  1. Bienemy is hard for me, because unlike Frazier and Reich, Bienemy has an end game to become a HC. So I think there is risk bringing in a guy who really is a hired gun looking to be a head coach. Whether that brings "in-fighting" etc, I just don't like what it means. That isn't to say there is a problem with someone trying to be a HC, there isn't, but I think if you hired a younger OC who was really looking to create a name - they wouldn't have that same ability to undermine the HC as say a Bienemy. Note: I don't think Frazier or Reich would. In both cases - they seem to be at the point that they aren't getting considered for another HC opportunity. In Reich's case, Flus and him also have/had a pretty strong working relationship where you just wouldn't expect to get undermined like that.
  2. I'm going to go: OC: Frank Reich - flat out, he's respectable and good at his job. Former QB too, so he knows what it takes and he should still have a ton of connections to pull in a good QB coach. He also is probably not getting a 3rd HC gig, so you probably have him until he retires. And I'd also think given his age, your ability to attract a good QB coach who can eventually become the OC is solid too. DC: Leslie Frazier - Making up a name, but I feel like Flus will call the plays anyway, but Frazier is super experienced and has a track record as a good leader. His defenses have been all over the map, but Flus is going to call the plays, but Frazier commands respect and is a solid fit. Brings some nuances having been a 4-3 and 3-4 guy as well, so some of those unique wrinkles will be interesting.
  3. So knowing Flus is the guy, what would each of you want your staff to look like (OC & DC):
  4. Warren was quoted a few days ago stating that he was with the Rams with Dick Vermeil and he saw how continuity impacted them and how they went from year 2 to year 3 (that was when Warner emerged). So Warren seems to think consistency is big. You could even look at Michigan - 4 or 5 years ago, they wanted to move on from Harbaugh (he even had to take a paycut), but he stuck it out and got the team to the point where they are now clobbering OSU on an annual basis. I will be honest - hiring Reich would make me pretty happy. It may not be sexy on paper, but he's super experienced, has had a ton of success (both as an OC and HC), and is probably not going to get another HC job. So the possibility of a 5+ year run with Flus and Reich running the show isn't awful. Quite frankly I think Reich would be the best OC this franchise has had in 20 years. The only one with a better long term track record was Martz, who in all fairness, had his offense playing tremendous until Cutler broke his hand diving to tackle a Charger player on an INT return.
  5. Reich is a very competent offensive mind so I have ZERO problem with this hire. He also has worked with Eberflus and I believe there is a lot of mutual respect, as long as they can get past the fact that their reporting lines have reversed (ie Flus is now the HC and Reich is the Coordinator). Reich also, if you believe the reports, was all in on Stroud but ownership overruled him.
  6. I'm curious what sort of OC they bring in, as I do think there could be certain "Tells" with the hire. For example - do they bring in a Greg Roman. If they do, that would lead me to believe that they are going to run it back with Justin and maximize picks and basically give this entire regime one more year. If they bring in a Frank Reich or Thomas Brown (young OC) - I tend to think he's going to look another way and you are likely bringing in a young QB and starting over. In this case, I think the franchise is saying, you know what, we like Flus enough that we are going to give him at least 2 years for him and his OC to build this with a #1 pick (you can't be like half in and say we are going to kick everyone out a year from now - that just can't work).
  7. Greg Roman is probably the route I go if the Bears are staying the course with Flus and Fields.
  8. And I’ll go further - I’ll say 3 years of playing time. So love is just finishing his first season…look at his stats the 2nd half of the year…td to int ratio is spectacular and his receiving corp has no one elite on it and there best running back was most of the year.
  9. I’ll say this as succinctly as I can. If after 35 starts you have to squint and project that he can somehow be the guy…than he isn’t the guy. Ocassionally someone gets annoited early and than fades….but no one in 20 years has gone the inverse and very few that are the guy after 3 years don’t end up near the top of the list. Think of all the best qbs in the league - by end of year 3…no one was questioning whether they were the guy..all the argued was are they the 3rd best or 6th best qb or the 2nd or 3rd best in the league. Mediocre qbs are a dime a dozen and don’t move the needle. I won’t tell you who the next elite one is…quite honestly I don’t think any nfl front office understands how to project qbs…but I do know I want a great one and I don’t want bears to stop until they find one….once they do I want them to create a culture to where they are ready to find the next one and build a true process for nurturing qbs.
  10. No cause he has flashed enough to keep trying. But I do think there are legit questions when it comes to Trevor. He has also in fairness been playing on one leg and battling a ton of injuries.
  11. This is something I wondered. Would bears make a quiet and quick push for a big name vet. If they don’t like what it looks like than they stay put.
  12. Does he really - I just don’t believe Chargers ownership with do it.
  13. Same thing I said about Fields. Flus is okay and I give him fair credit and I root for him, but he isn’t good enough and I’m not tying a new qb to him unless the Bears go with a vet qb.
  14. They haven’t beat any good teams. I respect Flus but football is a tough life and given a reset at qb (if they go that way), you got to reset the coach. Conspiracy theory - Is poles buddying up with players more him making sure the guys know him and he gets em so they know the GM has their back when a new coach ultimately comes in???
  15. I agree. Bring a Leslie Frazier as the DC and get an offensive minded head coach. I still say go pay Harbaugh.
  16. Wasn’t arguing - more stating - Love isn’t tier 1 and Fields is worse. Why we would build around Justin when we have multiple assets to improve the position puzzles me (not saying you are saying that - just my 2 cents). I personally am still in the camp - if we go with a new qb, we need to bring in a new coach. Unless they go sign Cousins or something like that. Oh and I’m not saying the qb has to be at 1-1, maybe they do it at 1-3 or wherever. And I’m still fine with drafting an early one and sticking with Fields and making them earn it (probably better for that to be a 2nd rounder though if they go that route).
  17. Bryce can read defenses twice as good as Fields.
  18. Yet he is better than Justin.
  19. Yet he is better than Justin.
  20. He can’t read defenses. Anyone that runs a zone heavy scheme clobbers him. And he looked awful and slow yet again.
  21. Eye test - he was throwing times and making plays with his arm. And when it mattered most he played incredible. And Texans receivers were all hurt but Nico and they still were able to do enough. Some make excuses - some turn lemons into lemonade.
  22. It’s been three years. No excuses was my mantra to start the season and I finish it the same way. Point blank - he’s a likeable dude but he is NOT good enough. In no scenario should they move forward with him as our starter. He can’t beat you with his arm and his style doesn’t make other better. He is not a multiplier.
  23. I’ll tell you what…I watch Stroud play and think, Bears don’t have a qb like that. How can anyone watch Fields and see someone like Stroud. And it isn’t like the Texans were some loaded team. Some like excuses, but elite qbs make everyone around them better. I don’t think Justin makes anyone better - but I do admit he has elite physical attributes. In my mind, to win and ask sustainably win, you need a guy like that.
  24. I do think if they traded with Raiders for example - you should get 2 future firsts plus.
  25. The bears also benefit from trading for a haul in sense that you will have a few high picks who are cheap which make up for paying a qb.
