Don't you think Long will need a red-shirt year to become NFL ready? I do. Pugh was a reach by the Giants at #19. So the Giants liked Pugh better than Long . . . I said earlier Long was a terrible pick. It's not terrible. It's just not very good . . .

That's a bad way of looking at it. We only have 4 DT's but one is a pro bowler, one is a good 2nd round pick in Paea, and there's a good chance we will bring back Idonije. Our DT's are pretty good. Our OG's are pretty bad. Forget the numbers. I'm not a big fan of the pick. We reached for need.

Terrible. Absolutely terrible. You don't draft a guard in the first round. You sure as hell don't reach for a damn guard in the first round. WTF? Great pick at #50. Terrible pick at #20. Terrible. And the Bengals took Tyler Eifert . . .

Were going eifert
-
We're going DT . . . aren't we? Floyd?
-
Pugh. Bears have tons of options. Eifert? Floyd? WR? Te'o?
-
Floyd! Floyd! Floyd!
-
For Eifert?
-
Trade down! Trade down! Trade down!

Good for the reach. Good for the Bears.

EJ Emanuel goes to the Bills. I'm shocked. You figure Pitt will take Jones. That leaves Dallas and giants and then the Bears
-
Will somebody trade up to the Bears for a QB? This is exactly what Phil Emery was hoping for.
-
I thought for sure Fluker would be there when the Bears picked. Wow. It wasn't even close. Who you rooting for now? Eifert? Te'o? I think Geno Smith could play guard . . .

How's the chatting? I'm thinking about robbing my neighbor and stealing his PC Awfully damn quiet on here tonight.

Now what we need is some "reaches" to take place so some talent will fall to us. While the trades have been surprising, there have been no major surprises on picks. All the defensive tackles are still on the board. I'd have thought Star or Shariff Floyd would have been gone by now.

I'm on a Mac and I can't get the damn thing to work with Java

I never bought Kiper's draft book but I bought the PFT draft book this year and I'm loving it. I do miss the all day event we used to have. That doesn't keep me from hanging out in the garage/man cave with the Bud Light and Papa Murphy's pizza.

Agreed. I saw that and then Hub Arkush is on the SCORE talking about Te'o is a great leader and he's the main reason ND made it to the national championship game. We've done our homework on the guy and either we like him or we don't. It's widely spread he's likely gay which is part of the reason for the fake girlfriend. In this day and age, does anyone have a problem with that as long as he's good on the football field? He wouldn't be my first choice just because he has a limited ceiling based on his speed. I'd be good with the pick.

Yep. What we might get is a team saying something like they'll give us there #2 this year and their #1 next year. Most years I would say that would be great, but this team has never been so desperate to get an infusion of young talent.
-
Agreed Cracker. It costs a ton to move up in the first. And we ain't got much to give. It seems like everyone wants to move down. Why do I have a feeling we know we can get a 3rd round pick to move back a few spots? It seems like all the guys we are bringingin are late first rounders. Not guys you'd expect us to take at #20.
-
I don't see how this is a smokescreen. Glennon is a 2nd-3rd round pick. There are a ton of guys ranked higher then him who might not even go in the first round. Geno Smith, Matt Barkley, Ryan Nassib, El Manuel, etc.. Unless you are saying this is a 2nd round smokescreen. That still doesn't make snese. We'd love to have a quality #2 who will be here for a few years. By this logic we brought him in thinking a team trade up to #49 to draft him. So we can get the guy we really want at #50 . . . that's one helluva a stretch. Depending on what we find, I think we'd consider taking him if we can trade down for more picks.

Dan Pompei has the Bears drafting a CB in his latest mock. Last year prior to the draft everyone had us taking a DE. I'm wondering if the fact we want to play more man coverage in the secondary makes us more likely to take a CB.

Strange things do happen in the draft. For some reason Ogletree's stock is dropping. This always happens with guys the week before the draft. I always wonder how the hell that's happened since nothing has changed since a month ago. But it does, and more often than not, there is validity to it. A bigger issue with Ogletree is they say he's too light to play the middle in our scheme. Do we want him? I agree we need a 3rd rounder, but it seems like everybody wants to trade down.

The Suntimes reported we brought in Justin Pugh OLG-OLT from Syracuse. PFT has him ranked as a 2nd to 3rd round pick and the 10th best O-lineman regardless of position. Reading the tea leaves, it seems as if we want to draft an offensive lineman, but not in the first round. This is WAY early, but playing the numbers game, we will keep 8 offensive linemen on the roster. Bushrod, Slausmon, Garza, Carimi, Webb, Brown, Britton, and Scott immediately the most likely to make the team.

That doesn't mean he's the worst, it just means there are 9 guards rated ahead of him. I assume Chance Womack is #1 and Cooper #2. PFW says he's a freakish athlete with first round talent. He started college as a DE and the knock on him is that he was only a starter for one year. He could be a guy we view as a project.
