I feel like this draft is going to be the most impactful draft since Payton and or the Butkus Sayers draft. The difference is the Bears' teams back then sucked. The Bears are adding to a 7-win team that lost 3 games they should not have, and now added two top 10 players.

Comparing Odunze to guys like JSN and Olave, I actually prefer Odunze over those guys. He is going to learn so much from Moore and Allen.

Bookmark this thread and come back next January when the Bears are playing in the playoffs.

How about that '83 draft Covert, Gault, Duerson, Bortz and Dent ? Two HOF and all starters plus Thayer was in this draft but went to the USFL.

  2. My no trade Mock:

    1. Caleb Williams USC QB - Both sides seemed to be locked in so much so that Caleb is on X saying he is a big fan of Rome Odunze

    9. Rome Odunze Washington WR- This is the presumptive first pick's public choice but, if the top edge rusher is on the board , I'm grinding my teeth.

    75. Bralen Trice Washington Edge- I like how tis player played in the CFP semifinal game against Texas putting pressure on the QB and setting the edge against the run. In the championship game it looked like Michigan schemed to minimize his production.

    122. Sedrick Van Pran OC Georgia- with the moves that the Bears made in the offseason , the center position is still a mystery. So this is a pick that is insurance and long term continuity . So far Doug Kramer has not panned out

What they do at 9 is dependent on pretty much every pick from 2-8. It would be amazing if ATL got docked their 1st rounder for tampering with Cousins, which could move the Bears to #8. No team would benefit more from an ATL docked pick than the Bears. 9 to 8 would be the biggest draft value bump (equivalent of a late 4th rounder).

I'll say from 4/5 to 8. There is not going to be any punishment levied this close to the draft.

  4. I wouldn't trade up for MHJ. I also believe that Nabors or Odunze will be available at 9. Minnesota did not acquire two first round picks to stay back and wait for a replacement for Cousins. I believe 4 QBs will go in the top 10 and maybe the top 5. That number 4 pick is where the most likely spot for Harrison to go. AZ already having 2 1st rounders may be tough to move of 4 but, the Chargers with a new HC and GM may be willing to deal as well as NYG at 6. Tenn at 7 and ATL 8 aren't WR spots.

Poles has made 21 picks in his 2 drafts and I'm okay with him staying with 4 picks and will consider Sweat, Allen and Bates as part of this draft.

  5. I have read so called Bear fans comments on several other pages Sports Mockery, Bearswire, Windy City Gridiron etc. and I have never seen a more negative group. There are still fans expecting Poles to trade the top pick for a draft haul. I can't help but laugh.

This is one of the most unique draft scenario of my lifetime. Never have the Bears had a chance to draft the consensus number one QB and get a player with the confidence that Caleb Williams has. The only Bears QB I remember this confident was Jim McMahon. I'm all in and will cheer like Hell for this QB just like the rest.

  6. Some reports have Williams meeting with the Bears here after the March 20th Pro Day at USC. That is when he will be expected to submit medicals. Supposedly his camp thinks it makes no sense to share medical info with teams that won't have a chance to draft him. Its unprecedented but, I understand the thinking.

  7. I'm pretending I'm Ryan Poles and I fleeced a team last draft for a star player and draft capital. If I trade again, I make history and if I get an even bigger haul, I enter Jimmy Johnson territory.

I trade the pick to some team in the top 3 Wsh or NE for a swap plus 2024 2nd and 2025 1st and a 2026 2nd. I would also try and get a young player under contract who fits the scheme on defense and financially (Payne or Allen) are my thoughts.

This is with the idea of doing what NYG did with Danial Jones, making him ball out but, i would like the Bears to draft Jordon Travis as an insurance policy, similar to what Detroit has done with Hendon Hooker who may be prime to take over for Goff next season.

Keeping Fields in a prove it scenario is similar to what was done with Trubisky, Roquan, Mooney and Johnson.

With only 6 picks in this draft and still some roster building to be done, acquiring draft capital needs to be prioritized.

  8. Back when the trade deadline was approaching a lot of Bears fans were calling for Poles to trade for Chase Young. Since we have seen a good body of his work since he was traded to the 49ers, it looks like he is just fully recovered from his ACL tear and might be someone who could be a viable option to pair with his former teammate Montez Sweat.

    I'm going to go:

OC: Frank Reich - flat out, he's respectable and good at his job. Former QB too, so he knows what it takes and he should still have a ton of connections to pull in a good QB coach.  He also is probably not getting a 3rd HC gig, so you probably have him until he retires.  And I'd also think given his age, your ability to attract a good QB coach who can eventually become the OC is solid too.

DC: Leslie Frazier - Making up a name, but I feel like Flus will call the plays anyway, but Frazier is super experienced and has a track record as a good leader. His defenses have been all over the map, but Flus is going to call the plays, but Frazier commands respect and is a solid fit. Brings some nuances having been a 4-3 and 3-4 guy as well, so some of those unique wrinkles will be interesting.

Les Frazier is my DC of choice also knowing that he knows this defense having deployed it in Minnesota as their HC. As for OC it has to be someone who is not afraid to come in with a coach who may be on the hot seat next season. I could see both Reich and Bienemy not being afraid to come in here under those circumstances with both being owed money from their former teams.

You need to comment more, all your statements are spot on. We have never seen a complete rebuild before and this is what it looks like. It's not instant success, it's probably takes 4 years and lots of growing pains. I think Po!es is right on schedule with his rebuild plan. You, like me are just impatient because of all the losing over the years. Next year his has to start winning and year 4 it's a run to the SB. He never told anyone that was going to happen in yr 2.

I can't say I haven't seen a rebuild before since I witnessed when team president Mugsy Halas lured Jim Finks from Minnesota to become GM and rebuild the Bears. He had to build the Bears from the ground up because prior to his arrival the Bears were really bad. He started by building in the trenches. It took 3 years before they became a playoff team under Jack Pardee. He left the Bears for Washington and then Neil Armstrong was hired and brought Buddy Ryan as his DC. The team took a step back the next year and made the playoffs the following year after having 2 top 10 draft picks which sounds familiar to now. Dan Hampton and Al Harris were the 2. Poles has an opportunity to make this all better with the right choices.

  11. Mongo you are listening to rumors from radio personalities and making a comment based on those rumors. I've recorded and re watched all the preseason games and Kap has proven over the years that some of his Halas Hall sources are inaccurate.

When we see Fields in live action vs the packers we will know if his sources are true or not.

  12. The toughest thing when trying to move up in sports leagues is knowing when to go for that promotion. Cunningham may want to put a little more on his resume and an improvement with the young players acquired in the past 2 off seasons would do him good.

I think the same goes for Getsy because whatever was said to encourage Fields to use his wheels has to have been something he encouraged. If JF1 shows marked improvement in passing stats he will get Shane Steichen(sp?) consideration.

  13. Very eager to see this part of the offseason as opposed to the speculative part of the offseason. Let's see what we got. I can't believe how many so called Bears' fans are so negative about Justin Fields. He is being called everything from a bust to a RB.

Skon is going to be an all pro OG or a good LT for10 years. I think Wright has a nasty attitude which made him more desirable. Jenkins, Wright and if they draft Mauch, that's a lot of physically for an oline.

Stinger the league doesn't agree with you.

I'm not a big film watcher but, I watched him and he defends his position and doesn't attack defenders.  IMO.
