more than a single year, then I’ll stop criticism. Until then, the picks that seem to not make sense, or go against what the team clearly needs, will always be met with skepticism.

I would have preferred more invested in the trenches, but they heavily invested there in free agency.  Going forward, they should be able to use draft picks better, buy it is the Bears.

    14 picks to go.

    Still available:

Martinez, Neal, and Smith at RB
    Mickens and Reed at S
    Frazier and Huber at OG
    Pegues at DT

I would be happy with any of these 8 guys this late in the 5th.

    Ollie Gordon RB

    Tyler Baron DE

    Jared Ivey  DE

    Jake Majors C

Now that is what I am talking about, they gave up Pick 148, and got 195 AND a 2026 4th rounder.

Great, I wasn't finding the details on espns tracker.   We got the Thuney pick back.

Another trade - given this was more of a depth draft in general - I don’t mind this. Would love to pick up a future pick out of this too

Exactly, we didn't have extra pieces to move around this draft. All those late picks for flyers on positions we needed the last year or two hurts.

Dude straight up comes off like a pompous asshole. Throws himself a “legendary” draft party. Has average skills. Carries himself like he won the conference and Rose bowl. Focused on his media presence, sponsorship deals, and making a music video. Deion sycophants in the media brewing discord as soon as the starter doesn’t throw for 300yds and 4TDs.

And then the whole “we aren’t playing for certain teams” nonsense?

    Pass.

He was finally taken round 5.  I guess they can easily cut him if he brings any antics.

Ruben Hyppolite II, LB at 132. Who?

I am so confused, this guy was a UDFA, why is Poles selecting him in the 4th round?

My guess is they must be happy with everyone on the roster.  Needs that we and the pundits listed were not all covered and could have been.

    JJ Chart
    109 = 76pts

    132 = 40pts
    169 = 23.8 pts (63.8 total)

    Equivalent to a mid-6th rounder in value/

Using the Rich Hill chart, the Bears lost a late 6th early 7th rounder of value.

What were they thinking.  Now Jack Sawyer gone.

What is up with Shadeur Sanders? He is being black balled by every team.

You're right it is a mute point, not any different from saying they would have taken if he was available. I think Johnson's plan was to add playmakers over the trenches. Taking 2 weapons with their first 2 picks. We are guessing at their evaluation of the team, so everyones opinion is valid.

There was no trenches except Ersery to draft. I think Ersery could be better than what we have, but Burden was a 1st rd prospect and they went that route.  Ersery was closer to 3rd round in many opinions, I think he will be a name around for a long time. I think they messed up not taking Kaleb Johnson to be replace Roschon Johnson as a 1, 2 combo.  Maybe Scattebo will be the pick round 4.

I’m willing to see what Pickens does being healthy as I know he put in a lot of work last offseason before getting hurt.

Plus new coaching staff. Either way I like what they have done with both lines - would like to see some of our previous years class take steps forward and hopefully some hits right now.

Pickens seems wrote off, the Bears had him playing out of position and he was hurt. He busted his ass with dexter and is more a 3t and 0t. Let him play at his natural position.

Solid pick, can't complain, need another guy there as Pickens has underwhelmed. Back to back trenches.

PFF did not like Turner. 2 out of 3 seasons under 60 grade.

I figured they would want more beef, to help Billings. Maybe the grab another

But, maybe they don't need the beef inside with bigger DEs.

I guess it's until tomorrow now.  Can Poles sit on his hands with 109 and 148.

CB Trey Amos to WAS, Bears are on the clock.

    All available:

    RB - Johnson, Skattebo
    DT - Alexander, Turner, Norman-Lott
    Edge - Jackson
    CB - Revel
    S - Winston, Watts

Kaleb Johnson RB, Doyle helped coach him.  He fits the bill to be the Montegomery

Projected in the 3rd-4th round, kind of a head scratcher for me with Green still available at 56. Is Trapilo going to start?

Not sure the Bears will ever take a huge risk on character.  It might be nothing but assault allegations against Green could really bite them if he gets prosecuted.

  18. 6 minutes ago, adam said:

As a 2nd rounder, I doubt he is a swing Tackle. So Wright to LT may be a thing.

33" arms but he uses his body well.

We are going all in on Caleb, which is needed.  It's what I wanted to see.  Get the RB and the rest go D.
