Week 4 Official Game Thread - CHI @ LVR, 9/28, 325pm, CHI +1, O/U 47.5, CBS

As ugly as this was I have to say that TD drive for what became the winning score showed a lot of determination and grit. These kind of wins are important I building character and enforces the fact that you don’t quit fighting till the clock hits zeros. I was worried about this game because of how we manhandled the cowboys last week. were it not for all the takeaways we wouldn’t have been in this. It sucks to get all those takeaways and have very little to show for it. Aside from the turnovers we got little if any pressure. And we let a struggling Raiders run game look dominant. At time we show no desire to tackle. The big plays (takeaways) are making these issues. offensive line struggled to give Willams time to throw and again got no push in the run game. The run game has been non existent so it’s not just today. This has to get better. I know we had backups in there. Crosby is an absolute menace. Didn’t realize how tall and big his wingspan is. He put on a clinic batting down passes. That was a tall order for a backup tackle making his first start. -
A loss like that always stings and like others have said there's plenty of blame to go around and sometimes it's hard to look past the frustration of seeing us lose a game we should have won. Bad call/phantom penalties were a factor but good teams play through that and just fight harder the next down. They are no doubt frustrating and there were some doozies in this game at critical points in the game that helped the Vikings come back and win. Again not the reason we lost but definitly salt in the wound. Offense struggled to take advantage of opporutnities. Shooting ourselves with presnap penalties (4 false starts in the first half alone). No consistent run game at all. I felt like we were often behind the schedule putting us in long down and distance situations way too much. The timing of plays didn't feel consistent either like we were making it more difficult than it needed to be. Ben Johnson will not be pleased. On Defense I feel like we started out strong and had their offense rattled but as the game wore on I don't know if it was conditioning or what but we started getting sloppy and undisciplined. Tackling got poorer and poorer, defenders out of place. McCarthy looked lost in the first half but looked like he had all the confidence in the world in the second half. "Special" teams.... more like special ED. Can't think of anything good to say here.

I'm liking what I'm seeing as this coaching staff is coming together. I admit being worried about the sheer number of people interviewed and many on that list being awful options that George was going to again tie Poles hand and we'd not get a highly touted prospect like Johnson and end up with someone I'd have to convince myself to be ok with. Johnson is a first time Head Coach but he's coming from a winning culture and knows what a real NFL offense looks like. He does not seem to suffer from the "smartest guy in the room syndrome" We've had way too much of that. He strikes me as a guy who sets the bar high and expects a lot out of his players and pushes them. Now again, this is all on paper and till we see it on the field we won't know. What I'm looking for is not just how things go this coming season but can we have sustained success. Remember Nagy came in in 2018 and the team took a leap and we thought the future looked bright, but we know how that turned out. Johnson is inheriting a lot of talent on this roster that's been miss managed so I could see a vast improvement in year one. It's year two and beyond that will tell if he is the right man for the job. Love the Allen hire as DC as well. The key as others have pointed to is that the OL and DL coaches will be critical. Especially the OL. We have got to fix the OL or we're not going to go anywhere. We need better coaching, and better talent. IMO Poles has to get this right this offseason between the draft and FA. We cannot keep doing the patchwork plan it hasn't worked and it will not work. If Caleb has any chance to see his full potential here this has to get fixed or at least greatly improved.

It really is sad. A prevailing thought I had this season before I quit watching the games was that there is far too much talent on this roster to be this bad. That is both on the players for not playing up to their potential but a lot of it is on coaches for not being able to get the most out of their players. The Bears always like to talk about how good the culture is but in reality the culture seems ok with mediocrity and losing. I see a highly talented team playing very undisciplined football which tells me there has been no real accountability or setting a high expected standard. At this point I firmly believe that George can't help himself when it comes to meddling. The only reason Eberflus's name should come up in a post season presser is to note that he was fired because he was bad at his job. For once can this franchise be honest and call a spade a spade and not try to sugar coat it like their fan base is just a bunch of homers that will believe whatever they are told? Dude should have been fired last offseason. We always do things so backwards here. Last offseason would have been a perfect time to reset the coaching staff. Now Caleb will go into year 2 after a disastrously chaotic year one. He will have a new HC, new OC, QB coach etc. He'll be back to square one. As a longtime fan I have diminishing faith we'll ever get that right baring dumb luck. The Bears could write the definitive book on "How to ruin or kill your QB." Caleb's success going forward will depend highly on who the coaches will be and how resilient he is as a player and if he can put this past year behind him.

Just leave Flus in Detroit. Every week we find a new dumb way to lose. The moment we took a sack with 20 or so seconds on the clock you call the time out. Regroup and call a play to get a closer for a FG. Pint is we had the ball in field goal range down by 3 with time on the clock to try to win it in regulation. Not only do we play ourselves out of that possibility, we screw up so bad that the clock hits 0 with a time out in our pocket. At the very least we should have been able to force overtime. We are the laughing stock of the nfl.

Week 10 Official Game Thread - NE @ CHI, SUN 11/10, 12PM, CHI -6.5, O/U 39.5

Well one thing for sure you can start whatever D/ST is playing the Bears. -
The Cheifs also have the zebras on their side.

It was clear from the start that Washington came into the game with intensity and the Bears came in flat and sluggish. It took more than 3 quarters of play to wake up. There is plenty of blame to throw around. The only thing that kept us in the game was our red zone D. And some key stops late to give us a chance. Play calling was bad through and reared it’s ugly head at the least opportune times especial with that goal line trick play in a potentially game deciding play. What made that play wise was had the defender not been touched no one chased the play down. Watching a group of slow defensive players jog to the end zone is embarrassing. We need to figure out a way to start faster it’s like we always start slow. We could have gone into halftime down 21-0. We struggled to overcome a 12 point deficit. We nearly snatched victory from the jaws of defeat. it’s one game but this should serve as a learning opportunity. You don’t get to face the jags every week. We have to play better from top down if want to compete in our division and conference. I guarantee the Lions, Packers, and Vikings will put up a fight. We will have to be able to elevate our game when things get tough. That’s what winners do.

Week 3 Official Game Thread - CHI @ IND, 9/22, 12pm, CHI +1.5 O/U 43.5, CBS

When you upgrade everywhere but the OL this is what happens. Dumb dead ball fouls, horrible pass blocking and run blocking. Play calling was supposed to be better this year with Getsy gone but not impressed in the least by Waldron thus far. 1st and goal inside the 10 and we run, run, run, then try to get cute. We gave up a sure 3, and didn't even allow Caleb to throw there once... Caleb needs to step up and settle down too. His deep ball accuracy has not been great aside from the one deep throw to Rome, which he then followed up with an INT. Not even sure where to start to fix this. It's been a disappointing start. If you would have told me that Williams first TD pass would come in the 3rd Quarter of the third game of the season I would have called you a liar. But here we are with an offense that invested heavily in the skill positions and we may have a more anemic offense than we had last year. -
Isn't Bill Murray a bit old to be playing football 🤪
-
Another thing to consider is the Bears and Bengals had joint practice. So the Bengals D had live practice reps vs just film of the bills game on Caleb. He definitely seems to be pressing it early. Kudos to Flus for keeping him in there to allow him to work through it and settle in. It turns out he ended on a high note which should help for the confidence factor and teaching him patience. He'll find that balance, he's already showed a lot more "Pro Ready" attributes than we've seen from a Bears rookie QB. We very well could finally have gotten the QB position right! Do we think he'll play at all this coming weekend?
-
On a side note what time and channel(s) will the HOF Ceremony be aired? Seeing Hester, Peppers, and Mongo inducted would be worth watching. Still annoyed that they took too many years to to put Mongo in. It's sad that in his current state he's not able fully celebrate being inducted. He deserves better.

Chicago Bears training camp begins next week, July 16

I think you're right, and it's more about the spectacle of it than a holdout, or some sort of disagreement. Can't wait to see training camp start and the season to start and we start to see what this revamped Bears offense looks like when it's no longer just on paper. -

Thing is we don't know what's going on behind closed doors at the negotiating table. We have speculation, educated guesses, and comparisons but we really don't know. We do know that Poles was all in on CW, and we've seen draft day and post draft day that CW by all appearances is all in on Chicago and has bought in. As a fan I'd really like to see these deals get done. There is still time to get it done, it is hard to stay patient and trust that it will even though deep down I believe it will get done. and we'll be fine. -
At the end of the day when the real competition starts this will all be good for Caleb. When he had is first rough day throwing lots of picks in 7 on 7. It was all over social media about how he got benched for Tyson, and the comments full of so called fans calling him a bust and patting themselves on the back for calling it. Sorry but if you're a fan you want your team to succeed, not rooting for opportunities to say "I told you so". People love to feed into the narrative of the Bears past issues with finding a franchise QB. I find it sad that so many out there are just hoping he fails, whether it be they wanted to keep Fields, are just haters of the Bears, or Caleb, or whatever. This was in May, it's now the first week of June. We're not even at training camp yet let alone week 1. He's going to have his ups and downs and a learning curve. I'd rather him take his lumps now and learn from them in prep for the upcoming season. Part of what makes this situation so ideal for a 1st overall QB selection beyond the weapons around him on offense, but he also gets to practice against one of the better D's in the league and a very talented secondary. I'd rather he go up against some the best in the league week in and week out in practice if it makes game day that much easier and makes him that much more prepared. As for Hard Knocks I'd rather it not be a potential distraction, but, in reality Hard Knocks isn't what it used to be, and neither are players in today's league. They all used to cameras, being filmed, etc. Caleb is no stranger to media attention as it was clear most of his college career that he'd likely be a high 1st round pick whenever he came out, if not the top QB prospect in the draft he'd be in. With or without Hard Knocks it'd be naive to think the Bears wouldn't be in the media coverage more heavily this season because of this past offseason and draft including Williams, Odunze, etc. The added spotlight this Bears team will have surrounding it this season is something they'll have to learn to deal with it and handle it. Hard Knocks is only part of that added spotlight. The other aspect about it is the Bears have editorial control over what makes it on air.
