...and unlike last year nobody is asking Ben how he can simplify things for Caleb. At least I haven't heard one reporter ask that question. The goal is clear: Become the best offense in the NFL. Ben has the proven plan for that and the players need to get on board.

If DJ Moore is saying the defense is mixing it up and making him think it's doing far more to Caleb. This is Dennis Allen's approach but it's also not being done without Ben Johnson's approval. My opinion: Johnson isn't taking the easy road to getting Caleb up to speed he wants him to experience it all now in practice so he's ready for game day. You can glean some things from how a coach is challenging a player early on. Of course he's trying to find limits and such but that also means he didn't find the limits way back in minicamp....which is a good sign.

How the media reports the same plays Zack Pearson & @Zack_Pearson • Follow First two 11 on 11 sequences for first team offense not very good. Montez Sweat was in the backfield twice, once untouched as there was a breakdown on the line. Williams had to throw it away both times. Two completions to Zaccheaus. One PBU by Josh Blackwell on a short, Show more • Last edited 7:26 AM • Jul 25, 2025 0

This is different because they are already having the players on both sides of the ball go through what-if scenarios. Doing that on day 3. During an early 11-on-11 period, DE Montez Sweat got pressure on Caleb Williams on back-to-back plays. That was by design, according to OC Declan Doyle, to see how Williams would handle those situations. Doyle: "That's very intentional. That's trying to get our defensive pressures in against some of the stuff that we're going to do offensively. We have contingency plans for what they are going to bring at us, so the quarterback operating getting the offense on the same page as far as checking plays, checking protections, things like that, but that's all a part of the scripted practice, is trying to get the defense right with their pressure patterns and the way they're going to play coverage on the back end and then it's getting our quarterbacks used to whether we're throwing the ball or up front handling the movement with those run schemes."

Good. Tear them down and build them back up. Those of us who went through basic military training know what that feels like. Although the pay was quite a bit different.

If he was incorrect or not knowing his assignments then it’sa good message. If it’s just bottom of the roster churn nobody cares.
-
Just saw Ian Wheeler was activated. That’s good news for some RB depth competition.
-
Kpassa is in the house. We’ve reached the point where other teams former backups are not even likely to make our roster. It wasn’t too long ago we were looking at them as starters.

JJ has always maintained that he works out in CA in the offseason to be near his daughter and nothing has changed in that regard. He's done that for years and still become one of the better CBs in the NFL. That and some casual comments about other CBs getting exorbitant contracts doesn't mean he doesn't want to play. GMs have just gone crazy stupid with spending lately and concentrating so much money on so few players will not work out well IMO. I don't like guaranteed deals either...it leads to laziness and poor habits. I think it's just human nature when we have nothing to work for. DJ Moore being exhibit #1 last year.

I watch a lot of Youtube videos, tape reviews, etc. I read a lot of webpages on the Bears too plus I'll scan a few different message boards but only post here because there is merit to the content. Yet I've never encountered this majority of fans you speak of that love Poles.

Trapillo is also signed https://bearswire.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/bears/2025/07/17/bears-sign-ozzy-trapilo-rookie-contract/85251987007/

Did ESPN after alternatives? Who was the better HC candidate we should have signed? Better DC? Better OC? Better LG? Better RG? Better TE maybe they preferred Warren?

Of course I also need to see it in games but I also don't believe good performance happens out of nowhere. If we stay in the days of old where the offense is just struggling day after day then my hopes for the regular season will drop. What little I gleaned from OTAs is that Ben Johnson isn't going to tolerate mistakes nor poor effort. It's not just him either... Dennis Allen has a similar approach on the defensive side of the ball. I don't know how good our defense will be but I do know that it we have a lot of good talent and it won't be bad.
-
I think we will know this year is different with the offense early in training camp. Reporters have seen enough wishful thinking and bad performance with our offense over the years so they know what “normal” is. If it’s going to be different in the regular season it will start being different in training camp.
-
I think he gets better because his leg won't be so tired in the 2nd half.
-
I could not have asked the Bears to do more than what was done this offseason. If Caleb can't succeed with this supporting cast it's because Caleb can't succeed. I'm not expecting great things in Wk 1 because everyone is learning the offense. There should be a lot of positive drives in the first few games and consistency should be there by midseason.
-
Dennis Allen said very clearly at one of his early press conferences that pass rush comes up the middle not the edges. I know Poles got the message because he ran out and signed Dayo then Grady Jarrett and then drafted a protege for Grady in Shemar Turner.
-
46 is an insane number. Assuming that was just regular season that’s 2.7 long drives per game without a running QB to rescue bad plays.
-
I have done that and formed my opinion of: Show me. If Caleb does have mistakes in a 400yd passing game, i can be happy but also don't have a problem pointing out how he could have had 450yds. I hope is coach feels the same way.
-
This falls into the wait and see department. If this team were to really take off and look like a legit playoff contender then I'd be ok adding someone like Thibodeux mid-season. Even though he'd make us better I wouldn't do this now because there are too many questions about roster makeup to give away future draft capital. I don't even know if Caleb is the QB of the future yet.

KC, LA Rams, and Buffalo have done just fine with run-of-the-mill RBs. Saquon was something of an anomaly because most Superbowl winning teams do not have an elite RB in the modern era. Speaks volumes about how rosters are being built these days. Swift's money will likely be needed elsewhere next year and he'll get replaced by a mid-round pick. If our QB and receiving groups become what we think they can we might get away with another day 3 RB to compliment Monangai and still be ok. This offseason has been one of our best but as you said, enough with the what-if scenarios it's time to start seeing this show up on the field.

I was thinking surely they planned for this but this doesn't seem like much of a plan... https://packerswire.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/packers/2025/06/09/jaire-alexander-release-green-bay-packers-defense-2025-analysis/84112283007/ "In terms of true cornerbacks, the Packers’ depth chart now consists of a former fifth-round pick in Hobbs, a sixth-rounder in Hadden (by Kansas City), three seventh-rounders in Valentine, King and Hadden, and a former UDFA in Nixon."
