Gordon extended

Featured Replies

A no brainer just got done. It seems that Poles is making the right choices all the time.

Let Jenkins leave

Resign Gordon

Let Allen leave

Is it just my perception or does Poles prefer to go with a higher guarantee and a lower AAV on his recent deals?   I can't really say that with Gordon since he's now the highest paid NB in the league but $13.3/yr seems reasonable.

now that there's a separate thread, I'll cut and paste this here from the other one.

good! He's an impact player, and it's not THAT much money. Has anyone ever heard that term "slot corner" before rather than "nickel back"? Maybe it's schefter's way of saying the deal transcends nickels, and recognizes him as a corner.

Because Gordon's $13.3M a year is nowhere near

HOU Derek Stingley Jr $30M/yr
CAR Jaycee Horn $25M/yr
MIA Jalen Ramsey $24.1M
DEN Patrick Surtain $24M/yr
MIN Byron Murphy $22M/yr
GB Jaire Alexander $21M/yr
ATL AJ Terrell $20.25M/yr
CLE Denzel Ward $20.1M/yr
NE Carlton Davis $20M/yr
BAL Marlon Humphrey $19.5M/yr

In March of last year, Jaylon Johnson signed a 4 year $76M contract ($19M/yr)

Poles signing look like big contracts and then 1 yr later they look like bargains. Say what you want about player evaluations but he is managing the cap well.

Pretty comparable to the Jalen Pitre deal from a few days ago. Even though he’s technically a safety he functions pretty similar to Gordon in their defense.

For sure. He's done a great job being disciplined and using that wasted year to a long term sustainable outcome, rather than blowing it all early. I think the staff is gonna help a lot with player evaluations, and Poles can be the cap / money / future guy. Perfect.

Another thing I like about the signing, it goes thru Caleb's 5th year option year. So technically the entire extension is on a rookie QBs deal window. They can assess his value again with the new cap availability in 2027-2028 after the Bears have won a Super Bowl.

I would like to lock down Edwards at LB too, they need continuity at all levels.

I'll have to look back at all the contracts, aren't they aligned with the Caleb time line?
