I guess this still a philosophical issue. WTF is Cutler supposed to do when he drops back, plants his back foot, and the first read is covered? Just throwing it away is intentional grounding. And he sure as hell doesn't have time to get to the second read. The OL has to provide more time than simply "first read." Contrast Cutler's time in the pocket with Newton's. There have been several plays where Newton is just hanging out, waiting for the 3rd or 4th read. Cutler never has that opportunity.

The only sack I give completely to Cutler right now is the one on the screen. In that situation the QB can get away with a brutally underthrown ball as long as it's near the receiver's feet. He should have just gunned that into the ground a few yards forward.

For the record, this first half underscores several things we already knew:

-The OL can't pass-block for very long

-Cutler makes poor decisions under pressure

-Cutler has a man-crush on Marshall

-Forte is much better at finding and exploiting holes than Bush

-Spaeth couldn't catch a cold

-The receivers don't appear to get open quick enough for most of play-calling

-Steve Smith owns Lovie Smith defenses

Nothing on offense is working. The offensive line can't block, the quarterback can't throw, the receivers can't catch.

It might be jonathon scott time, but the question is, which side?

Also, what is Kellen Winslow up to these days? I know it would not happen but how is he not instantly better than any TE on the Bears right now?

This is why, like mock drafts, power rankings are a total and complete waste of time.

Jay sucks under pressure (wait until they replay that little verbal tirade as he was leaving the field, should really be appreciated in Chicago)

Yes there are other receivers other than Marshall in Chicago.

Both tackles (one 1st rounder and one 7th rounder suck)

The defense, as is usually the case, has to carry the load. Thank you Wright, Jennings, Urlacher, Briggs, Peppers, Tillman and Collins for coming to play today and keeping the team in the game.

And a shout to Forte for being the only guy on Offense for even trying.

How many games over the last few years have we had to watch like this? How many times does it look like Cutler is going to die in the first half because of the pressure? How often do we have to see him drop back and half roughly half a second to throw before getting maimed? How many games in the past few years has the story line been: "OL completely falls apart, almost gets Cutler killed, and turns him into David Carr"?

And when is something serious going to be done about it?

With the way the DL has played this year, and with the minimal impact McClellin has had, it's pretty clear that DE/DL was not a great priority. There are only so many years for the Bears to enjoy the physical abilities of a franchise QB. How long will he be sacrificed? How long will the quickly closing window on this defense be wasted?

That was a total crap call there was no helmet to helmet. If anything Lefell ran into Conte... what the hell is Conte supposed to do stop momentum in mid air and somehow avoid contact???

Bears are playing like crap but there is a lot holding not getting called. The zebras giving the panthers all the breaks. We're lucky we're still in this game, cutler with two fumbles and a pick.... we've had some sucess running the ball but we keep throwing. We don't deserve to win today unless we can turn it around we'll lose a game we shouldn't have lost.

Even as an official, I agree. It's a nearly impossible situation for Conte, yet, that's what is being pushed down from the higher levels of officiating.

And that's why Devin Hester is not a WR. He'll make a flash play every once in a while, but those are few and far between. Keep him as a return specialist, you can just scratch out his plays on offense.

We had the best return specialist in the history of the game and we have essentially ruined him.. Well done Bears

we can't tackle, can't defend, can't throw, can't catch, can't take advantage of great field position we are getting our ass handed to us and we deserve it... The Bears did not come to play at all today... very disappointing. Announcers wondering why Carolina continues to kick like they have why not we haven't shown any ability to make them pay.
