I've lost it...we really are ran by a bunch of clowns

Arians has told friends that a couple of things about his interview with the Bears bothered him. For one, he was asked to do a mock news conference in the course of his interview. Apparently it wasn't enough that he was the reigning coach of the year after taking over the Colts and had been doing news conferences all year.

That is absurd and just ridiculous.

The other thing was the team's insistence that Rod Marinelli remain as defensive coordinator. Arians wasn't against that idea, he just didn't see how Marinelli was going to remain given his close friendship with Smith. When he opted out rather than stay under Trestman it highlighted just how out of touch the team was with its coaching staff.

Again, Arians had an actual clue (as did the other top candidates) of reality where the Bears clearly didn't and they ended up hiring the one coach, desperate enough for a position, and out of touch of the reality that was the friendship between Rod and Lovie. The fact that Emery and others were so surprised just tells you how out of touch they were with the reality of the situation. Again, I say, a bunch of clowns, and for those that know my posting history, I'd like to think I'm pretty even keel by and large (with exception to Tucker and Joey D who I've consistently bashed since midway through last year and for good reason).

Wow...

I really wanted Arians. Trusted management the'd make the right decision. Damn, suckered again.

I was an Arians supporter too. Living just outside of Indy, I saw enough of him to know he would be a good HC. Plus, it doesn't hurt that your brother in law works for Colts, so I had additional insight. I'm still hopeful Trestman can right the ship. His methods may take some time for full culture change. If I don't see improvement and desire after the bye, my opinion will change.

Now we know where the Bears get their bad rap from in terms of upper management. They are all weird.

I'm embarrassed.

I was a McCoy guy and less so Arians because I didn't like the way he got Andrew Luck killed with poor offensive line play, and felt like his offense was too similar to Mike Martz, but I did acknowledge that the guy can coach. The record speaks for itself.

With both McCoy and Arians...are we simply looking at guys that got lucky with the talent around them? Luck...Manning?

Who knows...

They both are doing better with QB's that should be worse than Cutler in theory.

I believe there was some hesitation about Arians due to age and health. Sucks that we essentially had Trestman first when we had the pick of the litter.

Before interviewing any Coaches you would think they would have talked to Marrinelli. Asking him if he would stay on as a D coach may have been some useful info.

Absolutely. It is kind of crazy that they didn't. Now maybe Rod didn't give any indication but Rod is a pretty upstanding guy so I'm fairly certain he would have said, most likely I will be moving on or something along those lines.

I like Emery and Trestman. The team is in the middle of a major transition and massive rebuilding.

Name an impact player that was not 30 or nearing 30 when Emery took over as GM.

Years of bad drafting have left the Bears barren on offense and defense. In the 2 years since Emery has been here, new starters seen at at 8 positions(all but Cutler, Forte and Garza) on offense and and 8 on defense (Briggs, Tillman, and Jennings) going into this year.

All of the players retained as starters will need replaced sooner than later due to injuries, age, or lack of talent.

I think Emery has done a respectable job trying to field a team. A lot of heat is thrown on the McClellin pick, but the Bears got a type flight WR in Jeffery that year too. Lovie obviously would have input in that draft and Angelo's scouts that never produced a good draft.

I don't think any of the line backers on the team will be starters in the next few years, but there there are very solid back ups. Angelo and Lovie left this team with no foundation for the future, and I still feel Trestman is hampered by Cutler on offense.

In all, I think the team is in a much better position than they would have been if Angelo and Lovie ran the last 3 drafts and free agency.

Arians would suck with what was left on this team too.

Very good article below with commentary from an ex front office guy and Cowher. Insights have a lot to do with massive issues on roster construction and they blast our oline as well.

In summary, Bears problem has more to do with the fact that our defense and special teams are putrid and the personel moves have been bad. We missed the boat on most of our FA signings this year and even last year didn't get the impacts we expected. We also seemed to miss the boat in the evaluation of guys we brought back / opted not to replace (e.g., any of our linebackers). Those things can't be excused.

Again, I am coming more and more to the conclusion that we have the wrong people running the show and need a total overhaul. Pay the money to bring in proven football people and let them run this franchise.

Thanks for sharing.

I too am coming up with that conclusion. Circumstances could change with the 2nd half of the season. But as it stands, and assuming more of the same. It's an easy conclusion to come up with.

I'm not really sour on Emery yet. Think his first draft was darn close to a bust though. One player doesn't do it for me. But his FA picks have made sense even if they didn't all pan out.

My biggest reservations at this point are on Trestman. And since Emery hired him, we'll have to see what happens. They're married as far as I'm concerned.

All in all I like Emery, a whole heck of a lot more then JA. When he hired Trestman, at first my reaction was WHO THE F$%K is this asshole. Then I read about him, liked what he did with Gannon, figured if he could work wonders with him why not Cutler.

Then I saw that he won 2 out of 5 Canandian Cups and thought hey.... if he won in Canada then why not the NFL.

Big mistake was thinking if he won in Canada then why not in the NFL.....The NFL has the best of the best. It looks like he is being out coached in the NFL this year.

IF Emery went to Trestman and said is Cutler the guy and Trestman said YES then Ill hold Cutler to Trestman and not so much Emery. It doesn't mean Emery is off the hook entirely with Cutler tho.

I still hope Cutler can take the final step in the process of becoming a top 5 QB. I think he is close but he has some work to do.

Who knows the Pack had to win 7 straight in 2010 to get into the playoffs. We all know how that ended.

With the Talent the Bears have on O I can see them getting on a hot streak and win some games. We do have a lot of home games coming even tho the Home games so far have not panned out to well so far.
