Year 2 QB QBR Tracker
1.5 seasons to become a top 10 QB. That’s pretty good.

Week 11 Official Game Thread - CHI @ MIN, Nov 16th, 12PM CST, FOX, CHI +2.5
I don’t know how much of a good thing CJ has been in coverage. There were a lot of blown coverage his first game and quite a few last game. Making splash plays is good. Giving them up is bad. Hopefully we’ll see more consistency in the next game.

This time around we've got the running game that we didn't have in week 1. It will help a lot when Minn presses the LOS.

To be fair the Giants LT kept blocking inside giving CJ a free run to the QB. You could say those sacks belong more to the DC if that was something seen on film study. Still CJ has to make the play that's put before him and he did.

It’s nothing more than a law of averages. In that context it is a useful metric to compare teams once there are enough data points. Or against historical averages. Nobody is watching sports because they want to see average plays.

Somebody get me a doctor! Today Caleb was an absolute stud. At one point in the game it appeared Darnell Wright just punched with one arm and completely pancaked a pass rusher. I'll wait for the film studies to see.

Could just be related to how much he steps forward as he throws. A shorter step and your body tends to rise up as you throw leading to a higher pass. A longer setup flattens or the arc or the arm leading to a bit of an under throw. Ben Johnson made him change his footwork this year so imaybe we shouldn’t be surprised there is some inconsistency.

I also couldn't embed the video so just posted the link. It is interesting to listen to former Oline talk about what they see in the game. As good as Darnell Wright's block was even better was watching Benedet move a DB right off the field. What made me laugh was watching the trailing officials reaction to it which starts at this screenshot.

Who Won't be Here Next Season
I think he stays but on a lesser deal than he hopes to get. Other teams will also shy away from his concussion history so I don't expect him to have a big market. I wouldn't even be surprised to see 1 yr deal.

Bears trade for DE Joe Tryon-Shoyinka (CLE) and a 7th for a 6th
I watched all 3 of his highlights. He’s a poor man’s version of Dayo and Dayo certainly made us poorer.

The Ben Johnson Effect
Yes and we finally have a coach and a QB who can take advantage of it. For countless years the worst defenses had their best game against the Bears.

I can’t fathom how many decades it’s been since anyone said the Bears Oline like dominant.

The Ben Johnson Effect
When Tom Brady put up 50pts against our bottom 5 defense years ago he was heralded as: Summary of Key Games 2014 Game: Brady had an outstanding performance, throwing five touchdown passes and leading the Patriots to a dominant victory over the Bears. This game showcased his precision and ability to execute plays effectively.

I never thought I’d say this but I really hope Dom Rob gets well quickly.

Details later a lot more in the red zone. I highly doubt it’s all on Caleb with everyone learning a new offense.

Dayo Odeyingbo - Torn Achilles
I’d rather we find interior pass rush help. Not that it’s out there but that would make a huge impact for edges like Sweat.

Proves the point it’s just narrative because those teams have a winning record. Both Allen and Mayfield struggled early in their career. Allen didn’t look steady good as QB until last year. Prior to that there was a lot of hero ball. Now he can beat you both ways.

Jayden Daniels just broke his arm or dislocated his elbow (left arm) in a very ugly manner. I admired his work ethic and willingness to take on challenges head on during his college career and then into the NFL. I don't want to see that at all but he's done for the season. Fortunately it's his non-throwing arm so he'll return next season.

My daughter was watching the game with me today. We got a good laugh as she told my grandkids how she waited on his table at a small Mexican restaurant and he a bit surprised by the fact she wasn't enamored with him being an NFL QB. Time flies as that was likely 15 years ago. She remembered that he did leave her a $40 tip on what was likely a $60 tab. Maybe Mexican food is the secret to his longevity.

Changing culture is hard but this is not the Bears we saw the last few years under Flus. These guys are going to scratch and claw their way back into a game. "Play 60" is the NFL mantra for kids to get out and play but it does describe this Bears team under Ben Johnson. At this point any team we play knows they are going to have to match that. This bodes if we ever become good enough to get into the playoffs because you have to ride out the ups and downs in those games.

Media and, as evidenced over the last week, many Bears fans just do not like Caleb. We put up 47pts today and still, post game, the media was more focused on the 35pts Flacco put up. So much hinged on that fail mary from last year. Before that play it was Caleb who led the game winning drive. If you watch them as closely as we scrutinize Caleb, all of these 2nd year QBs are far from finished products. I don't know which of these 2nd year QBs will end up with the best career but I do like the progress Caleb is showing under Ben Johnson. He definitely needs to get through his progressions quicker, and clean up some fundamentals at times, but I believe that will come with more reps and familiarity within the offense.

He's not judging a pick with that statement he's judging a draft strategy. We paid the best OC $13M/yr to be our head coach. I think there was some deference to Johnson in deciding where to use the first overall pick of his tenure. For all I know that was part of the negotiation and hiring process. If that were true I'd be ok with it because I still think Ben was the best HC choice for this team. Regardless, at the end of the day Jason wanted a trench player in Rd 1.

Special Teams is a Problem
Exactly. These days 1.3m is barely above a practice squad salary.
