Bears journalists push any noise they here. I have seen many say he needs to address the book release information during the OTAs? He's learning the new offense now, do it when book comes out , screw what the media wants. Nothing in the book matters. He choose here despite the Bears pathetic past. The coaches are gone so why would anyone think that was good for him. The only reason  the story lives is because the media keeps bringing it up/

see THIS I totally agree with!

Narratives! They create clicks, but they dont mean anything.

Now it is clear that Caleb has a lot of developing to do. For example, Ben Johnson has changed his footwork. GOOD. He will also have to grow reading defenses and making quick decisive reads. But that's not a problem or a negative, it's right on time for a young QB who just started with his first pro mentor.

Caleb is neither perfect nor a bust. He's just a guy with insane amounts of talent, who seems to be working very hard to get better. And I, for one, would not bet against him right now.

Cant wait for the season to start so we can see whats working and what needs fixing. It sure looks good on paper. Can't wait to see it on grass.

Flus went on a Podcast recently and answered some questions related to this story. People seem to be crossing streams. Caleb never said he wasn't coach, or that they never watched film together.

I still think this is a non-story that the media tried to make a thing in support of the book coming out.

However, Cowherd did have a good nugget of info that I forgot about, that Flus was 0-18 on the road on Sundays as a HC. I double checked and he is correct. Flus had a win on MNF in 22 as his only road win, then doubled that to 2 road wins in 2023, but one was on TNF and the other MNF. Then he had zero road wins last year, and the Bears actually got a Sunday road win in Week 18 in GB, but Flus was long gone when that happened lol.

Yeah Flus sucks!

Something that's also lost in all this is that apparently it was Caleb's Dad who told the ESPN writer that Caleb told him that - thats a 3 man chain of telephone now. Who knows exactly what the nature of Caleb's complaint was?

One thing we can be sure of is that the Bears offensive staff SUCKED at preparing the team, so whatever it is that Caleb actually said to his dad, it was probably true.

Yeah, JSN warned us during his CHGO interview. That was a red flag then and still is today for Waldron.

Now it seems like every position group is finally being coached right. I still find it wild that Eric Bieniemy is the RB Coach, Randle El the WR Coach, and Al Harris is the DB coach all the while having Dennis Allen as the DC and Ben Johnson as the HC/Play Caller. It doesn't feel real. We have been so beaten down by always getting the wrong HC, or a bad OC, etc, etc.

there is no doubt this roster and staff are VERY different from what we've seen before. There are lots of reasons for optimism. I am very much looking forward to seeing it on the field. I do expect great things, but there have been teams that had a lot of talent before that just didn't gel, so there's a reason they play the games, it's not won during the offseason.

But if I had to bet, i would bet that the bears will be significantly improved, and the window should open for Caleb to lead us deep into the playoffs and hopefully a championship in the coming years.

I am very excited for this coming year, and it sure feels like we are on the right path!

I do think we still need a dominant pass rusher, so that will probably limit how far we can go against the really good teams. I wonder about our RB room, and while I have hope, i worry about LT too. Im VERY much looking forward to seeing how the LTs look in pads. If Trapilo (or any of them) ascends to become not just serviceable but actually GOOD, then that will help a lot.

There are certainly more reasons for hope than we've had in a quite a while.

And like you said here - the coaching staff looks to be elite. That is amazing, and should help all the players ont he roster reach their best potential.

Dont forget Dan Roushar - he's gonna make that OL better too - including Trapilo and Wright!

I think we are over estimating the DE need for Dennis Allen's defenses. The most sacks a DE has had for his defense is 8.5.  He had Cam Jordan 2022 and Carl Granderson 2023 rack up 8.5.  Id bet if we polled how many sacks Montez Sweat gets, everyone picks more than 8.5.

I think it will have to be collective with the Dline to provide pressure and get to the QB. They brought in Jarrett who i can see being a comeback player of the year and Dayo who's improved year to year.  If Booker doesn't take a step, a higher talent will probably be a priority in next draft to develop.

Interesting. I cant really say i know anything about DA's defense other than that it is aggressive and he has presided over several highly ranked defenses. Oh and I know he likes his DEs a little heavier to set the edge so LBers flow. ANd i suppose that if you like bigger DEs, then youre not expecting as much speed rush from those DEs.

Interesting, thank you for that.

I just dug into it to see who he had and numbers.   His average DE weight for his career was 268.  Ill have to check average height (6'4").  He seems to get great production from a LB too.  I think it might be why he'd like to move Edmund to Will. He moves a little better than Edward's.  Hypolite might end up being a hit with his speed too.

If we can stay healthy, this might be one of the best defenses in the league. If they can force punts, caleb has more opportunities to rack up numbers. On paper it seems legit, Caleb being the biggest factor.

yes, and this is all gonna be predicated on being able to run the football too. The OL seems like it's gonna be OK, now who is gonna get those tough yards?

In DAs best yrs with NO as a DC, he had top 10 team in sacks but never led the league. He likes blitzing LBers and SC. He was  Lovie like because they generated Ints and fumbles. He has only had one high end pass rusher that was in the teens during his good yrs. Cam Jordan was his main man. Several yrs he had between 8.5 up to 15.5 as a high. He likes to stunt the line and his defense is more about putting pressure on the offense that actually always high sack totals. His best yr in NO was 51, usually 45-50 range.

Last year we had 40 sacks so dont expect a large bumb in sacks, its more about pressure and offenses making mistakes. If we can get 10 sacks out of Sweat, we will be in line for the 45-50 range  of sacks. On paper we should be okay with putting pressure on the QB being he blitzes a lot. Hyppolite , Edmunds, Gordon, and Edwards will all contribute to the sack total. Jarrett, Dexter and Turner should add to the total.
