Sold. Bring in Carroll. He’s got the undeniable pedigree. Check the rings. He’s got swag. He controls a room with Pat Riley vibe. Pay him, give him full authority, and get the F out of the way.
Poles and Carroll can talk draft. After that, get the F out of the way.
Warren? Never heard of her. Get the F out of the way.
McCaskeys? Seriously, sign the checks and get the F out of the way for good.

These are not all of them, but the Bears stacked their OLine and DLines for the 85 Team, using 5 1st rounders in the trenches, with the others being McMahon, Gault, Marshall, and Wilson. So 5 out of 9 in the trenches, all others were starters at their positions.
1979 #4 - Dan Hampton - DE
1981 #11 - Keith Van Horne - OT
1981 UDFA - Jay Hilgenberg - C
1983 #6 - Jimbo Covert - OT
1983 #91 - Tom Thayer - OG
1983 #203 - Richard Dent - DE
1983 #219 - Mark Bortz - OG
1985 #22 - William Perry - DTThe Bears hit on every 1st round pick from 79 to 87 (Harbaugh), then the wheels fell off after that (Muster, Wendell Davis, Woolford, Armstrong, Carrier, Stan Thomas, and Spellman.
Give me that 1983 draft. Still amazed every time I see it. Hit after hit after hit. Only a random TE sticks out like a festering zit on an otherwise unblemished face.

Bears Franchise Record (Passing Yards)
1. Erik Kramer, 1995: 38382. Jay Cutler, 2014: 3812
3. Jay Cutler, 2009: 3666
4. Jay Cutler, 2015: 3659
5. Jay Cutler, 2010: 3274
6. Caleb Williams, 2024: 3271 (2 games remaining)
This one is crazy. Even with moderately successful games, say 200yds a game, he moves into third ALL TIME.

It’s prime time.
It’s Thursday night.
It’s Seattle.
The Bears are in complete shambles.
Seattle 30 - Chicago 14

I think we definitly need someone to work with Caleb but if Johnson fails as a HC we wont be much better than we are right now. Caleb has the talent that will shine thru whether its with the perfect OC or an average one. A good defense and running helps Caleb just as much as a perfect OC.
Ugh. When are Bears fans going to stop this mentality?
With all due respect, the Bears need to go absolutely all in with Caleb. Absolutely Everything should be for his progression, protection, and advancement.
Just good enough for an OC won’t cut it.

I hate seeing anyone injured, but he was not the answer, and so this forces us to address the position.
Concur. No injury means people will think he was a possible answer, which he wasn’t.

Maybe we should have a bad football thread to co exist also. Campbell makes some good decisions that look good and bad decisions that doesnt work out. In certain situations some things work and others would not be successful. A great play design could be blown up by a penalty but still would have been a good football play. Kramer blow up a perfect red zone play on a penalty and then when they did it again it worked out.
That thread will be far too long on this board. We have decades of plays to choose bad football.

Never said I wasn't going to fix the Oline. In my fantasy GM world I'll have $90mil to spend this offseason and I'm not bringing back Keenan Allen. I've seen Jeanty just blow through so many tackles where plays weren't blocked up perfectly. When the blocking is good you are going to get some big chunk plays. Plus he can catch out of the backfield...he's that guy you'd take in any 1:1 situation and a perfect safety valve for Caleb. I can still draft a good DE and DT prospect in Rd 2 and a Center in Rd 3. I can fix IOL in FA. That does leave concern at LT but Braxton is actually a good run blocker, Jeanty and an OC making better use of play action will help reduce the edge pressure.
I just can’t justify burning a first on Jeanty considering Swift’s contract, and the other, obvious holes on the team. This team needs huge help on both lines. Until the lines are fixed, the other players considered skill players on each side of the ball can’t fulfill their maximum potential.

Almost forgot, Caleb Williams needs to understand everything can’t be solved with force. Every throw can’t be a fastball. He needs less Clemens and more Maddox. Reminds of a funny line:
"It is until a mosquito lands on your testicles, when you learn that force [violence] does not solve all problems"

SEA might have lost Geno Smith, DET looks very beatable, and GB may rest starters in Week 18. So the Bears could have 3 winnable games to close out the season.
If the season ended today:
WC1 MIN at LAR
WC2 GB at TB
WC3 WAS at PHII don't think anyone wants to face PHI, but the other two games are very winnable in LAR and TB.
Hopefully not. The Bears don’t need to Lovie one or two of the meaningless games and ruin draft position.

1. Keenan Allen can leave after this year. His hands are terrible.
2. Whoever is calling defensive plays maybe should have thrown in a blitz or two in the first half when Sam Darnokd looked like Joe Montana.
3. Whoever is calling offensive plays should be fired. The schemes are unimaginative, extremely risk averse, and do not combine routes in such a way as to confuse the defense. If I didn’t know better I’d say it was Shoop.
4. Caleb is holding the ball too long when people are open, but I wonder how often they’re open.
5. Did Kmet get cut? Haven’t seen him play all game.
6. Why did they not go for the early FG? It was long but it set the tone the entire game.
7. Interim HC definitely is in over his head.
8. why didn’t they challenge the Darnold lefty pass? I don’t think it went past the line of scrimmage.
9. Why did they give up so early? The entire 4th quarter has been like molasses. Maybe they forgot about the Redskins game and what can happen late.
10. OL still isn’t very good, but weren’t horrible. The entire offseason should be focused on FA and Draft OL until Caleb Williams can take a nap behind the OL before throwing.

Also, I have never said a rebuild takes 2 years - what I have said is that if after two years you know someone is not getting it done, you don't have to wait the full 5 to see the result. Flus showed us who he was last year. We should have fired him in the offseason, instead Poles kept him.
If Poles wanted to fire him the, and was not allowed to fire him, then whoever said he wasnt allowed to fire him should be removed from football decisions.
It's not hard - if you cant see that one of the 6 worst coaches of ALL TIME is fireable after last year, then you have no business making football decisions.
And this isn't hindsight. I said this past offseason when Flus returned that if we didn't look good right out of the gate, it would and should cost Poles his job. I said it was a mistake at the time.
So far I've been on record saying:
Charles Leno sucks
Justin Field sucks
Waldron sucks
Flus sucks
Chris Morgan sucks
in each case you said it was too early to tell and we should give them more time. Well Caleb doesnt have more time. If we dont get this together fast, Caleb will hold out and demand a trade. This is not the time time for "aw gee, let's give poles more time" it's time for bold action. Bring in some winners and let's go.
I dont even really want to give ben Johnson the benefit of the doubt. He might well be an excellent head coach, but we dont KNOW.
Get Vrabel, let him suggest his choice of GM and OC, and lets go win.Love this one. Although, I still contend that while Caleb obviously has the “It Factor” as a passer, Justin Fields had a similar presence as an overall threat. He was just good enough as a passer, and absolutely electric as a running QB. What he never received was consistent support via competent coaching or blocking from this trash organization.

Truthfully, I dont disagree with you, i just dont think the Bears are firing him, so I roll with the notion he is going to be here.
Agree. Poles should probably go, but the Bears won’t do it. He will get one more year to ruin Caleb Williams’ future by putting a franchise 1.1 QB behind an OL of dudes who should be working at Hardee’s.

I was a major "no we wouldnt, we dont know what they know" guy, and I have to admit it. Youre right.
It SHOULDN'T be that way. They SHOULD have more info than we do, and they should outpick us. But they don't.
Maybe we are smart. Maybe they are dumb. Maybe the McCaskeys hire morons because they look for beta guys that don't threaten them. I don't know what it is.
But on the good teams in this league, the GMs should know more than we do, and do better than we do. But I gotta admit you're right. We have absolutely sucked at picking players, and I believe there are several people on this board who could have done better. And probably some who would have done worse too LOL
But this has been a long simmering debate, and I'm going to call it, and say it clearly - you were right.BTW-I’ve always contended that it’s just for the Bears. Maybe a few other perennial losers. But not applicable to the Niners, Ravens, Steelers, etc.

His 2nd punter he drafted in 3 years. Great use of draft capital. Auto draft using a big board with BPA picks would've yielded a better team after 3 years.
That’s why I’ve been saying for nearly two decades that fans, particularly hardcore fans, would do better in a draft than the Bears front office and coaches.
Then year after year several retort, “No you wouldn’t! You don’t know what they know!” And then 3,4.5 years later, the team still sucks, the draft picks haven’t panned out, and people continue to hold the line on the side of the team.
its time to face facts: fans could have drafted better teams over the past 20 years or so.

we dont need a #1 pick overall this year, we have a QB. I mean dont get me wrong, the "haul" would be fantastic again, but Id rather see us win some games and see Caleb developing than to have a higher pick.
Another thing to consider is that if we got a top 4 pick, we'd almost have to use it on a pass rusher, whereas a #8 pick or something would go to OL. There are trade down scenarios too, but QBs and Edge rushers are worth their weight in gold.1000% disagree. Absolutely all resources need to be focused on OL. If there isn’t OL worthy of where they pick, then trade back for OL. Period. Full effing stop.
The game today was disgraceful. Nearly every drop back the pocket went from capital C to lower case c in a second or less. No Qb consistently succeeds like that, let alone a rookie QB. What’s worse, it potentially ruins a rookie QB and makes him gun-shy. We know this from experience multiple times.
All eggs are in the Caleb Williams basket. Supporting him is the first, second, and third priority.

I haven’t watched much this year.
But watching just one game should be enough of a reason to fire this dude.
3rd and short, Bears jump offside.
OL can’t pick up stunts.
OL caving in every play and there are no outlets or quick passes.
Horrible replay challenge.
Franchise rookie QB doesn’t slide when in danger on the sideline.
Catastrophic end of game clock management.
That is ALL COACHING. He deserves to be fired tonight.

We wont know the effect of the change for a few games, but at least they are admitting, its jacked up. From what I hear, part of the problem Waldron was giving to much responsability to Caleb, allowing he to change plays and call line adjustments. You cant give him 4 options every play , he keeps trying to go downfield to much with a bad line.
Keys: run the ball-30 times
2 TE sets to help with blocking / RPOs
Only give him 2 WR options dump offs to TEs, leave back in to block.
Roll outs and designed runs
I don’t know why it’s so difficult to understand. We’ve only been saying this for years.
The roll outs and designed runs is what kills me the most. Fields was lightning in a bottle, and they barely ever rolled out. Williams isn’t exactly slow, and yet it’s 99% drop back.

PFF is OK for next gen stats with inputs from regular stats like completions, yards etc.
But when it comes to player eval, thats all on their eyes, and they were the same guys telling us that Charles Leno was one of the best LTs in the NFL.
Im not even saying they are always wrong. Im saying they are random. It's not even the same person grading them. These just too much chaos in that system to have any kind of reliable output?
If you want to know how Jones is doing, just watch the tape. Hes getting pushed around way too much, and Caleb is getting crowded in the pocket way too much.Concur. PFF is trash in OL grades if they think Jones is in the middle of all starters. That’s nonsense. I know what my eyes are telling me.

When I became happy for getting CW, those werent the records I was hoping for.
But this is precisely why I, and those who agreed with me, didn’t want CW drafted at #1. The OL problem would still likely exist, and that proved to be true. And we couldn’t truly tell how high Fields could have ascended with proper protection. Will always be true because he’s not in Chicago. And the huge draft yield from the trade will never be known, but the rumored picks were franchise-changing.
It’s really early, and it’s just like we said with Trubisky and Fields, but I hope the Bears protect CW don’t ruin his future.

100%. I don’t understand how they look so bad. Tell the OL to form a wall, stay in their lane, accept incoming stunts, have the TE stay in to create double teams, and use the RB as a “blitz spy” to chip any stragglers who sneak through.
-
100% Fire the OL Coach. Immediately.
His replacement should be a guy with a thick neck, cauliflower ears, anger management issues, and fierce loyalty. Someone who headbutts linemen after pancake blocks, then coaches a series before getting stitched up. And behind closed doors? He not only pays for fines, but pays bonuses to his crew for nastiness.

Kiran can play OG but with him having zero experience there in the NFL to adjust to the speed and power I'd be really nervous putting him there. If we have to rely on him at all I think he'd find it easier on the outside.
Please tell me we aren’t back to the days of moving Chris Williams to OG, a natural OG to Center, and a Center to OT.
