  1. Understood. But Im sure you understand my point.
  2. Let me preface that I actually like the guy as a candidate for HC. BUT his overall record during that time is 63-66 (you didn't count the four playoff games he coached). Not really eye-popping. Unless you consider the previous two years before he was fired he was 22-10 to include a 2-2 record in the playoffs. What, other than his health, was differnt that last year?pp
  3. I think it relevant to say that Kubiak was successful in getting Forsett into a viable running back after losing Ray Rice. And when in Houston making Ben Tate look like an all around carry the load back. (I know I was fooled). At any rate, I don't get the warm fuzzier as I do with some other HC candidates but I could see him being a good hire. For the record if he's hired I hope he doesn't bring Schwartz or Phillips as the DC. Hell I'd like Dick Lebeau long before that.
  4. I had plenty of foresight when it came to Cutler. Or don't you remember? I was one of the few here that originally saw fault with Cutler when Trestman was trying to implement his offense. Sure, like you and others here I believed Cutler could be the answer. But when finally they brought in a coach that had the "QB whisperer" pedigree and endorsements by HOF QBs who played for him and he (Cutler) still failed, I lost that awe. I fact I was one of the few (if not only) that asked for McCown to play in Cutlers stead to much ridcule (thanks Lucky Luciano). Yet when McCown came In to play he did pretty darn good. Yes I hated the loss of Urlacher and part of that was what I deemed as Emery's egotism getting in the way. I didn't want much for Urlacher just for him to be able to lead the defense for one maybe two more years. Sure he might not have produced at the level we were accustomed but there's no doubt he could lead. The precipitous fall that followed was all but predictiable. All I said was I wished we could have gotten more out of somethig that was proven rather than change course 'just because'. Losing Lovie after a 10-6 season seemed stupid to me and especially does after what we've witnessed these last two years. Losing Urlacher was similar especially since the defense crumbled as much as it did.
  5. Maybe you didn't hear Pace when he said he wanted to get back to traditional Bear football with a strong defense and a strong running game? Sound familiar? At any rate I think it cute the two of you agree. Fact is fact and Lovie had a winnig record while here. Since then the team has gone 13-19. This only two years removed from you Stinger saying how optimistic you were with Trestman/Emery. History seems to be repeating itself...at least for the moment.
  6. I don't think he's any worse than most of the rest is the starting Centers. But have to wonder would it be bettet to move him to G then put DLP at center and draft a hybrid C/G? I'm more for the idea of trying to keep as much as you have in place and draft only out of necessity. Is that 'necessity' more on offense or defense?
  7. Beg to differ on the lack of talent aspect. I think the current offense is loaded with talent; Bennett, Forte, AJ, BM and Wilson as are the defense. It's just the coachig lacked purpose and direction . Especially on the defense. You have to consider that half the defensive starters were rookies and second year players without a lot of leadership. I don't think the team is necessarily on the precipice of having to rebuild. Just a few players, tweaks and the right coaches could turn this around easily enough.
  8. Garza started out as a G and moved to center full time when Kreutz left. Still have DLP on the roster So having him as C makes the most sense. He's still got a few good years.
  9. Connor, I actually still live in Alaska but have family living in Woodstock.
  10. The more I listen to him the more I like. He's still a little green for my liking (at 37) but seems to have his head screwed on straight. As others have said some of the decisions he has to make In quick succession; HC and Cutler status will help shape his characteristics. In the interviews I get a feel that he's purposeful and a pretty genuine guy. I do like that he played at Eastern Illinois, his dad lives in Crystal Lake (near where my family is) and apparently his wife's family are HUGE Bears fans. And he has a profound respect for Bears tradition. Good luck Ryan!
  11. BM made minor news last season in comparison to others when it came to discipline. Martellus Bennet during training camp, Briggs and his restaurant, Briggs and his sleeping (or at least admittedly zoning out) during meetings and Tim Jennings recently all make BM look like a choir boy. Just because he may have yelled at a player or two and possibly questioned Jay out loud after a game doesn't tell me he's a "cancer" but more passionate about winning and pissed because they weren't. So if "reports are coming out of the locker room" then it's because a few folks' feelings were stepped on. And I don't think BM has ever "self-proclaimed" his leadership. He just provided and opportunity for others to join him in off season trainig and they (AJ and Wilson) followed. And you know what? It seemed to pay off.
  12. I'll double down on this. (Or triple since Cracker Jack said it first). Anyhow the fact that not only does he display great leadership (off season workouts with others, sideline and locker room) but he's still functioning at a high level. No way do you consider letting him go. FWIW, I wouldn't put a lot of stock into the exchange between Gould and BM. Gould has been known to lip off in the past. (Hester and he arguing on the sideline s few years ago being one example). And as most of us who have played know that if a guy like a kicker/punter starts getting edgy, we're going to tell him to shut it.
  13. Exactly. He's a cut and run type of guy just like Petrino. No thanks.
  14. How long did it take you to form this opinion of Emery? http://www.talkbears.com/forums/index.php?...41&hl=Emery
  15. Whether or not this source knows really what is going on is only guesswork. But IMHO a person who is considered an "insider" is more what the Bears needed, ala Ballard. The fact that he could identify what was wrong within the organization should be telling. He might have been more adept at identifying and rectifying those issues than say a Pace. Being more a traditionalist myself and hiring someone who is younger ergo "progressive" is pure mumbo jumbo. He still needs to prove himself and I'm not sure the Bears is where he should have done it. But as before I'll give him a fair shake. What else am I gonna do?
  16. Something doesn't sit well with me on this guy. Smells too reminiscent of Emery. Guess we'll see. Maybe he'll keep DLP and Bushrod which will help in keeping OL intact.
  17. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/...rs-on-thursday/ Saw similar story on a differnt site that made it sound as though the Bears were in line to hire Bowles. But didn't add the reason why Atlanta was moving their interview date. This does. My money is Bowles goes to Atl. Does this indicate though that the Bears may announce their GM today? *Edit: whoops, Connor or another admin may want to merge this with your previous post. I just saw it.
  18. In most states there is an "implied consent" agreement you sign when you get your license. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Implied_consent
  19. He may not have been over the legal limit (.08 in most states) hence why not breath results. But my guess if he was in fact doing 99 in a 55 (or whatever it was) the reckless and speeding will stick. Especially if there was a smell of alcohol in the vehicle. Either way, stupid choice on Tims part. Hopefully he'll come out and apologize. He seems to normally be an upstanding guy.
  20. Totally agree. The only reason a team would consider him is due to his "Johnny Football" stardom and the hope he'd bring people to games. Unfortunately he'll also have similar Johnny Football results in the NFL. If Carr wasn't in Oakland is see him going there. Maybe he'll end up in Washington or Dallas instead. Their owners like this type of player.
  21. Suspect all you want. That isn't fact and doesn't get you a whole heck of a lot other than guess work. Sure TB had its problems last year, but to be fair it was Lovies first there. And now he's in line for Mariotta and possibly Trestman as his OC. Speculatively speaking, if I were a TB fan I'd be pretty excited.
  22. What? Who is this guy? I'm finally settling on a guy like Ballard and they introduce another person? My hope and guess is to murky the water a bit for potential suitors to Ballard or to Ballard himself. To make him a little more open to negotiations when he comes in for his interview.
  23. Couldn't agree more. As many here have pointed out their dissatisfaction with Bears ownership, at least they're not Snyder level bad. Similar to Jerry Jones or Al Davis. Ugh. That being said if this Ballard character gets the GM job I have a concern with potential toxicity between he and a coach like Shannahan. Shanny has had a taste of personnel management (above HC) and might prove difficult to manage for a newly minted GM like Ballard. Now I've been a fan of Shannys as head coach since this started but with what I'm hearing about Blallard I'm getting a sense it might be better to go with a less experienced HC. That be the case and IF Ballard gets the GM job I'd have to say either Bowles or Toub would be my two preferred choices before Shanny. Of course being a part of the interview process would alleviate some or most of that concern. That's why if Ballard is made GM he'll be entrusted to make the best choice. And from what I'm hearing that may not be so bad.
  24. He's in my top two at the moment (after Shanny). I'd still like to see him as a DC first. Afraid he'd bring that circus astmosphere with him. But with Chicago being his dream job maybe he'd be a little tempered and respect the tradition better than in New Jersey.
