  1.

Again, great points and post. Well, we both agree then that the problem is JA. Like I said in an earlier thread, Martz and Tice haven't had the tools to do the job. You're not going to rebuid a '57 Chevy with an allen wrench as your only tool. Martz' offense, including Tice's line, need the players that fit that offense. I question Martz' play calling, but I despise his lack of adjustments more. If passing the ball 40 times a game isn't working then change your plan.

This game is based on adjustments. If on 1st,2nd, and 3rd down you only pick up 3 yards a play, you have to adjust to get a 4 yarder in there somewhere. Keep the ball moving. The main issue I have with Tice is not getting False Start Frankie off the field. How much worse can the back up be? I mean really, if the back up is THAT BAD, why does he have a job.

As far as Lovie goes, I question his leadership because his subordinates (assistant coaches) don't make those adjustments, then he's left with the sticky booger on his finger. If he's able to get the players to buy-in, why can't he get the coaches to buy-in as well? It's not entirely Lovie's fault, because I'm not one who throws the coach unde the bus when the team's not performing, but when you win every couple years and get as far as we've gotten thos couple of years, then start shitting the bed the next, there is a problem.

  2. It just seems to me that it is way to early to think all doom and gloom. Detroit is a beatable team and they have some tough teams ahead of them. And I feel that there is no way in hell Detroit will win the next time they play us in Chicago. Everything rests on these next two games. If the Bears can beat a pathetic Vikings team here in Chicago, then win at what could be considered an extra Home game in London against a mediocure Bucs team....the Bears could still have a competitive season. Their Record will be 5-3 by week 8 which was exactly where it was last year. I've got faith in Tice and that the guy can work wonders with the crap he's been handed. He got the job done last year, and when Carimi is back in the lineup we'll see improvements again.

It just baffles me that fans will think that it is so easy for an organization to fire managment less then a year after giving them extentions. Angelo and Lovie would have to cuss out Virgina McCaskey and take a dump in the middle of Hallas Hall in order to get fired this season. Even then......I doubt if the family would just let that money they spent go.

The only wonder Tice has worked since he got here was making the fans wonder what the hell took so long to bench False Start Frankie. And the comment about Angelo taking a dump is priceless, however you said that while he's squatting with half a turd hanging out of his ass in the lobby. He might be trying, but his best blows and it's obvious he doesn't have a clue.

  3. He has done better at more seasoned talent (Cutler, Peppers etc), but not as much as cultivating whats around them. Lastly, Lovie needs to stay. The reason I believe this is that the players believe in him. I don't know how many times I have heard players (current or otherwise) that continue to come to his defense. The fact that PLAYERS do this, means a heck of a lot more than FANS who continuously call for his head when the team begins its slide.

First of all, great post Grizz. I agree with most of your post with the exception of the following points:

Yes, Angelo has picked up some quality talent as you said in Peppers and Cutler. But he has missed more often than not in that regard. For every Peppers there's a Roy Williams. For every Cutler there's a (take your pick) Manumaleuna/Taylor/Merriweather, etc.

I believe this falls solely on JA. He picks the talent and he picks the coaching for that talent. Lovie to me is an average coach who does enough to get by and enough to get an extension when the time comes. Contract was running out on Lovie, Super Bowl appearance. Contract running out again, NFC Championship game. Lovie Smith, to me, is Bobby Cox of the Braves. Good coach who could only get over the hump once in 20 years.

JA picked Tice, Martz, and Marinelli to coach these players. We essentially have 3 other head coaches on this team with a combined coaching record of 95-100 (Marinelli 10-38, Martz 53-32, and Tice 32-33). With all this coaching "expertice", one would think we would have a clue on how to make in-game adjustments. If you go 3 and out on 3 straight drives, fix it. If you're not getting pressure on the QB, bring more pressure. If your RT is starting 3 huts before the snap, get his ass off the field. Especially when he does get the snap count down and doesn't block anybody.

Yes, the players stand up for Lovie as they should and as they have to if they want to continue to play. They also stood up for Jauron. But let me tell you something, General Custer's men stood up for him too and that didn't work out so well.

  4. When you see a team in the division play a 4-3 defense better than your team does that worries me. The Lions rotated D-lineman in and out of the game much better than the Bears have ever dione in Lovie's tenure. When your best safety runs past plays looks lost on other plays and appeared to be running at half speed and after the game when asked questions about the teams performance gave this response"Idonno",I'm worried.Mon. Nite was the first time that I was ready to admit that our defense is old and that old myth about them being better on turf went into my Weber with my charcoal.

Its a sad situation when I see the current safeties on this team and ask what was so bad about Daniel Manning?

BTW Frank Omayale has surpassed Bernard Robertson as the False Start record holder in Bears history.

WAY TO GO FALSE START FRANKIE!!!! Congrats on your accomplishment, good luck on your endevour of allowing the most sacks in NFL history. Ya D-Bag.

  5. Well, for starters, they could have thrown the checkbook at either Logan Mankins or Matt Light. Or both. It would have been tough for NE to compete in a bidding war with another team for two of their players.

I'd go into more detail, but the possibilities are nearly endless. The point is, more could have been done. A lot more. This is a good source (just look for OG, OT, C):

That's what gets me. It seems like JA didn't try at all. Randle El is better than what we have, Houshmenzadeh is better than what we have at WR. We could have revamped the line and still and money left under the cap. This regime blows and they aren't getting better at all. They do just enough to get by, but fellas, getting by ain't winning games or Super Bowls.

  6. Thank you for saving me the time of replying. Anyone rationalizing this OL into something other than "one of, if not the worst in the NFL" is either not watching the games or completely lying to themselves.

They're not even worthy to be in the NFL after that performance. I was truly ashamed of that display they put on. The referees needed new whistles after all thos false starts.

  7. Manning is no Hester. Discount his contribution all you want, but don't belittle his greatness returning kicks by thinking anyone could do it. That kind of talent is simply not found as easily as you make it seem.

He just needs to be solely employed as a returner.

Agreed. Best returner EVER!!! Wasn't even a WR at the U, why try it and why keep it when it's failed?

  8. Yeah. I highly doubt Lovie goes over to Tice and tells him when to put players in and out. If so, he'd have to do that the entire game with multiple positions. If that's the case, then why would you have assistants?

Sorry Brian, but Tice has the handle on who is in and out on the OL.

Lovie is over-rated. moreso than Tice.

  9. I agree

I honestly don't think we will win 8 games. 7 is stretching it.

    Minnesota W (3)

    TB L

    Philly W (4)

    Detroit L

    SD L

Oak L (Because it's a later game on FOX)

    KC W (5)

    Den L

    Sea W (6)

    GB L

Min W (7) only because it will put us in the middle 10 of the draft rather than the upper 10

We need to clean house because we absolutely suck balls and this performance was down right pathetic.

  10. 1. Ha! No way! Hester didn't help, I agree... But Hester should also not be foreced into the O like he is by JA and Smith. he should just be returning kicks and punts and line up on O every once in a while for an odd play or 2. But the O line and D completely lost the game for us. Hester can't be miracle man every week. If we didn't have him, we'd be 1-4. If you drive him to the airport, I'm picking him back up and driving him back! ;)

    2-8. 100% agree

    :cheers

I was disgusted the whole game. Cutler played his ass off and the ESPN crew actually did a great job pointing that out so kudos to them.

Jay and Forte...If it wasn't for them, we would have gotten our asses handed to us 30-0. If I were them two, I'd leave as long as JA is in charge. Unless they're playing for the money, it's like getting in the ring with Tyson in his prime.

I was excited about Harris playing tonight...HORRIBLE. It like going on a date with the girl you've wanted for a long time then when you finally get a chance with her, she has a fake leg.

Hester...DAMMIT!!! Catch the ball. If you absolutely cannot make a play, don't force it!!!!

OLINE...They know the damn snap count...they're in the huddle when Cutler tells them...WTF?!!! Omiyale has to be the absolute worst player in Bear history if not NFL history. He can't play dead. He is a disgrace and should've been cut before he showered after the game.

The defense, I hate to say it...is way past it's prime. Yes, the DB's suck but we always had LB play. Tonight, the LB core looked old. Jahvid Best rushed for a buck sixty and looked amazing.

I will give props to DJ Moore. Nice pick and and a huge tackle on 3rd down.

Coaching staff...what a collective bunch of morons. How do you burn a timeout, lose a challenge, not gain a single Goddamn yard, in a span of 4 seconds?

HORN THE WHOLE F'N TEAM NOOTS except Jay and Forte.

  11. I like the results thus far, but I just wish that same style of play and play-calling could give the Bears a big enough lead to feel comfortable. I know I don't feel comfortable yet, and the Lions could be ahead with a single play.

We have to keep pounding the ball. We need more pressure on Stafford. This is his first time on the big stage. If we get to him, he can rattle and make some more mistakes.

  12. God, its amazing how running and ball control leads to winning at the half. Good playcalling so far!!!!

Just need a little bit better blocking from the OLine to give Jay some time. They are killing on run blocking...it helps that we're bouncing it outside and using the Lions' aggressiveness on D against them with draws.

  13. It might mean that some of these guys need to hold on to the ball when its thrown to them. There is only eight games on this kid's resume and he played with Enderle at Idaho. He is eligible to be on the PS because he hasn't played in nine games. This signing has nothing to do with the other things that need to be taken care of. Besides there has been no official announcement yet.

    He caught 12 passes n his 8 games...and fumbled 3 of those 12!!!! Bad choice, if that's JA's point.
