December 4, 201510 yr comment_153151 The coaching all around - except ST - has been undeniably improved. With great coaching, low round picks look like high round picks. I believe that's what's happening. I'm reminded of the great Bear Bryant speech below: Your being reminded, reminded me of the great orator John Madden and how he discussed effort, "loads", biscuits and other fun Maddenisms. Report

Yeah, except that has virtually zero bearing on the topic of discussion. The Bear Bryant video is him talking about taking lesser guys who try their maximum and beating guys who are more talented yet don't give their full effort, which is directly related to the OL and QB performances on the Bears this year. December 4, 201510 yr comment_153164 Kind of replying in general... The OL is the key to the offense. I've always said it, and it will always be true. It doesn't matter what QB or skill players you have if the OL sucks. That is fact. For the Bears, their hasn't been a huge influx of talent. I've never said a line full of 1st rounders was necessary, but since every coach and front office the Bears have had in the last 20 years has either coached it poorly, drafted it poorly, or both, it's something I felt was necessary. I still feel like the OL has to be drafted early and often to improve the team. Regarding Cutler, it's said up above, but he's had to move around a lot this year. He's done a great job with that because I suspect he understands, trusts, knows the offense better. Speaking of that... The coaching all around - except ST - has been undeniably improved. With great coaching, low round picks look like high round picks. I believe that's what's happening. I'm reminded of the great Bear Bryant speech below: I was talking to a friend about this the other day, but I think it take a few more variables, something like: (talent x effort x scheme & coaching + teammates) = performance which can be weighted with (length of time in same scheme or under same coaches) So you can be extremely talented but lack effort and you won't be very good. You can have a lot of talent and have good effort, but are in the wrong scheme and you will be inconsistent. You could have everything, but be on bad team. For Cutler, for the first time, it seems like everything is in place. The previous inconsistencies and erratic performances were due to his attempt to overcompensate with his own talent, which could only be increased so much to overcome deficiencies in other areas (bad teammates, bad O-Line, horrible defense, brutal coaches, etc). I was kinda more pulling your chain than anything. In fact when I watched the video, I couldn't help but think of how in NFL Madden you would find players given certain numerical player ratings. Similar to how Bryant was illustrating in his video. Yet if facing a higher rated player during a game, and with the right 'X' 'Y' buttons and a properly timed 'truck' move my 65 rated RB could outmaneuver their 85 rated LB. Similar analogy no? That's how I started to reminisce about Madden. Report

December 18, 201510 yr comment_153567 I just saw a stat that Cutler has yet to have a multi-INT game this season and has now gone 13 games with 0-1 INTs (dating back to the last game in 2014), the longest stretch of his career. His longest stretch previously was 7 in Denver (2008), and 6 in Chicago (2012). Report
