  1. Eddie Jackson is similar to Eddie Goldman. Got his " Bag" and then smooth sailing.

He has been riding that 2018 season for 3 years. The team needs to see that no one is above the team and show your worth on the field and not in the media.

  2. I took two trips to Bourbonaiss I enjoyed the trips but, nothing compares to the time I was on the Pro Football Weekly site back in my AOL days and I see a post encouraging me to join Bearstalk. And Pix I believe it was you that posted there and I came over and haven't been anywhere else since. Pix I hope you are doing well and can enjoy this upcoming season because I think this is going to be a surprise season to all of us because of the negative surrounding the team.

  3. Quinn has absolutely no leverage, so it only points to our GM making him an example for the rest of his roster. You are not going to punk me!

The scheme that the Bears are going to implement is perfect for him to do what he does best and he has never been a difference maker.

I think you stand down on this trade request!

  4. The firing via phone call while on vacation seems very odd, but also precise about what kind of message is being sent by both the GM and Coach.

A couple of players don't show up for OTAs and when one does, he's working with the second team. A highly drafted player with high expectations gets demoted to second team for whatever reason, leading me to believe it's a very new day.

The GM has made sweeping changes to the scouting staff and looks like he doesn't need a "Player Liaison" to make players talk to the coach or GM directly. IMO

  5. If you keep track of what both Mooney and Fields have said about this coaching without directly referring to the previous staff, you can tell something was amiss.

The part that keeps me scratching my head is, this team trade a lot of draft capital to move up and draft Fields and he gets no reps with the 1s during TC, if I were a GM that made that sacrifice and realized that was happening, Nagy would have been in my office and issued an ultimatum. That's why Pace got fired because didn't assert his will on Fox or Nagy when he spent valuable draft capital on 2 1st round QBs. Instead he let both coaches say Mike Glennon and Andy Dalton 2 castoffs from other teams should start ahead of the rookies. Neither rookie QB was protected by the guy that drafted them.

Oh I agree, I am just saying how the media is portraying it. I did't really think either of these things were a big deal. This one is clearly not.

I thought the Larry O thing showed them doing the right thing. I guess they could've done the physical first before announcing a deal? Maybe that was done wrong, but at the end of the day, it doesn't matter. There was not some other superstar waiting to sign with the Bears that they missed out on.

The previous GM might have stood by the signing! I like what Poles did.

  7. I'm so into embracing the negative national press about the bears because, I remember in 2019 the same media projected the Bears as a Super Bowl contender!

I wonder how many of these experts had the Bengals reaching the Super Bowl.

There are some other players that may end up being productive that we are leaving out of conversations. Blasingame,Evans, Blackson,Cruikshank,Dawkins, Mario Edwards, Caleb Johnson, Dieter Eiselen, and Tonga. These are all people that might make a decent contribution that will make and roster and play.

Tonga at under tackle is a wildcard also.

The rookie Dom is quietly getting some  first team reps and his athleticism had stood out.  But there’s nobody blocking him and I really doubt he has the strength to bend around the edge.  On the positive side coaches are saying he’s picking up the defense and is working hard on his new craft.  At this point it seems he’s not going to the practice squad without a fight.

AZ you're right. Robinson is getting some hype while in shorts and coach speak is the key to keep a hungry rookie grinding.

Monty is probably a top 15 RB in the league, but what is that going to cost? That is the dilemma. The RB salary hierarchy goes like this:

Top 8: McCaffrey, Elliott, Kamara, Cook, Henry, Chubb, Mixon, Jones - all making between $16M - $12M per year, then drop all the way to $7.8 for Barkley at #7, $7M for Fournette and Conner. Ekeler is making $6.1M.

So if you think Monty is top 10, is he top 8? Probably not. I am sure his camp is going to want something around $12M (because newer contracts will surpass his), and the Bears probably won't want to spend more than $8M (unless they believe he is an irreplaceable part in the locker room too).

My biggest concern has always been his yards per carry. Career average of 3.9. That has to improve, otherwise, I don't know if he is worth over $10M per year. Last year, in the same offense, Monty had a 3.8 YPC, Herbert 4.3, and even Williams 4.1. That should be somewhat of a red flag.

If he could do one thing for me, which would give him at least an extra half yard per carry is not to do the head juke on every play, even when it's not needed. What he needs to do is actually make the cut sometimes.

You have a top RB list without Jonathan Taylor?

  11. One option not discussed is trading for players with existing and expiring contracts that the cap space will be needed for. There may be some Colts' defensive players available next year that may be enticing to this defensive staff next year and maybe in a couple of days when the June 1st cuts hit. The Colts also are change DCs so there may be some scheme casualties from them as well. Chris Ballard is a savvy GM that doesn't tip his hand early.

I truly believe we may see quite a few transactions by the GM during this upcoming period.

  12. I watch Good Morning Football, Get Up and First Take every morning and I have not seen this story mention period! So, I'll wait but, Roquaun since drafted has exhibited a different approach to life. I don't know if everyone remembers about the stories about Roquan and the adult films star and the pictures that surfaced. I'm not as sold on Roquan as most Bear fans because of his injury history and size.

Funny thing about Pettis is that he was a 2nd Rd pick largely because of his return ability followed by his skill as a WR.  At least that's how I remember him when I watched him in college and his draft profile sort of echoed that.  The 49ers were lauded for selecting Pettis, or at least not criticized for it despite a big trade up to get him much earlier than he was valued.  Fast forward to today and everyone in the media is complaining about Velus Jones being a 3rd Rd pick and Jones offers even more versatility than Pettis did coming out of college.   At the time everyone was still singing the praises of Lynch for the Trubisky draft/JimmyG etc. so he got a pass for reaching on Pettis so he could help his QB.

"The 49ers needed to add some playmakers this past year, and they made an aggressive move in the 2018 NFL Draft to add Pettis. The team traded a third round pick and received a fifth round pick from Washington to move up from No. 59 to No. 44. Non-first round trades can fly under the radar, but it was still an indication the 49ers were high on the Washington receiver and returner."

I don't expect anything out of Pettis but he's good for camp and if there are injuries who knows how the last WR spot shakes out.

AZ please don't get me started on Lynch, he gets way too much credit for fleecing Pace for that one trade but, he is just like Elway when it comes to looking for QBs, he's never satisfied. Jimmy G although oft-injured has been decent for them and has gotten them to the SB and a play away this year from returning this year. John Lynch is the most overrated GM in the league IMO.

  14. Two players who were rookie last year who I think could step up are Dazz Newsome who looked good on special teams as a returner and a gunner who didn't get much chance on offense.

The other is Thomas Graham Jr. I felt once he got playing time he looked much better than Vildor and I think he is a great scheme fit for this defense.
