How can a head coach whose strength is on defense be this bad in the last 2 weeks?

I agreed with moving on from Mack, Smith etc. because we would be in a great position in the salary cap, but this defense is bad. It’s going to be a long year whether or not Fields manages to make great strides later in the year.

Fields probably should have bailed on the play immediately on ran because it opened up.

I know we are disappointing that Fields has not turned into a star, but we don’t know the actual play that has been called. Do we know that Moore is the first option in his progression, he should be, however Getsy may want to be cute thinking he is the greatest offensive mind in the league. I hated the screen pass and why didn’t we take a play out of the Bucs playbook with Moore faking to go deep and then coming back to a ball that Fields has already let go. I don’t know if we struggled yesterday having Mooney leave the game. I would like the offense to pass further down the field and only use screens occasionally at least until Davis and Jenkins return to be active.

What are your thoughts on how the secondary played today after Brisker came back and Jackson did not return? I thought Jackson was terrible v the Packers.

This drive started looking good until there was a free run between the centre and guards. This line is shocking and don’t think we can get a decent assessment of Fields until we get average play from the line. I don’t like Patrick at centre because he gets run over on pass rush and is weak on run plays. Only marginally better than Misiphar.

Missed our first drive of the second half and unlucky we couldn’t recover the fumble and then whiffed on Evan’s touchdown. Hope it’s not going to be a long season.

Considering the heat and injuries not a bad first half. Agree Fields needs to go through his progression quicker because he has open receivers. Shame we’ve gone away from Moore and if he’s doubled Mooney or Kmet should be open. Maybe need to let the backs get out of the backfield to become short distance receivers.

I turned it off after Fields fumbled. Here are my thoughts. 1) The middle of the oline is terrible so we need to move away from being run heavy. 2) Jackson is useless and should be cut but can’t because of his ridiculous salary. 3) We cannot rush 4 because we will be killed. 4) It’s ridiculous trading for Moore and Claypole and not using them. Same with giving Kmet a new contract. 5) Need to have Fields throwing deeper throws and establish if he can be a top 10 QB. If not use him as a RB and go in a different direction. Finally please I cannot stand another season like last year. Yesterday was really hard and if we weren’t stupid we could have changed the narrative with Green Bay. I still cannot comprehend why we don’t play starters in the preseason. Our players need the reps and what difference does it make if we get injuries. It cannot be worse than last year or yesterday.

Shame we gave up our no. 2 pick. Would have preferred giving up the other no. 2.

Our view of the draft picks is blurred by the poor results of Emery and Pace. I hope that Poles is an antithesis of them and fingers crossed his success rate will enable the Bears to build strong rosters. I’m happy with taking the best player available and not reaching. Other than picking quality players my biggest hope is to not lose any draft capital next year. I’m happy that we took Fields last year and it looks a good and great pick considering this years quarterback crop but we need to build through the draft and losing picks through moving up in the draft and trading for players causes difficulty. I struggle with how compensatory draft picks are awarded. I Poles knows how to utilise this area of the draft and we start getting some. Maybe this is due to our poor drafting but the successful teams seem to get 2 to 3 picks extra picks annually which doesn’t seem fair.
