Cutler will be a 22.5 cap hit If we cut Peppers we we will save 14.1 against the cap We are up against the cap, so Clayton is probably right on. We have dead money carry over from the last 2 years. He mentioned Carmi, and dont remember the other two, so none of us were looking at that. Cutlers contract is full bore the first 3 years and then after that, he costs us nothing, the only QB contract that doesnt have later years costing the team cap money. He stated players we can cut and save money; Weems Bennett Peppers Bush He stated we probably wont have enough money to bring in a top tier defensive player, and we will only be signing our own FAs if they come back at our price. So if he is right we will be making one medium cost player to add to the defense.,resign some of our own, draft hopefully 3 starters on defense, and a whole bunch of 1 mil players like we did this year. So we are only deaming if we think we have wholesale changes on defense. I think we can hope for the best of having 4 new starts and a bunch of the same. Our younger players have to better. DE new guy, Bass,SCM,and some of maybe own back. DT drafted player, Paea, and maybe some of our own back, 1 mil signees. LB, Bostic,Greene, Briggs,SCM and maybe a cheap FA. CB-Frey,Jennings, some of our own and a couple of draft picks S-Conti,draft pick, FA, some cheap FA signings. The most important thing we need to do is add a defensive team leader, and playmaker. DE,DT,S,CB, I think we take the best player available in that, it has to be a playmaker.

Were looking at this from the outside, and I think they have a plan. Its not our plan. They will be creative and as SCS stated, a top and medium paid starters to defense and hopefully grab 3 starters in the draft. If we get rid of Briggs, it will only count 1 mil. against the cap and save us 4.5. We cant be as GOD AWFUL as we were this year. We need to let them do it and see what happens. They will fill the roster with the Andersons, Williams type 1 mil players like this year.

The details of the contract are not public yet, so anybody can assume what they want. The three years of 54 is simply front loading the contract so in three years if it doesnt go the way they expect, they can cut ties with him and no cap hits. Any large contracts they might sign players to now, they can back load contracts to take the biggest hits when Cutlers contract gets easier. Stien has always been good with the cap, so I think they probably have things figured out going forward. They did it quickly so they know what they have to spend , so I suspect they have a plan on who they want. Cutler got what QBs get in modern NFL. I read an article on PFF and it had Jay ranked in the top 10 this year for QBs, and they is how they paid him.

Paying Cutler will limit us on many big signings. One pass rusher and will go after the 1 mil. contracts to add the depth. The draft will be key, have to get 3 defensive starters out of it. I think with SMC going to OLB and Bostic also, Briggs may be on his way out. He will only cost 1 mil. against the cap. I think it is time to get rid of our old crap and bring in some new crap to get our dandruff up.

At least they see what we see and will adjust whether it works out, time will tell.

If we didnt give him that someone else would have. I dont think it is worth it, but the only QBs in the league earning there money are Brady,Brees and Manning. All the rest are overpaid. They didnt screw around and now know what they have to work with and to go after who they want. This is the modern NFL, all we can hope for now is Trestman gets Jays shit together and we can talk about playoff games instead of opinions on Jay.,

I heard it was guaranteed at 54. So for the 1st 3 years we pay 18 per and after that it is a play per year, so his cost is gone. I like the fact they addressed who they wanted and got it done. Now they know what they have to spend and will judge their signing accordingly. It aint my money, and it doesnt really matter what I or you guys think, the only one that matters is Trestman wanted him. I trust him.

Since your a ND guy,they have two gems this year in Nix and Truitt. Would not mine if we had either on team next year.

Those would be good additions. When we have a good defense we always have had good pressure from the front.I am for drafting HaHa and grabing a NT in the second round. McCullens from Tenn is a huge ,man.. Then getting a pass rushing DE,in free agency, like Johnson, Bennett, Jones, Orakpo, there are several out there we can get for the money we save from cutting Peppers. I think we need a team leader like Troy P.,or Reed were as great safeties, and would get that with HaHa.

I also think Tillman would make a good FS, the problem is he has stated no desire to play safety and someone will be willing to pay him more money than we will. IF Lovie gets the TB , I see him going there. Let someone over pay for his services and move on.

A few more observations to add: Jason is spot on HaHa in the first and the NT would be there in the second. Switching to the 3-4 would give us the opportunity to still get some mileage out of SCM. Grab Arthur Jones if we switch to a 3-4 as a DE. I think C. Washington comes more in the picture in a 3-4, he is built for that OLB in that scheme. I think one of the things the defense was lacking in there spiral down the tubes was defense team leaders. I think from what I read HaHa would become one of our leaders in the Troy P. mode. I think Briggs was a sorry leader. The last two games, our defensive team leader failed to address the media after the games and bailed on the rest of the team in that role. So if we switch to a 3-4, he doesnt really fit in to that scheme, so I would have no problem, letting him go. 1 mil in dead cap space and a savings of 5.5 mil in cap space. Plus will be his last year of contract and you know he will be pining for an extension. Go out and grab Orakpo to fill his spot. In the 3-4 we have Cornelius Washington and Orakpo as OLB, Bostic and SCM at ILB, McCullens and Ratliff at NT, and Arthur Jones and Paea at DE. In the backfield we have HaHa, and will have to completely rebuild the rest with the draft and FAs. We have almost have nobody that can play that scheme left on the roster. These changes will not make us a great defense but go along way from being as bad as we were in 2013

I dont agree with everybody he has on there, but well thought out. He starts out wrong with the money, we save 9 mil, if we cut Peppers, he has it as 15 mil.

Would love that draft, but from what I looked at the NT could be a late first round or early 2nd pick, probably doesnt make it to the 3rd.

I think the smart thing to do is tag him and it gives us one more year to evaluate him. I sure dont want to go back to QB hell, and it becomes more of a risk if we let him go for that to happen.

The Cutler debate will go on all off season and I am already tired of it. The fact is if we keep him, Im ok with it, or if we draft a high QB prospect and keep McCown,Im ok with that. We have a long way to go with the defense and probably need to spend our high picks on defense.

If we are picking 15 we have a chance to get Nix,HaHa, or Hagemen.As of now I think we need a team leader so we grab the Safety and grab a DT in the second round.

I think we need to sign Bennett/DE and TJ Ward for free agency and then we still need to draft a S,DT and MLB. Jason was on track with his draft proposal.

I would think Ward would be cheaper than Byrd, we will probably have to go that route.

Wow , I thought you were the only nice guy on here, cool. Its not so much the team as there fans SUCK. For what ever reason I think we win today. I think the fact we got embarrassed last week, everybody has been focused this week. The key to the game will as usually be TOs. I think a rusty Rodgers will throw a couple, and we hold there running attack to under 130 yards today. Cant believe I think a 130 yards is a good day for a defense, but for ours its being granted sainthood.I think the score will be 27-16 and we winnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn. Always an optimist.

I would love a stud S, we need a need team leader on D and that would do it. Also I like the idea of a tackle machine at MLB, I think Skov would be that and then move Bostic to his natural position Briggs holds now.
