  1. 1. Play calling has been horrible

    2. OL has been bad

    3. Trubisky will always be a one-read QB

    4. That slow-mo, telescopic lens replay of the INT was horseshit

    5. I’m sick of watching the opponent on 3rd&8 or so, and seeing the DBs 10yds deep

    6. I’m sick of seeing the Bears’ WRs Never wide open, but the Saints - and every team the Bears play - seemingly have someone open every other play

    7. Blow this whole thing up. Pace, Nagy, both need to go. Fire sale trade players to get draft picks if needed. Revamp the whole thing. The whole “let’s hold the other team to a low score and try to get a turnover while being passive on offense”-strategy doesn’t work. Even with one of the best defenses of all time it didn’t work for Lovie, who is a great defensive coach.

  2. Bears 17

    Saints 30

The Saints jump on top early, as Kamara is unguardable/unstoppable. Brees picks the zone apart and there is nearly no pressure from the Bears’ front four. Bears are forced to blitz and get torched as a result. One or two huge plays and momentum clearly rests with the Saints going into half. The second half continues with a virtual stalemate because the Saints are just running clock.  The Bears score late to make it look closer than it really was, but the Saints are high-giving on the sideline as it happens, because it doesn’t matter.

I dunno if this is just trying to gain leverage, or he means it, but apparently Watson is following Chicago weather forecasters on twitter LOL

If Nagy and Pace get one more year, can you imagine them trading the future to get this guy to prove that Nagy was good and it was Trubisky that was the problem?

And do you think that would work?

To me it sounds like it would just cost us the chance to get more OL, and other players, and end in the same result.

I think he's just posturing. Probably pissed about the DHop thing. And I think you're right about the draft picks. He'd end up running a lot more in Chicago than he has in Houston.

I'm simply looking at a possible SB window in the next 2-3 years if we can get the defense to return to it's former dominance. I absolutely agree that we need to find our own solution and would want them to also draft a QB.

How about just next year's 1st round pick?

    Peace

That would be more tolerable, but I'm still not a fan. IF this team were closer, as in one or two key pieces from being a contender for the next handful of years, then maybe. But I just don't think this team is built like that. I think there is over $40M of dead cap next year in Foles, Quinn, and Leno. On top of that, the top five cap hits next year are on a defense that couldn't get off the field against GB to save their life. In fact, the defense was confused!

Either draft a rookie or get a really young guy.

Side note: Deshaun Watson can be added to the poll above. He's unhappy.

  5. The Saints playoff game could very well be his last as a Chicago Bear. If he's a good QB, an NFL QB, wouldn't he want to truly display that for a future employer? Wouldn't he want to have a small piece of film to use to say, "The Chicago scheme severely limited me," and prove his actual abilities?

If I'm Trubisky, this is the time to open it up. I'm going for a new contract with a different team, because the time in Chicago is almost certainly over. I'm trying to make a highlight reel to impress GMs who think that not only is Chicago where WRs go to die, but it's also where QBs go to die.

If I'm him, on nearly every 50/50 opportunity, I'm throwing it up to give my WR a chance. If I'm him, when there is a read between a check-down and a deeper pass, and all other things are relatively equal, I'm going deeper every time. If I'm on the bootleg and nobody is immediately open, I'm tearing ass downfield trying to show versatility. There have been multiple games this year where he did not run, and should have.

What I'm saying is, he really has nothing to lose. If he gets hyper-aggressive and succeeds, he just got a bigger contract and an excuse. If he does it and fails, everyone will still think he is a one-read QB who has accuracy issues downfield.

I voted for Mayfield but I am intrigued with the idea of trading for Stafford if Detroit is willing to part with him for a 1st and a 3rd.

    Peace

Intrigued? Maybe. For a 1st and a 3rd? Absolutely not. Stafford is going into his 13th year in the league. The Bears should give up a 1st and a 3rd for a guy who only has a handful of years left, and likely doesn't have the same type of success in Chicago as he did in Detroit? No thanks. The Bears need to get out of the habit of attempting to find sloppy seconds, and actually find their own gem who will stick around for a decade or better. Otherwise that same old "this is how many QBs the Bears have had since the Packers had Farv and Rogers"-graphic gets displayed until we're old and gray.

Five pass plays over ten yards and only one completion.  One interception.  The coaching staff does not have more faith in him than that game plan was the best he could handle..

Great post. I quoted you because that graphic needs to be seen multiple times.

Yeah Ryan Walter Pace is an idiot.

Philly is a hot mess. How can a franchise go from model franchise with SB win to this clown show? They couldn't even win a division with 7 wins and we got in playing with the #1 seed in our division. Howie Roseman was the Exec of the year in 2017 and look at this team now. That award is hot garbage, the 2016 winner was Reggie McKenzie of the Raiders, Roseman in 2017, and Pace in 2018. None of those franchises are in the top 10 of the league.

To be fair, Reggie McKenzie got fired at the end of 2018, likely directly related to the Khalil Mack trade. Which is odd, because the tide is turning for many in regards to whether or not the Bears actually got the better on that trade given how infrequently Mack's name pops up with big plays.

But back to the point, Ryan Pace is an idiot.

Yeah, if you could plug in any GM, HC, DC, and QB and have similar, if not better results, what's the point? This franchise has severely underachieved with the opportunities it had. It starts with the front office and ends with scheme and play calling on the field. How many times to do we have to watch a square peg try to get pushed into a round hole?

That's hilarious! I hadn't thought of it that way. The Bears could literally hire just about any combination of GM, HC, DC, and QB as they have now, and get similar results to those they have now.

    Dreaming Big here:

Trade Mitch and three future 1st rounder picks to Cincinnati for number 1 pick 2020. Mitch gets a fresh start in his home state while Bengals start rebuilding.  Bears select Joe Burrow and and then use the two second picks to bring in OL talent. Address other needs via draft and FA.

Nagy then has one season to work with a Franchise prototype NFL QB. Assuming he is not extended, Jim Harbaugh’s contract expires at Michigan in January 2021.

HELL NO. That’s a horrible idea. The Bears need MORE picks, not less. And it’s arguable that a better pro WB May be there when they draft anyway.

When you condense the field to ten yards,  all defenses can look good.  Trubisky has shown that he can't go deep on an acceptable level.

Bingo. I called the late Trubisky INT 2-3 plays before it happened. It may have even been on the first play of the drive. As soon as they were behind and needed to stretch the field a bit, the INT was inevitable.

One last thing; Nagy reminds me of the movie Waterboy and the other team has his playbook

🤣😂🤣 I can see Nagy thinking he has figured out some genius play and trying out a water boy because the play is soooo good. 🙄🙄

Could have taken Jalen Hurts with either of our 2nd round picks. I like Kmet, but would be happier with some hope at QB.

Damn right. I hated the Kmet pick. Nice game today, but I hated it. And with Jimmy Graham, it proved not to be necessary.

Holy crap, I can't believe my original post was from November 1st. It's crazy that it's literally the same old song and dance every week. What a shit show. How is this guy still employed? Let him say his goodbyes in the locker room tonight and announce he is gone tomorrow. Same with Pagano and Pace. They have to go. There is no point waiting until the end of the year. Let Lazor run the offense, an Asst get experience as DC and put Defilipo as Interim HC.

The crazy part is that it’s 2021 and it’s STILL the same old song and dance. They absolutely have to be fired, and Trubisky needs to go somewhere else.

Other than the Kmet (questionable) fumble and Triubiskys near miss at the end of the game, the offense is doing well.  They were playing smart Bears-type ball-control offense.  But with GB being able to do as they please on offense, won’t matter how good the Bears O plays.

Weird to have to be worried about the D playing well.

Just milking the clock is not enough. I thought they were playing OK, not well. Playing well would be exploiting GB weaknesses and getting large chunks here and there. Playing well is not grinding it out and going for it on fourth down 5 times.

  16. Some sites have Jones listed as a mid-round pick. Apparently the league's GMs aren't sold on him as NFL-capable. I think once the QBs start going off the board, there will be a QB frenzy and the Bears will have trade partners ready to leap.

I'm hoping for a trade down into the end of the first round, pick up an extra 2nd and an extra 3rd, and then a Mac Jones selection at the end of the first just to be sure.

Round 1 Pick 30 (BUF): Mac Jones, QB, Alabama (B+)
    Round 2 Pick 20: Rashawn Slater, OG/OT, Northwestern (A)
Round 2 Pick 30 (BUF): Sage Surratt, WR, Wake Forest (A)
Round 3 Pick 19: Liam Eichenberg, OT, Notre Dame (A-)
Round 3 Pick 29 (BUF): Phidarian Mathis, DT, Alabama (B+)
    Round 5 Pick 20: Zaven Collins, DE/OLB, Tulsa (A+)
Round 6 Pick 20: Michal Menet, C, Penn State (A-)
    Round 7 Pick 4: Monty Rice, ILB/OLB, Georgia (A+)

So there seems to be 5 very solid QB prospects this year. Trask reminds me of Big Ben, 6'5" and 240 is a tank back there. Mac Jones has really impressed with a crazy completion % with the average over 12. Trask has a ridiculous QB-INT ratio, 38-3 is mind boggling good. All these guys are at least 6'3", all have better comp%, AVG, and TD-INT than both Mahomes and Watson, which is impressive. The assumption is Lawrence goes #1, but looking at the raw numbers, he has the worst comp% of the group, lowest average, and is in the middle of the pack for TD-INT. His biggest factor is his size at 6'6" and experience. I will need to watch some tape on these guys but I would not be disappointed if we got any of them. I feel like at worst you are looking at a decent NFL starter.

    Trevor Lawrence - 69.2% Comp, 20-3 TD-INT, 9.7 AVG, 2431 yards - 38 G, 6'6"
    Justin Fields - 78.1% Comp, 15-3 TD-INT, 10.3 AVG, 1407 yards - 31 G, 6'3"
    Mac Jones - 75.7% Comp, 27-3 TD-INT, 12.2 AVG, 3113 yards - 26 G, 6'3"
    Kyle Trask - 71.4% Comp, 38-3 TD-INT, 10.1 AVG, 3243 yards - 24 G, 6'5"
    Zach Wilson - 73.0% Comp, 27-3 TD-INT, 11.1 AVG, 2964 yards - 28 G, 6'3"

    Patrick Mahomes - 65.7%, 41-10 TD-INT, 8.5 AVG, 5052 yards - 32 G, 6'3"
    Deshaun Watson - 67.4%, 41-17 TD-INT, 7.9 AVG, 4593 yards - 38 G , 6'3"

Lawrence is not in range, unless Pace trades up again (I'll kill him).

    I'd love Jones or Trask.

    Just say no to Fields.

The one constant is Diva Wideouts rarely drive success. It is why I have kind of said overpaying for Robinson, as solid and quality as he is, just isn't worth it. Teams just don't seem to win at high clips having a ton of salary cap space tied to the wideout spot. Tie it to the pass rushers, db's, line and QB.

On the same token, save money on RB. Emmitt Smith will forever be overrated to me because he ran behind the best OL of all time. And I can't remember all the nobodies like Olandis Gary that Denver trotted out for 1,000yd seasons behind their awesome line and blocking schemes in the mid/late 90s.
