Rappaport: Bears have hired consultant to evaluate all of Bears operations

Initial reports indicate that the Bears have hired an outside consultant to evaluate the franchise due to them being extremely unhappy (essentially looking into everything). Not a lot of substance behind who / what / why they hired. Many seem to think Fox and maybe even Pace are truly on the hot seat (presumably everyone would be if this is truly a full organizational review.

That said, Hub is speculating that the consultant is more looking at things from a valuation perspective as the family might be getting ready to sell the franchise.

Supposedly the particular eye was on that of Fox, which could make some of the reports that Pace never wanted Fox to begin with (and they don't see all that eye to eye) as being accurate. Remember, lots of reports that Pace wanted Bowles. No idea how much Fox was forced cause it would have been Fox was a 1B vs. 1A, so while Pace preferred one, if everyone else was on the other side, he might have said, okay lets go.

My view is, you can't ever succeed in rebuilding if you don't have the patience to actually go through a rebuild. If we change every few years, we'll never build anything anyway (cause you'll never have enough time to see if you have a Picasso or a piece of crap).

this sounds familiar. hire a freaking GM and override the most important decision he can possibly make right out of the gate. guess they didn't learn when they forced emmery to keep lovie.

course i find it hard to believe the mccasky family can learn anything after drinking water that probably ran through lead water pipes in their family mansion their entire lives. after all, it would cost money to replace lead pipes with that new-fangled copper stuff.

'supposedly' this was not a football operations evaluation according to hub arkush on the score this morning.

if true that puts to rest the hot seat rumors for that side of the franchise for now. if this is true it's a PR nightmare created by themselves by not making a statement to the press SAYING it was not a football operations evaluation after the rumors in the media took flight. whether they wanted to keep under wraps the content of the consultation would have been easy with a no comment after assuring the press it had nothing to do with pace or fox.

it just makes you wonder how detached the owners are from reality that they didn't even see that firestorm coming and show a vote of confidence to their F.O. staff.

Fox outrighted denied it after the game (not really sure why he would be the person who would comment on it though). The top of the organization should have immediately came out (as you mentioned). I presume they are being coy because it has more to do with their longer term ownership interest / plans (especially how they hold the team / manage through estate tax, etc).

The evaluation was for the business end of the team operation only..
