  1. Gordon hasn't been great, but man, it's gotta be tough coming in to play CB on a team that has noooooo pass rush.

That's why I think it's so important to invest heavily into the lines. It all starts up front on both sides. You have good lines and it makes everyone else look better.

    If the tradeoff was:

    one of Carter or Anderson

    vs

two of T'Vondre Sweat, Peter Skoronski, Jaelyn Duncan, or Isaiah Foskey

To me, it is hard not to like two top options, especially if you can get one of each OL and DL/DE.

That's tough. In this hypothetical,  did they get Payne and/or Davenport? In this case, give me option 2, if not give me 1. This team desperately needs an IMPACT guy on the DL.....not a good player...an impact player. Someone that's gonna force teams to pay extra attention to which is gonna open things up for the rest of the defense.

I get it, but do his traits translate to the NFL?

That's actually an interesting question. I absolutely think he's gonna be a monster, but there is a legit question about him as a DE in a 4-3. He's a little undersized, but so is Micah Parsons and he played at an all pro level when asked to play DE. I think if you add a guy like Payne next to him, the defense is gonna have to pick their poison as far as who they are double teaming. If you can get Williams out in some space 1 on 1 he's gonna dominate no matter whether his hands in the ground or not.

I haven't paid enough attention to the DL under Flus, because we'll it's been bad, but I do wonder if they are open to having their DE out wide a bit more like Seattle and other teams do/did. I believe they called it a joker DE.

I'm not sold on them being generational talents.  When I think of generational, it's a guy like Miles Garrett or Joey Bosa.  There defensive linemen get hurt at a very high rate, so if there is a shadow of a doubt whether they are elite, I gotta trade and get more.  I'll do more homework on them.  It would be better for our draft and/or trade value if they have it.

Mile Garrett- 141 tackles 47 TFL 31 Sacks

    Joey Bosa- 148/51/26

    Will Anderson- 204/58/34

I like to take the starting 22 and rank them backwards to figure out the worse position groups. On defense, for me, it is DL and CB. The worst starter for me is Vildor-CB, then Pennel-DT, Gordon=CB, Muhammad-DE, Adams=LB(in 4-3), then probably Robinson-DE. Jones is probably next, then Morrow, Jackson, Sanborn, Johnson, then Brisker.

On offense, Mustipher is the worst, then Borom (if starting at RT), then WR3 (pick one), then there is probably a big blob between Whitehair, Kmet, Mooney (as WR1), Montgomery, then Claypool (WR2) and Jones, Jenkins and Fields.

Pulling the bottom of both groups, I would rank the worst: Vildor, Pennel, Mustipher, Borom, WR3, Gordon, Muhammad, then Adams. So the biggest upgrades are at 2x CB, DT, C, RT, WR, DE, and LB.

I really hope they do more at WR. All the top teams have a top flight WR (BUF-Diggs, PHI-Brown, DAL-Lamb, MIN-Jefferson, CIN-Chase, MIA-Hill). Of the top 10 WRs in the league, only 2 are on losing teams (Adams and Olave).

Payne seems like the biggest no brainer. I hope they sign him. The front 7 needs at least 3-4 new starters.

If Getsy is back, I really think they keep Patrick at OC. If that is the case, do they even sign anyone to the OLine? I guess it would only be RT if Leatherwood does not pan out.

I only like to consider the top 3 rounds as starters, so they need to sign 4-5 top FAs to fill all the biggest needs.

We will be adding in the draft and FAgency. What moves does Poles make that will give us a winning season next yr. We cant fill every spot so we figure 9 new starters.

Lets say we get the 2nd pick, 56, 65, and 101. These are picks that probably will give us starters from day one.  Anything in the rest of the draft will just be gravy if they end up starting.

With 135 mil, in cap space,  I think he makes 2 big signings, and 3 midland signings.

For sake of argument we resign Monty to a 3 yr 19mil deal. I am using OTCs valuation numbers + That have Monty at 5 mil value

We resign Morrow at 3/24, OTC valuation at 8 mil

We bring back Armon Watts, Josh Blackwell, Harry, Matt Adams, D Evans on min deals.

We bring back Blasingame, DHC, Pettis for 1-3 mil per yr.

We cut Patrick and Al-Q Mum that will cost 2 mil in dead money but save us 8 mil.

    In free agency our signings are DeRon Payne/ 12-14 mil a yr... Elgton Jenkins/ 8-10...Marcus Davenport/ 8-10...Marcus Pocic/ 8-10...Austin Hooper/ 5-7 mil

    In the draft 2) Will Anderson/edge...56...R Rice/WR...65... Siaki Ika/DT...101...Devan Weatherspoon/CB

The weaknesses are OL, DL and WR.          OL  Pocic and Jenkins will address our line. If Leatherwood proves to be worthy at RT, Jenkins can play LG and then we get rid of Whitehair. If                                                                                 Whitehair stays then E. Jenkins plays RT.

                                                                            OL  B. Jones/ E. Jenkins/ Pocic/ Jenkins/ Leatherwood.

    WR  Mooney/ Claypool/ Harry/ Pringle/ Pettis/V Jones/ Rashed Rice (Rookie)

DL   Payne-Watts-J Jones- Siaki Ika (rookie) Ika was there at 65 range and is a monster at 6-4 350. He is compared to Jordon Davis (6-6 340) a high level rookie

    Edge... Anderson/ Davenport/ Robinson/Gipson.

I added another TE weapon in Austn Hooper and another CB in the mix on the D backfield.

I agree with Stinger here. Making Elgton Jenkins your #2 priority behind Payne makes so much sense. Jenkins versatility is huge for all the question marks behind the bears OL.

Even if Jones shows up stronger, and Leatherwood proves to be the real deal, Jenkins has played center as well. He's probably gonna get paid like a tackle, but who cares. Now let's say Patrick comes back healthy and looks really good...Well, Jenkins can play LG and you can release Whitehair. White-haired define isn't bad, but Jenkins is an upgrade and there's no shame in upgrading the position while moving on from a guy who is getting a little on the "Old side."

At the end of the day you put the best 5 out there, and I'd guarantee Jenkins would be one of those 5....somewhere.

In theory yes, but I can't remember the last time supply was greater than demand.

    That's a good question.

Houston for sure, but they're somewhat irrelevant.  They have 2 top 15 picks. Their 2nd pick from Cleveland is currently 13th. It'd be pretty crazy if they fell in love with Will Anderson and a QB and decided to jump back up to 2. I think pick 15 is where I start saying no dice.

Indy absolutely should be drafting a QB. Their 1 year retread run has got to end.

Atlanta should be looking to upgrade from Mariotta. He's not bad bad, but he's not someone who's gonna take you anywhere.

Carolina? PJ Walker and Sam Darnold probably ain't it.

Pittsburgh? I think they SHOULD draft one, but I wouldn't be surprised if they wanna give Pickett a 2nd year.

Detroit and Seattle are interesting. Goff has been able to put up a lot of points there in Detroit bit is he really a franchise QB? Is Geno Smith a flash in the pan?

Raiders could be a wild card. I'm a Carr fan and I don't think they should move on, bit he's been highly disappointing this year given the fact they added Adams for him.

Do you drop even further and talk with teams like Washington,  Tampa, and the Jets?

Several of the FAgents he signed this yr that are signed next yr have cheap  buyouts. I think anyone he is unsure about, they will arrange the contracts to have an easy out .

My wishes are Payne/DT--Pocic/OC and Yannick Ngakoue /DE for the big contracts.

Payne is a stud, 8.5 sacks this yr

Pocic he has had no penalties  and only given up one sack this yr. overall 83 Rating on PFF.

Ngakoue has had at least 8 sacks in every yr but the two he had injuries. For having 8 seasons, he will still only be 28 next yr. Also over 30 pressures so far this yr.

I can certainly get behind that, though I wish there was a more well rounded DE on the market. Ngakoue can get after the passer but he sucks against the run. He's kind of a poor man's Robert Quinn. Davenport can be good but he's hurt far too often for me.

The RT market looks pretty good too, and from all the reports I've read, the center draft class looks really good and you can probably get a starter in the 3rd.

Hargraves isn't bad either - he's older, but still very good and therefor you may be able to get him on a bit less crazy of a contract. That said - I got to imagine Eagles make a play to keep him, especially given how good they are. Payne seems like a good bet to be on the market and he is going to get massively outpaid - but he still is a really good player at a major position of need.

I'm hoping they just front load the crap out of any deal for a guy like him. That way he's getting paid paid but when it comes time to pay Justin, it's gonna be a lot easier to do.

In the 2021 draft there are GMs that took Zack Wilson, Troy Lance, and Mac Jones. Dont know anything about the QBs this yr but those are 3 they thought would be stars and I would say none of them have shown that yet. There is still time, but I would think Poles goes with what is a better prospect that is on his team right now.

He could trade back farther and still get the top OL and WR on the board, but hope he goes for the top 2 players in the draft plus gets some extra picks.

I wouldn't totally hate this, especially if there's an absolute haul to be had.

I'd especially love to get picks back this year. I doubt Pittsburgh gives up on Pickett(They should) but if they wanna trade up in the 1st and give us our 2nd plus their 2nd, I'd sign up for that all day. It's gonna be Justin's 3rd year and I think these next 2 years they need to be all in before his contract gets silly. 3 top 40 picks to move down a few spots would be really nice. You'd also hope to get 2 more starters with the Baltimore pick and your high 3rd rounder. That's 5 top 65ish picks and 125 mill in cap space.

Actually leading the NFL in solo tackles since Week 9.  Interesting discussion here among former players and HC.

I think, at the very least, he's your SAM next year, and there's certainly an argument to be made for him to be looked at for more. I know the bears have a ton of money and a full arsenal of draft picks, but there's gonna be some hold overs and I think Jack has been earning a role.

Gipson had one monster game, against GB, with 2 sacks, 2 TFL, 3 QB Hits.

In the other 9 games, he has been basically a low end rotational guy: 0 sacks, 1 TFL, 5 QB Hits

I'm certainly not saying he's good, but I would absolutely bring him back. I think he can be a solid 3rd DE and I wouldn't HATE if he was starting. To me he's their best DE. Dom flashed really early and I think it got our hopes up. He still has potential for sure, but I'd prefer he be 4th on the depth charts.

In that GB game, Quinn was still garnering a lot of attention so Gipson was able to do more. If you start adding guys like Payne and a good DE, it's gonna make things a lot easier for guys like Gipson, Jones, and Dom.

I'd like them to do more, but if they added Payne(who is an absolute must to me if he hits the market) and Will Anderson in the draft, I'd be happy.

I'd absolutely try and do that indy trade to bring in Buckner, but I doubt something like that would happen.

I wouldn’t even consider signing him again, he and Goldman could start a club for players who played lights out in the year before their contract is due and then absolutely dogging it until their next contract is coming up.  Please rewind back to the last two years before falling in love with this pretender

...Except he's under contract for another 2 and a half years. Soooooo....

  13. I really think it's all about fit with him. He's in a scheme that fits what he does well and he's playing next to the type of player that allows him to be a legit "Free" safety. He's only gonna get better when the rest of the secondary gets better as well. Vidor stinks and Gordon is going through some growing pains. To me, he's a keeper. I think you keep your core 4 together in the secondary for a few more years.

I'm in agreement on Jaylen.   I'm expecting we'll have a top 15 pick maybe as high as 10.  Players I like there are DT Bresee, DE Foskey, OTs Broderick Jones, Jaelyn Duncan, and possibly Skoronski (he looks slow to me).  Preference is for one of the defensive players but Fields is the future and that starts now.

I believe Braxton Jones can fix his issues with bull rushes with an offseason to focus on his technique.  At RT I don't think Borom is the answer.  He's either our swing OT or needs to move inside.   Leatherwood is still a question mark at OT and if not there, is he an OG?  Ideally we find a way to get these guys (Leatherwood, Carter, Eiselen) some reps by the end of the season so we can have some idea what we have on the Oline.   While I see options inside we have nothing at RT beyond hoping it's Leatherwood.

RT could be something we address in FA if a good option is there.  Whitehair might be the veteran leader today but it's entirely possible we move on from him in favor of the younger OGs.  In that case adding a vet presence to the line would be helpful IMO.   If Elgton Jenkins hits the market that would appear to be the best solution.  Market value is forecasted to be $14mil/yr, we could get back $10mil of that cap hit by making Whitehair a post Jun 1st cut.

I'm with you on Braxton, I think he gets another year with heavy focus on strength training in the offseason.  RT, if he hits the market, I want Conklin. I'd be fine with Jenkins but I want the best player available and to me thats Conklin.

Ours Jenkins has obviously solved RG. I wanna see how Whitehair plays the rest of the season before I commit to him. The Bears won't be pinching pennies by any means, but if someone lines up at guard as BPA in the draft I could get behind just cutting ties.

To me, the large focus in free agency should be on the lines.

A Warren Sapp would make the cover 2 run.

The trenches on both sides need a serious work done. There's just no pass rush at all. I think the DL needs 4 new starters. Jones and Dom can be rotation pieces at DT and DE respectively.

Daron Payne is my #1 target in the offseason.

  16. 10 hours ago, ASHKUM BEAR said:

Regardless of how well Poles may be able to ID talent, the Bears can use the value of a top 3-5 pick.  That slot could net them the ability to gain numerous additional picks for years.

Trade down from 4 to 15 and gain a future 1st. The team they traded with will not win many games with a rookie QB so next year they have another top 10 pick from that trade and they can move down again and again year after year.

If that's available to them, I'd definitely be open to it, but man, if you can get a guy like Jalen Carter who solves your 3T for the next 5+ years, I think long and hard about staying put too. They need an impact player on that defense.

  17. On 11/7/2022 at 7:01 AM, Stinger226 said:

Where ever we draft that will be fine. If you can identify talent, 5 to 10 slots worse will still get you a good player.

You should get good players anywhere in the 1st round....but it's more likely you get a great player the higher up you are.

I'd love to lose every game 42-35 or something like that where the offense is clearly balling out and ready to contend.

  18. It's gonna be interesting to see what they think of Patrick going in to next season. I'm still not sure what to think of him as a center. Hopefully the foot thing is a non issue and he can come right back and show us what he has for 10 games.

RT is definitely in need of an upgrade unless they figure out Leatherwood which would be nice. Jenkins and a figured out Leatherwood on the right side could be nastyyyyy if they live up to their pre draft expectations.

  19. My hopes is Orlando Brown hits free agency and the Bears make him an offer he can't refuse then they get the WR from Ohio State in the 1st round. Right now Olave and Garrett Wilson, the 2 Ohio state WRs drafted this year are both in the top 25 in receiving yards in the NFL so when it comes to WRs OSU is doing something right.

A 3T is definitely needed but the Bears HAVE to do something to really see if Fields is their guy.

I would even look into trading for Galloday and using a 2nd or 3rd rounder on a TE as well.

I can live with another shit year defensively if it meant they know what they have in Fields.

  20. 11 hours ago, adam said:

From what I have read, they were taking Mooney and Kmet out, which forced Fields into his 2nd or 3rd reads. They didn't double them, just had the Safety shading towards them. On the long ball, it just looked like Mooney gave up on it when he knew it was well over his head. Also, Fields needed to throw it to his side, the Safety had a better angle over the top. Fields needed to lead Mooney away from the Safety.

I am not too concerned, he was basically the WR1 last year for most of the year. I just think Getsy is trying too many long developing plays instead of quick slants and other quick hitters.

To me it is the entire offense still getting used to the new system with live ammo. It feels like Getsy has also been fairly conservative with Fields to this point. At some point you have to just let him play football. From the presser, Fields stated that he runs the plays that he is given, which seems to be he doesn't have much flexibility to audible at the line. That needs to change.

If he doesn't have at least 5-6 catches and 8-9 targets against Houston, then I will be concerned.

I'm not sure if it's Getsy being conservative or if it's Fields. I think they are giving Fields a lot of RPOs and Fields is making the decision to hand it off instead of throwing the ball. If that is the case, Getsy may have to dial down the RPOs a bit and force Fields to throw the ball more and get him a little more comfortable.
