Joe Cullen, Marinell's defensive line coach when Marinelli was the head coach of the Detroit Lions, was spotted at Halas Hall last week and could take over the Bears' defensive line from Marinelli.

Im glad the bears think it's wise to bring the whole 0-16 lions staff over, i mean seriously how do any of them still have a job in the nfl and why are we talking to any of them

These moves were predicted on this board.

We all had a hunch that Ron would be the scapegoat, management would go the cheap route and keep Lovie, and some here speculated that Rod would be elevated to DC..... These moves scream cheap and we don't care about winning. Fire OC, keep Failing HC, promote someone already on the payroll to DC who has virtually no experience running a D, we'll likely hire someone's buddy to be OC who's never done it before (maybe even someone in house like Pep)....... Then in the off-season between 2010 and 2011 after another "disappointing" season they may do what they should have done this off-season and clean house. That's my prediction that next year at this time we'll be right back where we are now. Here's to a shitty 2010 Bears season.... I guess the fans have to be storming Halas Hall with torches and pitch forks before they see the error of their ways.

DJ had a shorter leash than this Lovie must have quite the photo album of compromising pictures. The case to fire him is stacked yet he gets another pass.

Considering that we'll likely bring in someone at OC who doesn't know his butt from a hole in the ground (not that Ron did), and I hate to say this but I'd have rather us stuck with turner than get someone with no experience... and I would bet on it that we will get someone who's never done it before at any level.

Rod Marinelli will be handcuffed and forced to run Lovies fatally flawed cover 0 defense. With Lovie as HC does it really matter who carries the DC title??? I mean really? And if it fails again next year, and it will, Rod will be the one to blame even though he's forced to run Lovie's system.

With Lovie still as head coach prepare to watch unprepared players play uninspired football until it doesn't matter anymore and it's once again "save my job time."

This organization (if you can even call it that) makes me sick. What have we as fans done to deserve a team that always sinks to the lowest common denominator. We deserve better.

Flat out makes me sick.

Turner gone was obvious and necessary, as will be the departure of most of the offensive staff. Last year it was most all the defensive assistants fired, and this year it will be the offense.

What makes me flat out sick is Marinelli being promoted to DC. I don't even think he lived up to the hype as the DL coach, and that is the area he is supposed to be some genius. Why should anyone believe he can handle the DC duties? He has never even been a DC before, has he.

I hope our offense is lights out next year, because I have a feeling out defense is only going to continue to get worse.

Me to, I'm waiting for it to come out of their mouth before I believe any of it. I in no way an advocate for Turner, but he takes the least fault IMO of JA, Lovie, and himself. The team absolutely had no offensive line or running game, yet he still got somethign out of his players.

Lovie put himself in his own noose by taking over defensive calling duties and well sucked. That's not to mention how bad he is at other areas of coaching. JA isn't Millen, but he's very, very bad. Marenelli did jack crap this year with the line, coached an 0-16 team the year before, so let's let him take over the defense. GRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have no issue w/ Turner's release. Others may be deserving (are deserving) but that doesn't touch the fact that Turner sucked also.

Even if you ignore us "arm chair QBs", many analists, former players, coaches, etc have talked about how predictable Turner's playcalling has been. I think our offense did what it did inspite of Turner far more than to his credit. Turner deserved to be fired, regardless of who else stays and goes.

I am not thrilled by our keeping Lovie, but that was at least expected to some extent. What really disgusts me though is promoting Marinelli. Sorry, but he did nothing to warrant a promotion. Further, he doesn't have experience as a DC. He went from DL coach to HC, and back to DL coach. His elevation to DC reminds me way too much of when Lovie promoted Babich.

I expected to keep Lovie, while firing most all of the offense. Of all the aspects I had hope for was that Angelo would force Lovie to add a DC who was not part of his inner circle, much the same way as when we hired Rivera, despite Lovie wanting someone else (I believe Babich). While Lovie would still be the HC and you know he would want his defense, at the same time, we saw that a DC like Rivera, someone who wasn't a cover two specialist, can tweak the D enough to maintain the cover two image, while also adapting it to be more effective.

So of all the things announces so far that makes me sick, Marinelli's promotion is the one that makes me the most disgusted.

It is sad when Angelo stated that the money issue would not be an issue and what has happened so far clearly indicates that money is definitely and issue. Turner definitely needed to get the hell out of town and he is not the only one. Unfortunately Papa Bear continues to spin out of control in his grave with the way his daughter is running his team. Major changes needed to be made and I am interested to hear the B.S. that will be spewed at 2:00 pm at the Bears press conference. No matter what is said, what the McCaskey is failing this team, this City and the football World in their acceptance of mediocrity. The only bright side is that after the fourth consecutive failure under Smith is that it appears that Cowher will still be available to take over this team come January 2011 which is roughly twelve months later than it should be. With Cowher the Bears would be showing everyone that they do mean business and will do what ever they are able to in order to become respectable once again. I'll go out on a limb and say that at this point the best we are able to expect is probably a record of maybe 7-9 and possibly even worse. This is another Red Letter Day in mediocrity by the McCaskey family and their hand picked lackeys for this franchise. Sad day in Chitown and Suburbia.

Let me preface my statement by saying I was hoping for a house cleaning. That being said, what guarentee do we have that, if Cowher is hired next yr, we would be a better football team or win a Superbowl? We have none. No Superbowl winning coach has gone to another team and won a Superbowl. Look at he disaster that Parcells was in Dallas. My point, don't hang your hat on hiring Cowher as the end all, cure all.

Peace :dabears

Oh trust me, I have no problem with Turner's release. I just think Lovie was a worse DC, HC, and so on and so on.

Dan Hampton said something the other night that gave me hope that more would happen. Virginia McCaskey turned 87 today. He said somethin to the extent of maybe, just maybe, she wants to see her Dad's team succeed one last time in her life. That she may not care about the money, and she may have wanted what is best for the team. The Cutler deal, money they've spent on players and other things made that statement make sense to me. That idea gave me hope that maybe, just maybe they were ready to break out the wallets and give us something to cheer for, instead of much of the same.

Do you think the people in charge with the Bears now will win a super bowl?

Cower is not the end all cure all, but with him you just don't get him as head coach. He has people in line from a team that has been competitive for years for the front office, assistant coaches and so on which no doubt would be an improvement over this team in each area.
