Forget that idea. Cap hit is $1.9M if he's on roster. If cut cap hit is $2.8M. The more I look at his deal its possible he could be cut after 2013 but he probably plays out deal

He was looking good in year one before the injury. It has taken time to recover. He did not play well last year but I doubt he was anywhere near 100%. I think I would need to see him more before I would write him off. I certainly would not even begin to think of cutting him.

Yeah, it takes time to recover, but if the Bears bring 2 more guards in as free agents, and then especially if they draft one, then someone is going to be the odd person out, and as of right now, that would be Carimi, as he was the worst of the linemen in question last year.

 

If they have confidence in him and that his problem was strictly the injury last year, they won't bring in 2+ extra guards, because he and Webb will make up the right side of that line next year.

Agreed. The idea of cutting Carimi after one year of play is just ridiculous. You just don't dump first rounders like that. There is a reason he was a first rounder. Let his talents develop and blossom for the Bears instead of elsewhere. On top of the injury he probably also had a little difficulty adjusting to the move to the right side, since he played on the left side since he was 12 or 13.

The opinion is not universal. I'd argue that overall Garza was just as bad, and Webb was damn close. Both Webb and Garza were below average in all facets of the game, with highs and lows spread throughout, but Carimi was downright dominant in run-blocking. His pass-blocking was just horrible is all. If you average out the performance entirely, I don't see why Carimi is not "rated" as somewhere around average, or at least comparable to Garza and Webb, neither of which had truly dominating performances last year.

This is what I'm thinking because without reps at OG he looked okay when pressed into service. I just want to sit back and let this new staff see how they want to attack this.

I think if they resign both of them, that is a really good sign they have no confidence in Carimi.

If we sign Scott, IMO we start Carimi at guard. Emery said he liked Carimi's versatility, meaning his ability to play inside. Last season Scott and Webb were both better at tackle than Carimi. I don't think we plan on carrying 4 tackles on the roster, especially when we have no guards. If we sign Lance Louis, there's no guarantee he'll be ready by opening day. If we draft a guy early, you can't count on him to start.

If Louis is the RG, who is the LG? If Louis isn't healthy, who is the RG? We have Edwin Williams and the URFA who started a few games at guard last year. I haven't heard anything to indicate we want them competing to be a starter.

That option exists but do not figure that to be part of there plan. We will be getting a LG in the draft, and probably sign another option on the cheap. I think Brown may be in the mix, but they will give him competition.
